I know it's floating around here somewhere, but I don't have premium search, and my google fu has failed me.

I'm having a HUGE issue with a specific crash [directX device not found] and was hoping someone would be kind enough to link some resources to help me figure out how to resolve this.

This happens to me too. But it only happens for me if I try to alt+tab, with a couple exceptions where it happened out of nowhere. Is the game playable for you, even for a little bit? SE pretty much stated already that if you have crashes or errors(and can still play) just restart the client, or try restarting your computer. Same goes for bugs that cause freezing or getting stuck.

It's now doing it on 2 completely different machines. One has a 5870 and one has a 9800 GTX-S [the latter just locked up in the middle of the opening cutscene.

Fortunately, this tells me it's not the settings on my machine specifically that are causing it. I'm starting to wonder if I didn't get a corrupt download, or if there's a specific issue tied to this. That's why I'm trying to find the beta forums. I was hoping there was some kind of known issue or workaround.

Though I should mention, if I turn on Ambient occlusion I don't get this error. Of course, the mouse lag KILLS me then. . but it won't crash.

And on mine, it seems like if I turn off AA it goes longer, just stutters. at 8x or 4x it crashes on average every 5 minutes, making the beta unplayable

Yea, I should probably post the diag history.

Reinstalled directX twice. Tried catalyst 106 and 10.7a drivers. The only issues I have are with FFXIV beta client.

Computer is running windows 7 pro 64 bit.

AMD X6 1090t @ 4.11Ghz
Gigabyte 5870 running @ 965/1300 stable.
Max GFX temps reported by HWmonitor 69c.
Processor temps about 37c

I'm probably going to have to mess around with settings some more, but right now my wife has. . . well. . pre-empted my diagnostic evaluation, if you take my meaning ><

[we'll see if her computer continues to experience the same problem]

Protip:

If there's something on your machine that utilizes DX like gaming does it will crash FFXIV. E.g you load up a rendering program or another game while playing XIV (especially going into fullscreen or takes focus) XIV will crash. This happened to me a few times and it seemed to be linked to the programs I was using at the time.

In otherwords, close rainmeter and try again ;)

I have no idea if rainmeter uses directX, though google foo suggests it might.

Back in 20 ;)

Seems like the issue might be with Gigabyte's GFX overclocking software! Disabled that and managed to go over 10 minutes without issue. . have to stress test it later on.

Lex. . sorry. . Mistress Theon. . . /salute. Even if it doesn't fix entirely, I don't crash every 2-5 now :)

UPDATE:

about 25 minutes in, locked up ><

I'm nowhere near my temperature threshhold [73c max in FFXIV, it goes past 90c]

And I'm STILL getting this problem. I've tried reinstalling directX and every driver I can get my hands on. . anyone got any other theories?
