So far, I haven't heard any information on unlockable classes. Without a doubt, there will be more classes added at some point, but will they be available as starting classes, or unlockable like Dragoon or Summoner were for FFXI?

I've tried to track down any information about this from interviews or anything but can't find any. Is it still a mystery, or has anyone gleaned any info about this?

No doubt SE has some ideas up their sleeves for future updates and expansions! I remember reading somewhere that they were planning on adding new classes in content updates, not just expansions, which is exciting to hear.

But otherwise, SE hasn't said anything about how they plan to add new classes, but personally I enjoyed having to run around doing epic quests to unlock new jobs in FFXI!

I agree having to work to unlock new classes was great! made you actually feel like you deserved it.

There are classes yet to be added but its unknown how or when they will show up. There are 2 mage classes that referenced in the game already complete with guilds (Mystic and Arcanist), several more melee jobs (Fencer (Rapier), Sentinel (although this might just be the shield sub class), Musketeer (Gun and Bullet) and Enforcer (Mace/club wielder)) and 1 more disciple of the land (Shepard, **** this is a class referenced to in beta when you talk to disciple of the land tool NPC in Limsa Lominsa). Those classes will come out probably in the near future but not at launch. The real question is whether you can just utilize them right away or need to earn some kind of 'proficiency' for advanced classes to equip the new class items. That is anyones guess.

See I think SE kinda shot themselves in the foot here, because its so awkward for classes to be weapon based, and have unlockable quests for them. Or maybe their intentions are for it to be easy to do anything, which I'd welcome too, but I also enjoyed doing adv job quests, even if I'd had no intentions to play that class.

maybe it will be a quest to unlock a new type of weapon?
