I have played FFXI for about 5-6 years now and I still play it. In FFXI I have played from the start a RDM and got every other class to 37 just to support my RDM even further for Sub-job combinations. I love the Support/Backhealer concept of the RDM it just is my style of play in a MMO. I was just curious as to what Job/class in FFXIV closely fits the play style/ role of a RDM. Thank you in advance.

I'd say the only thing at this moment is thaumaturge. Conjurer also to a degree but since RDM's main thing was enhancing/enfeebling I'd go with thaumaturge.

I think the mage classes are going to be very different in this game. I was a WHM in FFXI but I'm thinking of Pugilist to start out on FFXIV

From what I've gathered, a mix between Conjurer and Thaumaturge would be the closest to RDM.
Thaumaturge has most of the debuffs, such as Slow, Dia, Bio, Paralyze, etc.
Whereas Conjurer has many buffs and support magic, such as Stoneskin, Cure, Protect, Shell, etc.

The drawback, however, is that you really shouldn't wear a sword, since that'd technically make you a Gladiator. You may be able to use magic as one, but it'll have decreased effects, such as Cure being single target and healing less in comparison to a Discipline of Magic class.

If you don't take Thaumaturge's dark magic and Conjurer's elemental debuffs, you should get something close to RDM.
