I've just been browsing all the new stuff when I came across the little selector to sort by class. I saw all the usual staples, but additionally I saw "Assassin," "Arcanist," "Bard," "Enforcer," "Fencer(holy sh*t!)," and several others that I've never heard of. Now I know that I've read that these jobs won't be playable at launch, but what's the deal here? Is this still NDA protected? If so, why is it here? Any word on these classes and when we can expect to see/hear of them? Seeing Assassin and Fencer both gave me a massive hard-on the likes of which the world has never seen, so please forgive my excitement.

If this is still covered by NDA, admins please go ahead and lock the thread. Just trying to see what info is out there since the names are on the site. Thanks!

Edit: For those keeping, score, there are a total of 30 different classes listed in the little drag down menu. So much for the "Eorza 18."

Well there's quite a few things in iirc what you seen were debunked. Mainly because what would a staffman do? Let alone be his/her weapon choice when staffs belong to Conjurer?

Daggers also belong to Gladiators based on peoples beta experience write ups. So it's hard to say aside the confirmed what is just NPC related or placeholder.

Could be stuff that was taken out, could be stuff they plan to add in the future. Most of those hints I believe came from looking deep in to alpha/beta code.

Honestly to me it seems that 5 melee and 2 caster classes seems pretty low, and I fully expect there to be more on release or patched in shortly after. There is a reason that gladiators use Scimitars and Daggers and not just Swords, so that they can add in other sword wielding classes later (like fencer). However, some of the classes suggested I cant see being realistic, like staffmen, or assassin, whose weapon I've seen listed as "Dark Arts".

For Staffman, I could see a character in the realm of Sun Wukong. Assassin is pretty easy to imagine, with concealed blades, throwing weapons, and a few "magical" abilities thrown in, as well.

I know in the Glad forum, once a shield is equipped, you become SNT or Sentinel Rank. Maybe these other clases come from combinations of weapons/abilities?

This makes sense.

You don't become a sentinel with a shield equipped as a gladiator. Sentinel is just the name appended to your shield skill. Whether or not it becomes a class of its own later on is yet to be seen, but I doubt it will because that would mean Gladiators would basically be leveling two classes simultaneously.

gladiators get to use 2 handed swords and all sorts of swords.

when 'new' classes come in, they'll get their own weapon type. a STAFFSMAN can use STAVES, as in bamboo staves and other weapons monks use to kick ****. think ninja gaiden - the pole weapon. or pole weapons in ffxii. not polearms, just literal poles that are used like the dude in ninja turtles.

and conjruers don't use staves, they use radicals. they're just curved pieces of wood, and they have their own name.

SE could release a sword-weilding class later on. since gladiator has the basic sword types, the new sword class could have a special sword weapon class called something else, to differentiate it from a gladiator sword. much like how BLU's had their own sword type in ffxi
