Error 11024 when updating client.Follow

Hey guys,

I've been having this problem for about a week, tried everything I could think of. I have the client installer downloaded/installed, when I run the client it goes "Checking Version" then "Initializing Network" followed by downloading the first file for the patch (H something or another). Once that is done it does a little install then then resets itself, gets back to "Checking Version" then spits out a 11024 time out error every time.

We can't post in the beta forums so I thought I might ask here. I did search through the beta forums for a solution and there were some suggestions which I have tried, but nothing has worked.

Has anyone else come across this problem and have a solution?

My client is working now but I got that error message when I tried opening the client, and it was downloading on uTorrent as well. ( i forgot it was in uTorrent) check if it's open in more than one place.

This isn't using uTorrent.

P.S. Don't use uTorrent to update the game. The p2p speed of the updater will only improve if people actually use it.

Can you post your pc specs please?
OS
Video card
CPU
amount of ram

Also, did you install it to the same hard drive that holds the "My Documents" folder?
I'll see what i can dig up for you, but your PC specs will help a lot.

Windows 7 64bit
Radeon 5970
i7 930
6G Ram

Thanks Teneleven, I appreciate the help.

And yes, I did install it to the same drive as 'My Documents'.

No anti-virus, no firewall. I disabled them along my travels to get this thing working.

Also, I'm using ethernet, not wireless.

A couple of things i can think of off the top of my head.
1. Make sure all drivers are up to date, and make sure you have DirectX 9. I built a comp for my brother, put win 7 on it, and he couldn't even run the benchmark. I had to download DirectX 9.

2. your install could be bugged, therefore you can try reinstalling, but i don't reccomend this.

3. This is the only time i don't have a problem with bypassing SE down loader. You can try going and grabbing the torrent files from the patch folder, and getting them from U torrent or an equivalent. Then just put the downloaded files where they go. My documents>> My Games>>> FF XIV Beta Version >>> downloads>>> ffxiv-beta >>>d96437e6 >>> meta info >>> H2010.07.26.2000 and download it using a bit-torrent client. Somehow, it got bugged with all the new patches, so i think this once is ok.

1. Drivers are fully up to date
2. I've tried reinstalling about 10 times
3. I've tried doing this - after the initial file update (H2010.08.04.2000) it performs the same thing again. Minor install followed by a reset, then "Checking Version..." failed to the same 11024 error.

K you using a router or direct connection to the modem? (also double check task manager to see if antivirus is acually disasbled, norton has that issue)

And yesh his suggestion about drivers up to date is also a good one?

Drivers are up to date.

I'm using a router (Netgear DG834G) that currently has all services open (firewall off), UPNP turned on.

did you try getting all the patches in that folder?

Also, i don't know if this is an issue for you, but there was a guy that couldn't get the beta to run for months, on a 6 thousand dollar PC. He said he actually had to turn off Hyperthreading to get it to work. Keep in mind he was running 2 6 core Xeon cpu's, so i'm not sure that this will apply to you.

There has only ever been the one patch file in that folder which is H2010.08.04.2000.

I think I've worked out what's going on. It's the boot version stuffing up.

The original boot version (pre-update) works just fine, but it must update to work. The newer one (2010.08.04) doesn't work at all and doesn't reach the "Initializing Network" bit.

Is there a newer boot version I can get? Or perhaps people know about some issues associated with this newer boot version that is borking?

No good Teneleven.

The boot doesn't even try to access that file. It dies too early. 2010.06.25.2002 version Seems to connect and try to update itself to the newer one of 2010.08.04.2000. If it is updated then it cannot connect to any network.

Bah. Sorry man, but now you have a few files you didn't. Hopefully someone can help you with the rest.

Edit: i believe you are supposed to replace the old boot file with the new one. Replace it and delete the old one ( although i suggest just renaming the old one incase it gets fubar).

I'm not using utorrent but dude the P2P is broken somehow on this client. There is no reason why I should be uploading from 3-10 times as much data as I am downloading and 0 remote connections... but the speed NEVER increases no matter how many local connections. I've never had problems with torrents before, and I've opened all my ports, **** even turned off my firewall. I'm getting from 3kbs to 50 kbs - mostly on the low side of that. It's garbage.

does SE even allow people to keep seeding? TBH, I think that is the problem.

There is a serious issue with the boot version. Some people get it and some people don't. I think it has to do with the software/hardware environment. Anyway, he was right. P2P only works if everyone uses it, but in this case, it doesn't matter who is using it since it is bugged.

Does this also cause you to get the black window that says the beta version of FFXIV has stopped working? This is what I get, and my specs is i7 Core, windows 7, ATI Radeon 5870.

That is usually caused by either outdated video drivers, or by not having DirectX 9 installed.

@OP good to hear you got it figured out. I don't think ISP's should have the right to do that kind of thing. You pay for bandwidth, they shouldn't be able to control how you use it. ><

I agree with you. Talking to their tech support staff, all they could do is blame my hardware. Since I've now proven that it's not my hardware I'll be getting a big repayment for the year or so that I've been with them using sub-standard service at a bloating price.

That's what ya get for ******** with gamers and their games I guess XD

My computer does have Direct X 9 or maybe even 11 installed. I downloaded from the FFXIV beta client if that makes any difference, also I did update the drivers. I'm not computer tech savy, so possibly I went to the wrong place to update the drivers? It's ATI Radeon 5870, and I went to a site I think was sponsored by them. It downloaded a Catalyst driver?
I also have something on there called Catalyst Control Center now?

This is a brand new computer, it's an i7 as I said before, windows 7 64 bit, ATI Radeon 5870 HD, Asus G73. Please if anyone has info on where to go to properly install drivers, or if I should install the beta client from a different place? I did uninstall the beta client and reinstalled from the FFXIV site. So that hasn't fixed anything for me.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, at this point if I can't get somewhere, I may take it to a freelance computer tech. I really don't understand this, its new machine and clean, with Norton virus protection.

Oh to reiterate the problem I am having. I get the little window thats black, no music or anything, and it says FFXIV beta version has stopped working, windows needs to close the program.

I have uninstalled my ATI drivers and reinstalled them. This corrected my problems. If anyone else experiences the beta version is not working msg, do try this as it worked for me. Thanks to any who had suggested this before. :)

If you are still having this issue and you live in South Korea, everyone in this country is experiencing difficulty connecting to the update server. Get some kind of VPN and it will allow you to connect and update. Switch back to your regular connection once the game starts.

If SE blocks South Korea completely... I'm going be a 22 year old man crying on my desk...
