Great if you need a SSD and want a way into the beta.

"Offer expires 8/26"

Doesn't the beta end, like, on the 25th? -_-

Next is the open beta, where (pretty much) everyone will have access anyway.

I wonder what their definition of the word "exclusive" is. I do not think it means what they think it means.

SSD drives are worth it, especially when you can get a 40GB for around $100 and then just grab a standard SATA drive for storage and non-essential apps. Load OS & games onto the SSD and the performance is definitely worth it. Smiley: wink

I'm well aware they're worth it if you can afford them. I'm just broke. Smiley: smile

There was a nice discussion on beta site about this. Most people came to the conclusion that solid state hard drives improved loading times, but nothing else during the game. Most also said that Sata 3 was just as good, if not better ... and a lot cheaper.

SATA 3 on a mechanical drive is a nice marketing ploy, but nothing else performance-wise. SATA 2 is more than enough to handle a HDD, and would be good enough for about 95% of the people that are making the switch to SSD.

I was under the impression that in Raid 0 (I think) that old school HDDs get a minor boost through SATA3? I know a few SSDs have been shown to get worse performance with SATA3 than 2 in a few reviews so far, but I'm going to guess it's a driver issue.

I do agree though that SATA 2 will most likely never be saturated by a standard HDD

It's already been said that they're definition of an open beta hasn't been confirmed to be THAT OPEN of a beta. While there's a possibility that everyone will be allowed to play, there's also a chance that they won't. You'll still need to apply to open beta which gives the impression that everyone might not be allowed in.

I'm leaning towards the idea that they're version of an "open beta" will just be the final beta where the NDA is lifted. That's my spin on it anyway.

yeah I don't think "open" beta is going to be as open as some people are hoping.
