Shoes that make you faster and you get your desired name immediately?

I'm jealous.

Where does it say they are anything like FFXI's hermes sandals?

Does not say anywhere they make you faster.

This is True, however we can speculate :). It said its made with light leather perfect for heralds and newsrunners. So extra running speed may be an effect of them, would make scence.

I doubt it. I would like to know because I'd reactive my FFXI if this were the case. But look at FFXI, look how insanely powerful IMS was. It enabled such amazing kiting ability. to give it away free, from the get-go... I just don't see it happening.

Don't get me wrong, as I'd love to be wrong. But who knows.

It would be incredibly foolish to think that Hermes Shoes/Sandals would have nothing to do with rapid movement.

Yep. Look at the item.

http://ffxiv.zam.com/db/item.html?ffxivitem=8080512

Now look at this:

http://ffxiv.zam.com/db/item.html?ffxivitem=8030014
http://ffxiv.zam.com/db/item.html?ffxivitem=8050205

The bonus effects appear at the bottom. On the sandals, nothing. I know they are OBVIOUSLY named after their predecessors. But no special attributes are noted. What reason would SE have to possibly not include that information?

-- Not trying to be a jerk. Just playing devils advocate. I don't want to reactivate my FFXI ID just to get shoes that look flashy.

Cant remember what IMS is/was, havent played it in a few years. I personaly think speed will be a factor with the boots though. But dosnt really say that with the link of them. Should we make a bet? lol

Increased Movement Speed :P

It just provided such an astronomical bonus to players who got any level of IMS, that to give it to so many new players would undermine its potency IMO.

I will wager that it will be one of two things

1. Flee effect with a 24 hr cooldown
2. Very slight increase in movement speed while wearing them, but armor rating and other bonuses will be poor compared to other shoes of a similar rank

Is that link legit / final? How did we get the official stats so quickly? The odds of them not having any significance with what Hermes is synonymous with -- speed -- just seems like it should be pretty low.

Anyway, I hope you're right. As I said before, I'd be jealous, heheh.

My wife is not going to stop calling me a nerd/dork when I end up receiving the right of passage document.

Reason I want to get the CE is for headstart. I also liked the idea of getting first month free, but this article leaves that out. Is that not a part of the package now?

This has already been mentioned. This is just an update on some of the items less covered, the items not mentioned are still in the CE, they were just not expanded on.

Sure you do. That's why you went out of your way to post that you've been playing for five WHOLE years and never once heard of such a term. I know exactly why you noted that, and I find it hilarious.

Here's some sources for the acronym.

I'm not too concerned about it, because SE, though it rewards loyalty, will only give the slightest of bonuses out like that. Also, given the fact that you can't switch gear while in active mode and that SE has stated that you will need to move from mob to mob unlike FFXI (generally), don't see this being put to too much use outside of town.

... those shoes remind me of the ugly pigaches I wore so much on SMN. Although since I'm not subscribed to XI anymore I guess it doesn't matter to me.

To speculate further, maybe these shoes will work similarly to the Sprinter Shoes in FFXI? Who knows. I do think that a permanent, significant increased movement speed right from the start is a bit much though.

and I don't think I will ever let anyone see my Rite of Passage... haha.

Interesting point... although I don't see the locality in downloading a free trial and registering a character 15 days before the official launch of XIV.

It's more like a bonus for people who really care about a sightly head start.

Ken

P.D. I'm reactivating my account solely for this though.

Edit: So drkmod you actually get the attention or it's only that you don't know you are out of place?

Out of place how? Defending the fact that one person not hearing of an acronym does not invalidate its existence?

I'm not doing this for any attention at all. My problem is with bsphil, and his constant attempts at pointing out things that are irrelevant. Sorry If I refuse to sit back and let people with massive ego's act like they rule the internet.

On Topic: Like I said, I hope I'm wrong. If they grant constant IMS that would be epic. I just don't see it happening. If I'm right, hopefully a few less people will rage in the long run when they find these shoes to be nothing but a fashion faux pa.

SE is notorious for hidden effects. The most random things have them, and to this day there still are items in XI that the player base just can't say if there are hidden effects because one can only test so many things.
But to illustrate my point, check out the links for the items below. We already know they have special effects, but those we know of aren't listed.
It's either there's a reason ZAM saw fit to exclude it for now, or SE chose to leave some effects hidden.

Either way, the shoes are rank 35, so it's not like you get a movement speed boost right away.

you know, 3 of those items I get by default (collector's edition, ffxiii, and I still enjoy doing things in xi) but why the heck would I want my server name as my surname. I don't want to be "Dranio Sylph", that bonus just made me go 'wtf'. That one feature I will probably opt out of(read: most definitely will). I think I get why they'd do that, and some people will probably use it.

Edit: the post above mine wasn't there when I pressed reply. would I actually HAVE to use that name if I got the shoes? thought it would be optional but dang, hope I don't have to chose both or none <,<

How much is rank 35 in the big scheme of things? Does anyone know the max rank, if there is one?

I'm just trying to get an idea of how long it would take before an average player would get to rank 35 to use the Hermes' Shoes.

I also kind of want to say that I knew from the beginning of getting FFXIV news, that their whole concept that "there will be no levels" was total BS, it looks like they just decided to call it rank instead of level now.

Most likely this:

Sprinter's Shoes
http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/wiki/Sprinter%27s_Shoes

Grants very slight quickening effect that wears upon attacking or being attacked. IMS is only good in FFXI when it doesn't wear off..

In fact I just used my Hermes's Sandals 2 days ago on Puppetmaster to solo some level 85 NM, and it made this very tough nm a joke.

Reduced Monthly Fee

XI and XIV Developer Hiromichi Tanaka had previously hinted at a reduction in the monthly fee of Final Fantasy XI and ZAM has since learned that current XI subscribers will receive a $5.95 base discount when both XI and XIV are registered to the same Square Enix Account. This discount will not apply during a free trial of either games and will only be offered to subscribers who pay by credit card. The discount will only be applied to one XI account per XIV account.

Users debating playing both games will only have until January 2011 to take advantage of the discount. If you do, your base fee for Final Fantasy XI would only be $7.00 versus $12.95!

So since I'm waiting for PS3 release am I gonna get shafted out of this discount?

Excellent find! That's just the kind of proof I was hoping for. Guess it's time to reactivate my ffxi ID.

Does this mean you'll stop trying so hard to disprove its -- as you call it -- IMS and admit I was right? ;)

Was not attempting to disprove anything. You seem to fail to see the point of devils advocate.

Well that will give me something to do starting September 1st when I reactivate my FFXI account, lol. I haven't been gone too long this time though...

I hope there's good instruction on how to do this account link though. Since IIRC FFXI = PlayOnline and FFXIV = SqEnix member account. Although the rank 35 attribute for those shoes is a bit steep meaning it'll be a good while before I can take advantage of them (yay storage!) isn't the most encouraging. It'll be funny to see a bunch of high levels running faster than everyone else, but with that number dwindling as time goes on... Elitism anyone?

I don't think the look is all that bad though. ^^; And who knows, maybe I'll be able to catch up in FFXI and have more fun in it again too... I did really love parts of that game.

Good point. How about admitting your use of playing devils advocate was completely pointless as it was easily seen by everybody but you that Hermes shoes had some significance with speed?
