Hey guys, I'm new to the Final fantasy franchise.
I mean I've played all of FF7, half of FF8 and about a third of FF10.
I'm not the hardcore fan as most of you are but to be honest I'm so pumped for this game to come out.
Me and a few mates are taking the Thursday/Friday off work to LAN and play this game when the collectors editions pre-order is released.
Anywho, to my point.
Apart from knowing what Chocobos are, is there much reference to previous FF games in FFXIV?
My mates have told me, usually the games are rather stand alone, and there are a few little references to the older games, but none that impact the game play much.
So I'm curious if the beta players and fans here know anything they don't?

Cheers for anything in advance :)

Generally, the Final Fantasy titles are stand alone and each entry into the series is different. There have only been a handful of direct sequels and spin offs (Final Fantasy X-2 & Final Fantasy XII Revenant Wings come to mind). There are a few recurring themes in most of the Final Fantasy titles, such as a chocobos and a character named Cid. But all in all you won't find the situations/characters from previous titles having any direct impact on the worlds of future Final Fantasy titles.

There's usually things that are carried over like chocobos, moogles and Cid (the airship guy).

Fighting in all of the FF games (not the MMOs) has been pretty much the same, and to be honest the only things that are different are the self contained stories.

So you don't really need to know anything prior to playing especially not for this one.

The best thing on your side is starting with a group of friends.

Have fun!

Sweet that's really handy.
Are Abilities and Powers the same?
Is there certain Level trees that might carry?
Certain all powerful moves?
