So I've been patching for hour on end, and I'm only on 80% of H2010.08.10.2000 [1/6], my question is, is the first file the biggest with the rest being smaller, or is it all huge? I've been downloading since about... 10 AM and it's almost 6PM now :/

The first file is definitely very large.

My recommendation is to not watch it download, read a book.. see a movie.. do something else, and then come back and it'll be done

That's the alpha -> Beta patch. yeah, it's a big one. I still think you guys should be getting it faster though. I got the beta, and all patches minus the last 3 in about 2 hours. I'm not trying to brag, i just think it's strange.

Heh, I wish mine was downloading even that fast. a little over 7 hours and I've just barely hit 30% on that file. I don't mind so much as I'm trying to get my place completely clean now and also rearrange some stuff. Although I won't actually be playing till probably tomorrow anyway, would've been nice to have it all downloaded in a timely manner.

Anyway, back to my cleaning

I recall the 1st file being the largest as well. But there is another big one too I think.

One thing I'd also suggest is to leave te updater running as the active window. Even in FFXI, I would notice the updates going slower with POL minimized. As if it only uses normal resources when in the foreground. Course, that could just be me.

It took me 1 hour. All the patch files are using a torrent system as it is, but the beta software is just a crappy Utorrent with bad up and down speeds.

You can locate the torrents that the uploader uses though, after the check file does its thing and then open them in your own torrent program and then cut and paste. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

Well, in my case, I've never had a problem downloading torrents at a good speed. However, the HIGHEST my download got using a regular torrent client was .5kBps, no, I'm not kidding. I have no issues with torrents other then that so before you say anything else about how everyone is apparently doing it wrong, maybe offer a guide on HOW to do it. the one posted in the other thread didn't do it in my case, that was the .5kBps speed. As said before, any other torrent I have no issue downloading, but this one wouldn't download worth anything in my torrent client.

Edit: the .5kBps is ONLY on the FFXIV file, just for clarification.

I did not know that, otherwise I would've actually gone and done that, thus saving me lots of time, well, now I know what to do for the other 5 files, current file sitting at 99.1% which appears to be the "help others download" time :/

EDIT: Also, could you happen to inform me where the file I need to open in my torrent is by chance? please and thank yous

Okay by this point many of you are tempted to use some other torrenting software such as Utorrent. Please don't... SE has banned beta testers for using those programs. Only the supplied FFXIV patcher should be used. Think of it this way; not only are we testing the game, but the patching software as well. Its part of the beta. As good testers we should do everything we can to help the game's development Smiley: grin

After port forwarding all of my patches were downloaded in seconds.

If your remote connections are at 0, there is a problem. Mine were around 40 or so and it downloaded at over 1MB/s.

Almost no point. The allure of faster FFXIV is almost as powerful as the want and need to pop one's collar when on the cusp of being abundantly cool. I hope people pay attention to this ^. It's really important that we help SE get it right. In the end it's for our own benefit. Just leave the selfishness at the door, at least until release.

Ok well I know that people will frown on this, but honestly, the patcher told me it would take 30 days to download. I wasn't going to be able to dl it, this was my only route and I will post how to:

Go to:

C:\Documents and Settings\USER NAME on your computer\My Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version\downloads\ffxiv-beta\d96437e6\metainfo

Inside you will find 6 torrent files that the beta is using to download the patches. Find the one you are having trouble downloading, most likely it will be H2010.08.10.2000 because that is the big one.

If you have bittorrent or Utorrent, you can just double click this file and it will start downloading it in your preferred program.

After it's done go to:

C:\Documents and Settings\USER NAME on your computer\My Documents\My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version\downloads\ffxiv-beta\d96437e6\patch

Place the file there, then run the updater. It will recognize the patch, download the remaining files and install them. this should only take 10-20 minutes after you've downloaded the first one.

Windows 7 users will find these paths slightly different, but it will still be the last part starting with my games:

My Games\FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version\downloads\ffxiv-beta\d96437e6\meta info

Got lucky and only took a few hours for me to download on my laptop, then I transferred those files from portable hard drive to the other PCs I wanted to install it on.

Obviously not an option for everyone but something to keep in mind, especially for those with multiple PCs.
