I know there are some people saying they are having alot of fps and choppy issues in the beta. Some have very good pcs while others dont. Some people with bad benchmark scores and older pcs have less problems then people with very good pcs.

i just wanted to give some advice since for those that may not know. In FFXI I knew alot of people that complained about the very same things. Some of the reasons that caused the issues were as follows.

Streaming music while playing on a slow internet connection while playing.
Downloading stuff in background while playing.
Other people on the same internet connection in the house doing those things as well while playing.

Bandwidth can cause alot of fps issues as well as graphics cards. So you might want to do some process of elmination if you think your pc should be running fine and it isn't.

Hope this helps.

I'd also like to mention for those that are unfamiliar, UI lag is natural in beta. Square-Enix is currently actively monitoring people and this process is causing a lot of lag, among other things they implemented. This UI lag will be reduced when the game is out. The UI lag is probably unavoidable.

Actually it's an anti cheating measure. Basically they have moved everything important to the server side where a debugger can't reach it.

The downside to this is UI lag because the client has to send key presses and mouse clicks the server and then the server sends the update to the UI back to the client to be displayed.

I'm sure this works great when the distance to the server is only a few hundred miles. They might be able to optimize this and reduce the UI lag but if they insist on keeping it this way there will always be lag for players outside Japan.

Adjust the resolution of menus.
The main screen resolution for "FINAL FANTASY XI" is dependent on the "Overlay Graphics Resolution" setting.
If the Overlay Graphics Resolution is set higher than the Menu Resolution, menus will be automatically resized.

I thought of it first:

@Lobivopis: you know now that you mention this, I was crafting right next to a Japanese player, both cooking, both making juice - I swear on both my unborn children this person was putting out 3, 4, 5 juices in a row before I managed to make one (make or fail that is)...he would finish one juice and like instantly would be making the second one. The thing that slowed me down the most was UI lag so I really hope they change that, I would definitely hate to play the game with the current UI lag intact or ANY kind of UI lag for that matter.

Are you sure about that? When my framerate is high, I don't notice any UI lag _with a controller_ (the mouse is always laggy). There should be ~90ms of round-trip-time from eastcoast USA to Japan, which isn't too hard to notice, and I do notice a ~300ms delay during combat when using the command to do an attack. This is quite a lot higher than in XI, which seems to have less than 100ms delay when doing, say a weaponskill even with a lot of players around.
