I'm a shoestring budget gamer, always have been; I've played MMOs at or near their lowest settings on systems that don't even officially meet their requirements (hooray for overclocking) for years. Because of this I'm very tolerant of sub-par visuals and jerky play in densely populated areas.

That said, like the rest of you, I've been waiting for FFXIV for a long time, and I'd like to be able to play with better than minimum effects at a decent framerate (for once!).

This is not the first time I've built a computer, so I'll spare the small details. I just wanted to run this by someone else before I go buying stuff. Here's the essence of what I have in mind:

Radeon HD 5850
single Phenom II x4 955 Black Edition
4 GB DDR3 (clock speed debatable)
7200 RPM HDD (***** solid state, I can wait a minute or two)

I'd seriously consider moving to one of those hawt i7s if necessary, maybe the 930. Also, I will be moderately overclocking, as always, so factor that in.

Based on my relatively low demands (low to middle of the road quality, reasonable framerate), think this'll suit my needs?

U have 20 dmg, u shoot 30 dmg, but if ur not RNG, u want HALF, with no time reload, so u get 10. but, BUT, u want no DRG since ur shooting, so its 30 dmg or 10?

I think that will put you in the Medium-High quality settings.

My desktop:

HD 5770 Radeon

Athlon II x4 630 2.9 GHz

4 GB RAM

(Not sure on the other things :P).

I scored 3600-4000 on Low And 2600-3000 on High. Which on Low is Medium settings with no issues. On High, Low-medium settings with some tweaking And yours beats mine in both processor and GPU.

Awesome, sounds like this will be fine, then. Thanks for the input!

I think you'll do great, especially if you OC that 955 to **** near 4 GHz.
