Nothing is known about Chocobos at this time but it should be assumed that they will be included at retail release. We have no information on the level at which they will be available or the requirements to own or ride one, since they aren't available yet.

NOPE! In fact, there won't be chocobos AT ALL. They will be replaced with tanks and other heavily armored vehicles.

Seriously though, has there ever been a Final Fantasy game where they weren't ride-able other than the first?

I hope they're treated like traditional mounts as in other MMOs rather then what they did in 11. I hated that junk.

What you mean how they worked in just about every FF with the exception of the fat chocobo?

There is a chocobo stable in the beta but I haven't messed with it. I don't think that part has been enabled.

Yeah, it hasn't been implemented yet :/ I got excited when I clicked on it, but then nothing happened.

How exactly was the chocobo system in XI "junk"?
You rode a chocobo... Like every other FF game.
If you wanted to have a personal chocobo, you could do the side quests and get your own, and a whistle to summon it to your immediate position.
Or were you looking for flaming, flying chickens?

I only played XI for a brief while. 2 or 3 years go? A little bit after the ps2 version launched for it.

I don't remember there being a personal chocobo at that point. But didn't the whole breeding chocobo thing make those ones permanent? When it came out more recently (whenever it did, just the whole breeding thing is newer)

Maybe Vack played when there wasn't a more "permanent" chocobo?

If they decide to add permanent mounts into the game, I personally hope that they keep them relatively uniform (i.e. all chocobo's/horses, with different colorings).

Nothing looks sillier to me than a party riding out on a dragon, zebra, mastodon, tiger, and spider at the same time.

I heard SWTOR lets you get your own spaceship; it wouldn't be too hard to imagine getting your own airship in FFXIV, especially considering Eorzea should be fairly huge.

This is a important thread SE please listen...

As much as taking the Chocobo taxi in 11, I would prefer to have my own mount. Yes my own. Does it have to be Chocobo? No i guess it doesn't. Ergo I should have a choice. Or perhaps mounts that you unlock. I should be able to choose colors or something. I know there was a million threads on this during XI but we are in 2010 now.... and don't flame me for saying wow, but you have to admit that system wasn't bad.

Make me pay gil for food or housing or whatever. Make it for high levels, or for end game ... but I just like the idea of owning a chocobo instead of taking a taxi for a 20 minute run and pay on a weird sliding scale of how many people took one in the last hour. That never made any sense to me.

I agree with stopping the chocobo taxi, having our own chocobos would be the best way to approach ground transportation. Of course from looking at the benchmark/trailers there'll be airships and sea ships, but I'm interested in seeing what they'll do with chocobos. For a poor high level wanderer like I was in FFXI, walking up to the chocobo stables and seeing rental for 1.5K just wasn't cutting it hahahaha

Seriously tho it's FF of course we will ride or dig with chocobos. It will be cool if what ppl are saying comes true, and the chocobos add extra storage(i,e pack type mounts.)

Most of you might flame me for this, but I think it's a valid point... The reason the 20min chocobo taxi existed (In my opinion) is it was the only way to make the mount "rare" (It really wasn't but you know what i mean..)also, I can't exactly remember cause i played long ago but the chocobo you "owned" also had a time limit, so it was really special to see a black/red/blue chocobo... Also, chocobo's are pretty much the only mount in the FF series, it has been in every FF, its like a trademark for SE.

So my point is, if you could use a chocobo at any time, for any period of time, it'd be like wow, everyone sitting around on their mounts, except, it'd only be yellow chocobo's and THAT would just be plain boring.

My 2 cents anyway.

I heard that Chocobos will be returning, but in a different way than FFXI. No idea what that means.

I think that the teleporting crystals will be how most people travel long distances quickly, but I also heard that there might be permanent effects to your character if you use it too much. The info is a bit outdated, but I haven't heard otherwise yet. Someone tell me otherwise please, because permanent damage is bit much imo.

I see that in the wiki (AKA "I know it's true; I edited Wikipedia myself!" but is there a link that indicates that PERMANENT, IRREVERSIBLE damage can occur from using an ingame feature? That just sounds unreasonably harsh to include a feature and penalize players -permanently-, -forever- for using it "too much"

I agree. Although I believe it should be a chocobo only. For simplicity sake just have a quest you can only do at whatever level and be done with it. Call it when you want and let us have a few options to change it color, size, whatever.

There are far more effective means of money sinks in games.

I think it's more talking about the fact that you regain Anima at a rate of 1 every SIX HOURS. Teleporting within your current region costs 4 Anima, and returning to your last used Aetheryte Crystal costs 2. When they say "rest is often required after several consecutive jumps," they really mean it. As in days of saving up to break even. I'm thinking it's probable there will be a more active way to recharge Anima, but for now passive regeneration is all we've got.

Maybe it'll recharge faster in release.

Yeah, I don't mind the anima recharges; I was more wondering about this whole "permanent irreversible damage" thing. Anima loss is temporary and fades with time.

I think we can all agree on if there's some sort of perma damage on our characters for teleporting too much is going above and beyond on SE's part, and not in a good way. Pulling ALL of my optimism together, the only upside I can see to making us not teleport too much is getting to travel/see Eorzea more than we would if teleporting was unlimited

Does anyone else think that in a future update, that a DOM will get the teleport ability? I understand that there are many crystals etc, but maybe they will be able to teleport to just main hubs or some such?

I just think a DOM without teleport or warp is a little pointless. Magic users are suppossed to be magical and have powers lol. I know that this possibly would undermine their current teleport system somewhat, but there is no reason both couldn't exist. It would encourage grouping more, and relieve the anima strain situation. It's a thought anyways.

I agree with you, DOMs should have warp/tele, but I don't think it would void them and make 'em pointless if they didn't, I just think we would all then have the right to take up the ol' pitchfork and torches and raid SE HQ for putting more **** on us ;)

it helped $0 for the ecomony imo

thats probably giving everyone teleporting ability to keep the bots away , same as making the crafting/gathering classes more involved that just hitting a button
