People keep talking about how beta is gonna test the servers to see how much they can handle and the possibility of servers crashing after the release of FFXIV. In my opinion SE shouldn't and probably wont have much trouble with server population. This isn't their first MMO. If anything there may be problems with other peoples PC's running it. This don't mean other things will be fixed by then due to new content and how your PC will react to them.

I remember playing 11 on ps2 and they had some problems with WotG(ps2 only). I would talk to certain NPC's and it would freeze up on me. They got it fixed.

As far as what a server can handle. They have been dealing with those for a long time and for the most part know what it can do. Most of them lag issues people experienced in 11 was due to their systems not SEs.

I completely agree with you. SE has plenty experience with server load from FFXI. Also, I can say from experience from friends in past ffxi linkshells that what they are doing on their computer caused alot of lag issues they never realized.

Such as streaming music, downloading torrents, etc while playing ffxi. Alot of people don't realize these things are all competing for bandwidth and slowing you down in all areas.

Edit: although I do believe their will be issues non server load related in ffxi with the first few days/weeks of release that SE will have to close the servers down or create updates alot. I do remember certain game breaking issues in ffxi which they had to shutdown server and posted a mandatory update that you could not play before you downloaded/installed it.

Different games, different issues. In phase 2 they actually shut the servers down because of congestion caused at a camp shortly after they sent out the second wave of invites. They seem to be constantly increasing server capacity on their end though, if you go to create a character you'll see most beta servers at 1/3 chocobos (those are chocobos right?) When I first made my character most were 3/3 and I had to queue up.

I would like to think that the test has yet to really begin. Once they goto open beta (coming soon) that will put a lot of stress on their servers with everyone and their brother trying to get in it. Then on both release days..... would almost expect for them to have some issues and perhaps a emergency maintaince (sp) to help fix the issues thats will arise with the influx of players. Just a thought and could be 100% wrong on it. But ask you self this question... does everything always go as planned??
