Hi, I'm an American expat living in Vietnam, and I was wondering if anyone knew if FFXIV will be playable in regions outside of the US, the UK, and Japan. I'm a bit concerned, because it seems FFXI isn't available in my region (I posted a similar thread in the FFXI forum) and I hope I'll be able to play FFXIV when it's released next month. I can't seem to find any information related to this issue, so any help would be appreciated!

Japan and the rest of Asia don't get along very well together...now I'm not suggesting you won't see FFXIV...just saying if you never do this might be why.

Heya,

I live in Thailand. I was able to play FFXI here without a problem. I can also run the beta for FFXIV here as well. I'm pretty sure when the game is released I will be able to play from here. I asked a game store here and they said that a distributer already purchased the rights to import and distribute FFXIV, so I'm almost certain that it will be playable here.

Hey, I'm an American expat living in Japan, you should check this site http://www.play-asia.com to see if they ship your way, which I would bet they do. Thats the site I'm using to pick up my copy of the game. Atm though for the CE they are still figuring out how many copies they can get off the distributor so its not available for pre-order yet.

Edit: Make sure you pick up the US version though, because while i'm not 100% I am fairly sure you need to register on whatever region the game is listed from, IE: I can't just buy it at the store over here because I'm not fluent enough to register it in japanese.

OP I am in Southeast Asia as well. I don't think we will have any issues accessing the game. I purchased the CE on Amazon and I will just have it shipped to me here. It wouldn't make much sense for them to not allow you to access the game from a certain region in the world.

I don't know about XIV but XI worked for me in Iraq and Afghanistan. It was a bit laggy, but it worked just fine.

I'd assume XIV will as long as you import an NA or EU client

Would it really work for us here in Southeast Asia? I'm from the Philippines and when I tried to set my region on SE's account management my country and most of Southeast Asian countries are not in any list of regions that you can select, I'm not sure if its a bug or something but now I'm thinking of cancelling my CE pre-order because of it....

I live in Thailand. This country isn't listed on that page either.

I wouldn't be TOO worried about it just yet though (although I admit I am a little). I'm pretty sure there will be a solution.

Yeah hopefully SquareEnix will fix this one, I really want to play this one, I'm a bit tired of WoW so FFXIV would be a refreshing game for me and I'm willing to shell out money for the CE

I heard those countries won't be able to play the game due to SE's improved anti-RMT efforts.

I keed.

Although most rmt origins from china, but i dont see why japan(part of asia) is also stopping other countries in asia from registering profile to their own country. They had brunei in the list, but they did not include most of the asia countries such as malaysia, singapore, indonesia, philpines, vietnam, thailand and many more. In fact many of these countries are further from china than japan is, many do support final fantasy 11 right from the start. Now that the system is changed in the midst for players in ff11 to be stuck, and ff14 to be unreachable to many of us.

One important issue will be region, it seems that the system choose your selected region after you select and confirm, so people who pre-order the US version, and their country is in the EU region list will be force to cancel their pre-order due to region compatibility?

If SE is blocking Asian countries why would it include Brunei, East Timor, Nepal, India and the Middle East on the list of countries but not Southeast Asian ones, Brunei and East Timor are part of Southeast Asia BTW, this makes me wonder what the reason behind our countries not being included but countries like Kazaksthan, Kyrgyz, and Tajikistan and all of Africa were included, so it seems that Southeast Asia is on a different planet =)

The reason why certain countries arent included in the list are due to rights and license issues. The countries excluded normally do not have a company that have obtained rights or license from SE to work as a middleman to SE's services. Brunei, East Timor, Nepal, India and the Middle East do have companies which had signed with SE to act as a relay to their services, etc. Therefore you see the countries name listed.

Of course being an international release, you can play FFXIV all around the world as there's no ip block, just that you may not receive certain services or have access to certain services like sales of time-card at your local convenience store, absence of launch event/ physical special events, etc. Therefore do not worry if you're out of the stated region course you still can play, I'm in Singapore but i'm still able to play the game from here.

Sometimes you have your local gaming community to blame as well, it maybe due to the nature of the countries' game community that SE or local Co. dare not sign up a contract to provide services there. Esp for countries in SEA region, they're famous for going for F2P mmos while sales for P2P mmo is minimal and loses out to those in Japan/US/UK.

Just make sure when you buy the game, the game is of your acc's region, i.e. us region gamebox for us region acc. While the servers are all the same, the software's region locked, a diff region's acc would not be able to play with another region's game box.

If you live in Singapore, and the country isn't listed when you register your SE account, which country did you choose instead of Singapore?

And when the game does come out, how will you pay for it since your SE account country will likely have to match your home address, which will have to match your credit card.

It's really scary how little info Square Enix actually released so far while FFXIV CE is gonna release in another 2 weeks+..

I still don't know whether I should preorder EU or NA version because my country Malaysia is not included too.

Re: FINAL FANTASY XIV for PC Confirmed for 30th SEPTEMBER 2010 Release
Got a new answer from Square Enix with regards to Region.

Q: What region does Singapore fall under?‏

Answer:
Dear Customer,

Regarding your request for account support. Please find your answer below.

Usable software and services will differ depending on your country and region of residence. When purchasing software, please verify that the software's region matches your account's registered region. Please note that you cannot change your country or region after registration has completed. Also, it is best to choose the region closest to your current location, if your specific country is not listed.

Please check for updates at: https://member.square-enix.com/na/login/regionselect.php

Thank you for contacting the SQUARE ENIX Support Center.

So essentially, SE has kinda given us permission to choose any country reasonably close by. XD
