I need some help with the beta clientFollow

First off, I have been very reluctant to start a thread like this as I think I may be one of a very few that is having this issue, and some of the solutions I have seen are generalized responses that either don't fully read into the problem or just don't have any idea. Please excuse me if this is solved elsewhere, and I just haven't see it.

Ok...
When I try to start the file ffxivboot.exe (the download launcher), I get a black window (FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version), and after 2 seconds or so, I get the error message, "FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version has stopped working" and I have to close it.

My specs:
Vista SP2
Directx 11
Intel Core 2 CPU 6600 @ 2.4
2GB RAM
Nvidia 7950 GT
All drivers have been updated

I know the specs are low; however, there were tons of people on the beta forums with lesser rigs which are able to run this, with better rigs which weren't, and there was also a small group of people with 7000 series video cards which were able to run the game after getting the most updated game files (which I can't find).

I would appreciate any help, getting a list of file names for update, or any info on torrents (even if you just PM them to me). Thanks...

I got the black window as well, it did not crash though, i was just confused as to why it was doing it so closed it out and re-opened, and it was fine after that. Sorry that wasnt much help, just letting you know your not the only ones who got it.

I read that a few people just left it running (even if it looked like it crashed), and it started up, but that hasn't worked for me.

hmm, so your getting an actual error each time?

mine was dl'ing, went black, after i closed it and opened it back up i had made progress beyond the point of being black, so i dont think that affects the dl itself.

You don't lose any progress for starting over from the black screen. But the error message is beyond me.

i was playing last night fine. haven't had a chance to play again until just about 10 min ago and i am getting the same problem. I start the client up but all it does is open a black box with a yellow vertical line that extends from the top of the client down about 1/10 of the way. Kind of strange we're all having similar problems as i would think problems such as these with the client would be user side and not server side.

*EDIT* btw, i am not getting an error message, just a "not responding" message.

I'm having the same problem with mine. Quick black screen and then error saying it has stopped working. I've tried troubleshooting this for about 3 weeks now on the benchmark. The same exact thing happens on the beta client launcher. I get the black screen and error. I'm guessing that it is probably something to do with the compatibility of my particular graphics card. Really won't know till i get my new one though. I'll keep you posted how that goes.

My specs:
Vista SP2 32bit
DirectX 11 (dl all the 9's as well)
Intel Core 2 Quad CPU @2.66 OC @3.20
4GB RAM
ATI Radeon X1950XTX crossfire edition
All drivers updated as well.

I think a lot of people are having an issue with vista in general. The only thing i can say is to make sure you have Direct X 9.0c installed. However, if you were able to run the benchmark, then you probably all ready have it.

Edit: one other thing i noticed is that a lot of people having this issue all have low end video cards and cpu's. For example, a dual core cpu and a 7000 series nvidia. This game (and all of it's components including the launcher) is very dependent on both CPU and GPU. I think if you have a lower end gpu, you should be ok with a higher end CPU )(quad core for example). or visa-versa. But, since it's easier to upgrade your video card, i would suggest that. It will help make up for the CPU.

I don't know about that. I can't even download the game because the downloader (ffxivboot.exe) won't launch. I know I have DX 9 though. I got a horrible score on the benchmark, but it least it ran.

(by the way, anyone know the name of the file or location of the torrent for the game?)

Update to my other post.

I just restarted my comp and the client is now working. I think its just a finicky PoS client that they threw together given they were only using it for a few months, lol.

But i guess its worth mentioning that i have DirectX11 and Windows7.

Edit...

Yea, the files for the torrent should be within the beta client launcher that we can't access, Wooshoo. :(

I was reading a forum over on bluegartr about this issue and people that have Windows XP are having the same problem as well. So I guess that rules out that it's a vista problem only.

Try installing DirectX 9c. I was having the same problems and had to download this. In addition I would also update your graphics drivers from their respective websites also, just to air on the side of caution.

Direct X 9c.

Are you using a router? do you have upnp enabled (or w/e it's called)? It could be that the installer is unable to connect therefore giving you an error.

I've done both. Several times to no avail. Gotta be missing something though...

I've already done both of those, but thanks. I'm hoping I can find some magical solution before I have to just upgrade things I wasn't ready for.

I read somewhere on the beta forums that someone came up with a solution to this by doing some editing to the kernal file on your computer.

Probably not the safest thing to do.

Other than that I could only suggest to keep trying. It seems to be a common problem, it has even happened to me a few times but eventually went away.

I just went into my router upnp settings and found that I had this checked:
"Allow other network users to control wireless broadband router's network features"
I would assume that this needs to be checked?

I know it's a stupid question, but a lot of people make careless mistakes anyway, but are you absolutely certain you have the latest drivers for your video card and directx?

Also, I have a feeling it's got something to do with Vista as well.

I'm on vista too and get the black box and stopped working message on both benchmark and beta.
It is an old PC though, hopefully it'll be ok when I get the new PC next week.
