This option certainly threw a monkey wrench into the works of my planning.
Waaaaaaaayyyyyy back before FFXI came to the US, i had one of the little advertisement packets, and i drooled over it daily, i still have it too, and i thought and i planned and i imagined, just as i am now. I decided (this is even pre CoP time here) that i would level a Ninja and Thief, and these would be my classes, and i wanted balance so i went with the Asian looking Hume and (wait, no spell check on Hume?) an Asian sounding name hence "Kazamoto" and i felt all ninja like.
The point of this story, is the name i had picked out had some attention to it, and now i have to come up with a last name for a character i have known these last 8 years, and am having the damnedest time. Anyone else in the same boat, whether to carry on the old name, or come up with something new?
I was having quite a bit of difficulty with it as well early on. Though I am
bummed about the surname thing (nothing really fit with the name I was planning on using) I was eventually able to work through it.
Instead of trying to tack on a surname to the single-word name that I was planning on switching to, I just decided to go back to my old FFXI name. Better I thought, to make it easy for people to recognize and remember me from FFXI and these boards. I spent a little while searching and came up with a surname for it that I'm very happy with, so yey.
I guess I'd say that if it's more important to you to have your old character's history, relationships, and notoriety than it is to have a "fresh start" then find a surname to go with your old name. "Kazamoto" doesn't sound like it would be too difficult to pair with a surname.
If it's important for your name to have a relevant/cool meaning (it sure is for me!) maybe a site like this
