1. Make sure your ports are opened and forwarded.

2. It's P2P styled, so make sure you're getting a lot of remote connections (which leads back to number 1.) then it will boost speeds/stay stable.

A lot of people don't need it so there's not AS many people as possible that could help distribute the updates atm.

So hey, about your post in the other thread, was it the Zam inbox or your email inbox?

As for your download, I think that's just the way it is. I had the right ports open (can't remember which at this point) and it was pretty random for me as well. My Beta client is all good to go. I'm just waiting for a key at this point :)

Congrats btw!

Go the beta website and read the client issue forum. Skip to page 85. This isn't the exact page you need but it is close. There is also a page on how to set UPnP for your computer if you aren't running windows 7. I think there is also a page on the site from SE that says what ports to have opened.

Following the directions given I average 1.5M with a high of 1.9M.

If you aren't configured properly, the download could take days. I had the download start and finish in a few hours (maybe less). Saw it hit over 700KB/s a few times. No key though, I just grabbed the installer from Fileplanet days ago :P

Yeah it seems like a few others got it in their e-mail as well. I'd wait to see if Pikko announces the winners publicly or just says "K im done" and then ask if you got one and tell her your situation

It just sucks seeing 350 KBpS for a minute and seeing ETA: 5 hrs. and getting excited, then going back to 20 hrs or w/e. Anyone know how big the file is btw?

(Just hit 40 local connections, guess it'll just get better with time?)

The launcher is the beta. You need to link the beta key to your Square-Enix ID before you can play. You can download the launcher/game before you have the key though.

Naw it isn't PoL type..it's just..I dunno..It's a small window that has a bar and it has the % of your DL..then your DL rate and upload rate and local connections. It's nothin special.

-Kicks in dissapointing DL rate-

Would it be faster if I downloaded this?:

http://www.fileplanet.com/215249/210000/fileinfo/Final-Fantasy-XIV-Beta-Launcher

or is there no difference?

You already have that. I think that's what I downloaded, and it was basically the "launcher" that proceeds to download all the data. When that's done, you'll get a Square-Enix ID login screen, and if you're key is linked to your ID, you're all set.

(EDIT: To Clarify, the FP download is only a hundred MB or so, and you still have to download everything else the way you are now)

It'd be nice if all the people who PAID for their keys at least had the option to download the full beta from fileplanet at max speed. Isn't that what it's for? :P

I s'pose. I think paying your way into the beta is too much though. As much as I was PRAYING for a key, I'd never go as far as throwing money away for one.

I suppose you could say that paying for the beta key is the same as paying for the Collector's Edition for no reason other than playing 8 days early. And that costs more than the, what was it.. like $7 to register on FP?

People have done crazier thing. I personally would never drop thousands of bucks on a Frostmourne replica, lol, but there ya go.

I think it's just because it's not really the game..it's just a 5% broken version of XIV. Cool/fun/exciting to be a tester, but not worth actual money to me. But you have a point hahaha

Speaking of testing, didn't I hear somewhere that people added in Beta 3 don't even get to report bugs? We're just here for stress testing or something....

I wonder if people that are having problems with downloading are using ISPs that restrict unencrypted P2P traffic.

That is correct, though if it were important I'm sure we could spread the info to someone who can report it, like the Beta sticky up there I never look at

EDIT
And yeah, those extreme fluctuations in the DL are annoying, it's been going a bit better now though...

I believe the fully installed program is around 15 GB.

Yes, it should get better with time. Mine shot up to 72 hours at one point, and I think it still took me 2-3 hours total to download the whole thing. This is on a cable connection.

Well consider the peer-to-peer model too.. When he did his download he was only in the cloud with a few fileplanet keys, we are with a whole bunch of fileplanet people as well as a whole bunch of fansite people.

More peers = faster download
