Note to New Beta Testers: Register Your Keys NowFollow

#1 Aug 24 2010 at 11:07 PM Rating: Excellent
Beta codes distributed through Final Fantasy XIV fan sites – including approximately 500 handed out through ZAM.com – will become invalid unless they are registered by the end of the current phase of beta testing.

The current phase of testing, Phase 3, is scheduled to end at 5 p.m. PDT on Wednesday, Aug. 25.

People who are already registered and playing in the beta will receive emails in their Square Enix Accounts. The emails will contain new codes that can be redeemed in the same fashion as previous codes.

The current codes will become invalid because the codes are changing for the launch of the open beta.

We will keep you updated on this issue when we have something new to report. Until then, spread the word to register your beta codes before it’s too late!

I'm a bit confused why they would need codes if it's an "open" beta?

With SE, who knows?

Perhaps open beta simply means the NDA is lifted, and not open as in "anyone can play it".

Who can say?

There may still be a limit on how many they are handing out since they probably won't make new servers and don't want to overcrowd the current ones.

What exactly do you mean by "register"? Could you be a bit more specific so I know exactly what it is I have to do?

Thanks.

Goto https://member.square-enix.com/na/member/
Log in using your SE account info
Click Square Enix Account Manage System (bottom left)
Log in again (yes again with SE login)
Click the Add Service Button on the left pane
Drop down the menu to FFXIV Beta Test and click next
It will ask you to input your beta key that you were provided at this point.
You are then registered with the Beta Account using your SE Login

edit: added quote

I got this message: This service has already been either added to your account or cancelled.
If the service has been cancelled, please reactivate it through "Reactivate Service."

I take it that means I've already registered?

If you have ever logged into the beta server then you have registered it. If you sat on the key and admired how pretty it was without playing the beta the key is worthless now unless you linked it.

/panic
I don't have any notifications in my Email associated with my SE account, or any notifications on my SE account at all.

Am I looking in the right place?

I have to work in 1 hour, if they send me my new key with less than 7 hours to register it, I won't be able to and will be out of the next beta! have any other current beta players (who got their keys before the giveaways) gotten their messages yet? where are they? do you think it's possible the keys SE gave Gamestop on the 6th of this month were the "new" type of keys?

Im sure the open beta keys will not go out until a few days after the closed beta is actually completed.
I doubt you will receive it today. As long as your closed beta key was active whatever email address you have linked to your SE account is where you will probably get your NEW OPEN BETA key for when it is time to activate it.

Had me thinking I'd have to register my NEW key by end of beta today, (because I ASSumed the fansite keys were the new kind.) but now I surmise that they have to register their keys by today so they can be resent NEW keys during the down time as well. They got the same "old type" of key we all did, and must register immediately in order to get the "upgrade."

I'm thinking the same thing. Their definition of Open Beta could be a lot different than ours. To them Open Beta could just be a full lift of the NDA. And a large amount of new players.

I registered but have not played yet. Lost my internet connection with 40% left to go. I've been fighting with customer service for the past four days. They said the problem would be fixed today. They have impeccable timing.

I hope i can still finish my dl!!

Anyway, what that means is, if you didn't USE your key by close of phase 3, it won't work for Open Beta. If you already used your key, you'll get an email from SE with a new code to get into Open Beta.

Now you just need to find out who all 500 are and track them down and beat them up?
