Hello everyone! I'm new to the forum:) A little qualifier: I played ffxi for ......ever. But I had a son and now I just dont' have the time to play, so I'm excited to play ff14...I hear it can be a little more "casual". I do have a few questions, so if any of you are up for it, I would greatly appreciate your help!

First, will the people who beta the game get to keep the characters and names they had during beta or will they have to start fresh like everyone else? I have read conflicting information about that!

Next, I know there are like a million threads about this, but I'll add it here anyway. My laptop won't even run the benchmark much less the game!, so I'm upgrading an old desktop I have. I just need to upgrade the processor and graphics card...everything else is good (or I have extra parts laying around I can use).

So I'm looking into getting this processor:
AMD Athlon II X3 440

And the graphics:
Radeon HD 5770

I'm on a super tight budget so I am pretty much trying to get what I can to play the game as cheap as I can......

Let me know what you think about the choices so far. Thanks

1: Start from fresh. (Let me clarify) - I do not believe we will keep our levels or gear. In terms of our names, this I do NOT know. I think they will erase names also, personally.

2: That CPU and GPU look fine. You should be able to play the game without a problem. Just make sure your PSU (Power supply) is around 600 Watts.

As far as I know, characters are being wiped for the release. SE talked about possibility of people keeping character names from open beta to release but I haven't heard more on this.

When you say old desktop, how old? What are the specs of it now?

Characters are wiped. If you want something you can enjoy with limited play time this game will work great for you.

SE has stated somewhere that they may look at allowing beta characters to keep their name. I don't know if that will happen.

Someone more knowledgeable than me should help you with the processor. The GPU looks acceptable.

When it comes to sitting around not doing anything for long periods of time, only being active for short windows, and marginal changes and sidegrades I'd say FFXI players were the perfect choice for politicians.

That hardware looks OK.

Just make sure that your motherboard supports that CPU. You may have to upgrade the BIOS.

I don't think it will be difficult to get whatever name you want anyway. I haven't seen any names that are even remotely similar.
