So...... I'm not sure if this has been posted yet or not, but I was just curious how many people are actually going to be receiving this item. It will be given to japanese players who have an active FFXI account. If they get both games activated at the same time, they'll be given these shoes. I'd assume it will be something similar for players outside of Japan as well. I'm sure they'll announce something soon.

So, if this is announced for areas outside of Japan, how many of you will be getting them? I'm just curious. I can't imagine many people having an active account in XI still. I know some of you do though. You'll be those lucky few who get to show off your unique kicks.

I gave my FFXI account away (donated it to my LS) so I get none. I'm a sad panda.

I appologize. I wasn't aware they had officially announced it yet. I just learned about it earlier today myself.

I'm sad that the requirements to get them is really high; They are not awarded during the free trial period of a game, so people who are willing to drop the $$ for them need to wait for their 30 free days (with initial activation) to end 1st.

But really the shoes are not that great; things that increase your movement speed are GREAT when playing ALONE. but if half your party members can't keep up and your stuck standing around waiting for them half the time? BLAH!

They aren't awarded during a free trial, but what if your account is inactive? Can't you just put your CC card back in and start it up?

LOL I wonder if it would stack with that archer ability for quick movement speed. It would make for quick trips to other cities if you have to run there.

I feel like a goon, and a numbnut.

I sold everything off my old main account and got myself banned so no one could use it in the end.

But after i saw the hermes shoes thing I remember sadly i had a mule account that i activated last night haha.

I honestly don't know the specifics, but I believe you have to link your FFXI account to your square enix account some how. I can't personally tell you exactly HOW to do it though. I appologize I can't help much more than that.

Where are people getting you won't get the item during the first month of XIV service? I looked on POL and it says you won't get a discount for XI during the first month, but nothing about not getting the item (unless XI it in free trial month)

Restriction on Discount XI montly pricing

* These perks will remain available until January 2011.

* This FINAL FANTASY XI monthly service fee discount applies to users paying by credit card.

* No discount will be applied to a month’s service fees if FINAL FANTASY XIV is in a free trial period on the 26th of the month.

* Additional fees will be incurred for additional FINAL FANTASY XI Content IDs.

Restriction on not getting the ingame item in XIV

- If you have created a character before linking your PlayOnline ID (It is, however, possible to receive the in-game item by deleting the characters you created, linking your PlayOnline ID, and then re-creating your characters).

- If, at the time of creating your FINAL FANTASY XIV character, the linked PlayOnline ID’s FINAL FANTASY XI Content IDs are invalid (the Content IDs have been cancelled and are thus not being billed).

- If the linked PlayOnline ID’s FINAL FANTASY XI is in the free trial period.

Woah woah woah. This doesn't seem right. Almost everyone playing ffxi right now created their character before linking their playonline id. This can't be right.

I am almost 100% sure they mean you have to link your XIV account to the SE account with your XI already linked before you create your XIV character, not your XI one.

On the main site its said to delete one of your characters and to remake one if you created your character before linking to POL ID. I deleted a mule and remade one. Hopefully that will be enough.

I am pretty sure that is in reference to if you made a XIV character before liking your POL account. That wouldn't make any sense having to delete something from an 8 year old game to get an item in a new one.

I mean it is SE so who knows, but I don't read it having to make or delete anything on the XI account, just that it needs to be linked before characters are created in XIV.

For whoever was unsure how to link their FFXI account to their SquareEnix Account... I literally just typed up instructions for my little sister an hour ago, so here they are.

1. Go to http://member.square-enix.com/na/
2. Click Member Login (top right corner) and put in your info (SE Account Name and pass, one-time password if you use it -- NOT your POL info)
3. When you're logged in click "Account Center" in the top right corner box (or click your portrait and then click the Account Center tab)
4. Click "SQUARE ENIX Account Management System" button on the left side
5. Put in your SE Account/Password again (Again, SE Account Name and pass, one-time password if you use it -- Again, NOT your POL info)
6. On the left side, under "Services and Options", click "Link Settings"

From there you can add a link to your FFXI account using your POL information. Hope that helps.

For those of you who are reactivating your FFXI account just to get Hermes Shoes in FFXIV:

Is it possible to wait until AFTER you have FFXIV to reactivate FFXI. That way you only have to pay the $7/month charge for your FFXI account, so it's like get Hermes Shoes for $7 rather than paying $12.95 to get them.

Seems like this would be the order:

1) Install and set up FFXIV
2) Link FFXI account to FFXIV and reactivate FFXI
3) Create a new character in FFXIV and get Hermes Shoes
4) Cancel FFXI subscription

Kind of annoying to see the equivalent of real money for in-game items. Already, we get an extra item for spending $25 on collector edition, now if we spend even more money we get some speed boots.

