[SOLVED] Job change -- can't get back actions?Follow

#1 Aug 21 2010 at 2:41 PM Rating: Good
I'm hoping someone can make better sense of this than me, seeing as how I can't write a bug report or even post on the **** FFXIV support forums.

I started the game as Thaumaturge, with my Phantom Dart, and two MP-using actions. A few minutes ago, I bought my alchemy tools, but realized I didn't have enough money or mats to actually do anything. So I switched back to THM to do some grinding outside. But when I went to reset my actions, they're no longer available in the action selection screen (not the bar, but the screen in the menu). It also reminds me that Blood Rite, which I thought I earned back at Rank 2, has never been available for assigning in the action menu.

If you have any actions on your bar try to unequip them and then try to add back the thau actions.

That's the thing, they aren't there to equip anymore. I have a bar with only Phantom Dart on it, so I go to equip actions and I have only the choice to either unequip (which I can't do for my base action) or equip some unarmed strike.

You'll need to select thaumaturgy from the pull-down menu in the action pane, your skills are in there

That's a start. This drove me NUTS this morning.

After selecting your class from the dropdown menu, you have to click on the action bar location you want to equip at, then select your ability, and then select "main hand" [hand, WTF?! IT's a SPELL not staff]

And you have pulled down thaumaturge from the selections of jobs to choose skills from? Its at the top right hand corner on the actions and traits menu.

Yes and no. I finally got it now, you can't use a gamepad to select your class in the action menu. The drop down doesn't work with a gamepad, had to select it with the mouse. If you try to use the gamepad, it ignores the fact that you tried to change the drop down selection and continues to display nothing.

EDIT: Special thanks to UncleRuckusForLife and Callinon!

Holy sh*t...this is exactly why I just logged out due to frustration lol...so glad this thread was here...forgot about the few things the controller can't do right now...also might explain why I can't use my quest journal the right way? Seems like the same drop-down menu there too...cool...now I must try this!

EDIT
Yup, worked just fine...I was trying to do that first weaving leve and the drop-down menu wouldn't find the current quest with the controller...thought I broke it = P

You can also use a macro to do all this for you. Someone posted a guide in the beta forum, but good luck finding it. I haven't even found their search function yet, if there is one. Anyways, essentially it looks like this:

Open up your config menu, selet macros, click on a box, give it a name (mine is named "Gladiator" ;)), and type in this:

/equip main "Name of Weapon"
/equip sub "Name of Weapon(Shield)" [only if you have this - most classes don't atm]
/eaction 2 "Name of Ability" main
/eaction 3 "Name of Ability" main

etc.

If you use a weapon in your offhand (ie. a shield at this point) and want to use an ability associated with that offhand weapon, you replace the "main" at the end of the "/eaction" line with "sub".

Then you make a macro for your DoL or DoH like this:

/equip main "Name of Mainhand Tool"
/equip sub "Name of Offhand Tool"
/eaction 2 "Name of Ability"
etc.

Dunno how high the numbers go for the slots, but being that you have a bunch of slots beyond your first action bar, I imagine you can get a whole bunch. I haven't tried yet. Regardless, the macro activation is a little slow atm, but makes switching classes WAY easier. Especially if you have crafting related gear to switch out. (Check the beta guide for all the equipment slots and their associated names - I haven't needed to switch more than weapons out yet).

Yeah... I've been b*tchin' about this for a week.

The gamepad DOES NOT work with actions & traits, guildleve selection, local levequest selection (for importing the free materials given to you into your crafting recipe box), or for selecting the journal.

I am hoping by the time the open beta starts, this will have been fixed.

As of right now, I use primarily the gamepad, but also have to use the mouse, and then switch to keyboard for chat. So much for chilling with a wireless gamepad in my recliner and playing from my 52" LCD. It forces me to actually play at my PC.
