Hello! I was wondering what I would need to upgrade my machine for FFXIV online. I have a Dell XPS 700 ( DXG061) , windows xp, Intell Core 2 Cpu 6300 @ 1.86 GHz , Nvidia GeForce 7900 GS , and 3 GB of Ram. When I started the bench mark I had the problem of just audio and no video , along with the pathetic score of 585 ... :( any ideas on what I should buy? Thanks!!!!

At 1.8Ghz I don't think you'll be able to handle the game. You might be able to push it if you overlock, but if you don't know what that is I wouldn't bother with it; you'd end up just messing up your computer.

You can wait for the actual release date and see what the specifications are, but if I were you I'd start budgeting for a new computer.

Dual Core 2.4Ghz processor at the very least for next generation

Yes PS3 is likely your best bet.

If you're still interested in a new system, start saving up for quad core processer, 4 Gigs of Ram, and a 5770 or 5850.

Not a prebuilt. There are several threads explaining why.

Prebuilt systems tend to come with meh processors and terrible graphics cards. You can upgrade to a better graphics card if you're willing to fork out an exorbitant amount of extra cash.

I'll see if I can find the Dell-related thread on this with some examples of Dell systems, customized, that are worth buying if you feel like paying too much for your parts instead of building it yourself or going through a system builder.

Okay, found it.

Check out these three posts.

That entire thread is about an OP who bought a Dell system that was unable to run XIV and suggestions on:

1) Places to buy from instead.
2) Reasons why retail manufacturers are horrible people.
3) What to buy if you feel you MUST buy from a retail manufacturer.

The thread is a worthwhile read, even if you're just going to skim through it.