I would ignore this item, but their equivalents in ffxi were some of the most sought after items in the game. I fear I would regret not having these for years to come.

Even if my account is already linked to my SE account (I use a Security Token for FFXI) my FFXI account is currently deactivated and I don't see myself paying for a single month just to get these shoes.

It's not RMT if you're already paying for your FFXI account. You're paying for the RL items that come with the Collectors addition not the "in game bonus items".

Just to clarify; does one NEED to reinstall POL on a console/computer in order to re-activate their account for a month, or can it be done over a quick phone call?

Thanks!

The only way I know of to set up FFXI billing, is through POL. However, you shouldn't have to install all of XI just POL.

Thanks, Lamnethx! So, if I were to install POL on, say, my 360 (I don't have my XI PC discs where I am now), I'd be able to just renew my subscription, and that would be all I need to do to get the Hermes shoes next month? I already linked my account per the excellent instructions earlier in this thread.

Once again, thanks so much for all the help!

All you would need to do is install PoL on your PC not FFXI.

I think you can just download POL and install it. No worry about not having a disc.

I used the security key for FFXI. Does that mean I already went through the process of linking my POL account to my Square Enix account?

If so, does that mean all I have to do is activate FFXI before I activate FFXIV and I should automatically have these boots when I first log in to FFXIV?

Also, does anyone know if these boots are a constant effect, or an item that has a fixed number of charges?

Thanks

It's gonna be $12.95 no matter how you do it I think. I'm pretty sure the $7 a month will only happen after you FFXIV account is no longer on its free trial as well, unless I read that part wrong.

Or you could conceivably wait til your XIV account is no longer on the trial and pay only $7 that way.But I dont see many people who are gonna be willing to delete a month of progress and start all over again for some speed boots. Cause that's what you would have to do as only characters created after merging your active Playonline ID that is not in a trial to your FFXIV account will be eligible for the boots. So basically they are getting at least one month of full price FFXI out of us no matter what if we want the boots.

If I have this figured wrong please ignore me as I am likely being an idiot again :)

Edit: Just edited to say that I can confirm all you need to have to reactivate your old playonlineID is the PoL viewer and it's easily available on the FFXI website, no need to mess with discs or reinstall the game. I linked my old PoL Id to my SquareEnix ID using this method just a few hours ago, I'm waiting until closer to Sep22nd though to actually reactivate my account though.

I dont think you will want to wait until after the trial period of XIV because the POL site says that you must have the active and linked POL to SE account before you create the char on XIV. Only way to get boots is to delete char before the link and recreate them. Dont think you will want to do that after a month of XIV.

From POL/XIV Perk page:
If a PlayOnline ID with an active FINAL FANTASY XI Content ID is linked to a Square Enix account with a FINAL FANTASY XIV service account, all new characters created on that FINAL FANTASY XIV service account will start out possessing a special in-game item.

* Please note that you will not be able to receive a special in-game item in the following cases:
- If you have created a character before linking your PlayOnline ID (It is, however, possible to receive the in-game item by deleting the characters you created, linking your PlayOnline ID, and then re-creating your characters).
- If, at the time of creating your FINAL FANTASY XIV character, the linked PlayOnline ID’s FINAL FANTASY XI Content IDs are invalid (the Content IDs have been cancelled and are thus not being billed).
- If the linked PlayOnline ID’s FINAL FANTASY XI is in the free trial period.

Well I can't get my shoes to load when I make my new characters. The onion helm is there, but no boots. It was yesterday that I reactivated my FFXI account and it was already linked to my square enix account. I've waited a long time, hoping that perhaps that would solve the problem, but no luck.

I was in the beta and I made sure to avoid even loading that data thinking that perhaps it would interfere, but nothing has worked. It clearly says on their website that I should be able to delete my characters and make new ones with the item, but not for me I guess...

I don't know what to do, but I hate wasting my extra play time from picking the collector's edition.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

I got the shoes by activating at the beginning of September. After I activated I linked my account to my Square-Enix account. After that, I reactivated both of my content IDs. I then deleted my mule, and recreated the mule, and played through just long enough to walk around. After that, I logged out and waited for FF14. If you haven't done most of these steps, that might be your issue.

I just got my Hermes' Shoes today, and all I did was link my PlayOnline account to my Square Enix Account, then installed PlayOnline (had to d/l the Windows 7 version), and reactivated my Content ID for my main character. I did all this at about 11pm PST yesterday, and I got my Hermes' shoes at 3:30pm PST the next day. I did check for the Hermes shoes at about 10am today and I didn't get them yet, so there is a delay.

It's really not necessary to do all those extra steps. You don't need to reactivate your mule. And you don't even need to install FFXI or run around with your FFXI character.
