If you're anything like me, you've had a pretty good idea of what you wanted to play as. From day one I knew I wanted to be a Keeper of the Moon Miqo'te. Everything I read and saw drew me to that particular combo. However... after being able to play around in the beta I've found that I'm falling in love with the hyur highlander! They're just so coool!

Now I have no idea what I want to be. I loved mithra in FFXI and it would be nice to continue that in FFXIV, but I wonder if I'm missing the chance to try something new. And people wonder why you might want two characters lol.

Anyway, I'm curious to know if anyone is having a similar experience. Have you found yourself reconsidering your character choices after playing beta?

Miqo'te

Hyur

I wasn't entirely sure when I first started seeing pictures and whatnot. I played a Hume for a long time in FFXI with very small desire to play Mithra (though I preferred Hume stats). Without the stats being an issue (as it is in FFXIV) the playing field got a little more fair (as far as what I would be willing to play)... I'm a female, and the type who wants to play something pretty (though I'm not a big F. Elezen fan, I don't like playing "taller" women as I'm only 5'4'' IRL :P). So it was between Hyur and Miqo'te. I started out thinking that the Hyur (facially) were quite a bit prettier than Miqo'te (and a lot of the material that was introduced early on made all the Miqo'te look childish in the face). In a lot of cases, I still think Hyur are prettier, but I'm 100% going Miqo'te (Moon Keeper). I've seen enough of the character creation options to know that I can create a Miqo'te that is both lovely and not overly pre-teeny in the face. :P And I love the ears/tail! (That and I have a fondness for somewhat "wilder" races with animistic-style beliefs. Also why I'm starting in Gridania... The quote from an NPC about how they are basically one with the forest, with the inhabitants of the forest and the forest itself loving each other mutually. That appealed to me, a lot like the Viera in FFXII.) My boyfriend plans on playing Miqo'te as well. :)

That's what's drew me to Miqo'te as well. I like having a tail and ears and the way the designers work it into the armor gives Miqo'te that extra little bit of unique. If I could only have a miqo'te with black hair and red highlights and a goatee Smiley: cry

But that would require male Miqo's! :( Oh well... At least we get them as NPC's. :\

In the beta they are; who knows what it will be like with people picking permanent characters. In FFXI, Mithra were actually the second to last as far as race popularity. They may have been #3 at some point (beating out Elvaan). Although maybe the change really will be that drastic between the two games. :P All I know is I've played hume for 5 years. I'm ready for Miqo'te.

Truth. It's so weird because the highlander type isn't the kind of character I usually go for, but I really think it's time to switch it up a bit. Of course I might have to reconsider going back to Miqo'te if what I hear is true and there's gonna be a whip class eventually.

Wow, I just noticed the pictures. Your Hyur does look awesome! And I'm not usually fond of muscular men, so I suppose that says something. He's a beast!

Post of the week.

I laughed so hard...then cried a little. ****.

Anyway, I was able to create an awesome midlander. The lancer in that pic was just a horrible, horrible example of the male hyur midlander potential. But yes, the emotes are still pretty bad. I took some shots -- I'll try uploading them later tonight...

I played a taru for ever, so i really wanted to give Miqo'te a spin. To be truthful, i like the changes made to Miqo'te from mithra. However, i also really like the changes from tarutaru to lallafell. So i have also come to a crossraods. Do i make my usual male lallafell (taru), or go with spicy miqo'te? or both?

Hmm... Oh magic 8 ball .... where are you when i really need you? ><

You know, I'm exactly the opposite in regards to the Lalafell. I loved my taru in XI which is why I wanted a lalafell in XIV.......then I played one in the last beta phase. Maybe it's just me, but I don't think I could play a lalafell for very long in retail, I lasted till lvl 3 in phase 3, deleted it, and then decided to spend the rest of my time messing with the character editor. The way they run specifically got on my nerves, but that's probably just me.

The Roga........Galka-like race however, I had fun with, created one that looked sorta like Zhang Fei, and a hume that looked like a young Cao Cao. That was fun. Gonna be messing with the rest of the races in the next phase to decide which one I'll finally play at retail.

****... that's the coolest looking highlander I've seen to date. I say go with that, for a bit of variety, I saw almost no highlanders at all in beta.

Now I don't know whether to go with my pretty-qote or badass-highlander. D: This makes me even more steamed about male miqote not being playable ; ;

So get two characters. This would cost you $15.99 a month for two characters and 2 retainers...I think that's a pretty good deal the way this game was modeled. I too wanted to play Mi'Qote and thinking of going the Highlander route, I'd rather play a male character since i'm a male but Mi'Qotes are pretty **** awesome once again just as Mithras were in FFXI - although they are abundant once again it seems...and Roegadyn are also pretty sweet and are also used least it seems once again...that's another intriguing option.

Exactly. Roegadyn is actually top of my list as a possibility right now, above Miqo'te/hyur. But seeing a Roegadyn doesn't seem to be very abundant in numbers I may end up going with one of them.

I love cats and am a rather feline person so when I first saw the character races, I knew immediately I wanted to be a Miquo'te. However, then seem to be very popular and every neko-anime fanboy and his cat seem to be making Miquo'tes. I might end up with a Hyur midlander as they are quote pretty. For some reason I find the Elezen ... kind of disproportionate. Like the head is too small for the body, or the limbs are too long or something.

I have not been in beta and though I have seen the character selection videos on Youtube, I feel I will be spending quite a long time character creating.

I'm so sad, I've been having sleepless nights trying to figure this out. I was Hume male in FFXI - tried to pick a character that most looked like me ^^

In Alpha/Beta I have tried every main race and I am torn between Miq's and Hyurs - There were so many manthras running around in Beta3 is was hard to see another race in a party on some occasions, but I really like the way they are animated and the way they look, however the Hyurs also look good. One thing I enjoyed as well was playing a lala because the way they seem to run really fast is so funny. although they dont look as cute in FFXIV as they did in FFXI.

The other thing I'm restless about is what to put as my Sirname (second name) - I really don't know and I really want to keep my original name from FFXI but nothing I come up with sounds good.

Must start tying to count more sheep and I'll hopefully get a few hours tonight!

Try to remember, this is Fantasy. It's cool making a characther that resembles you, but by fantasy rules, you don't have too.
I suggest going with whatever made you laugh the most. You will be looking at him/her for a long time.

Lol 'Try to remember, this is fantasy' - made me laugh out loud hehe.

Yeah totally agree, still I think for some people putting in 'yourself' as a physical manifistation is part of that, well was for me. Still in two minds though, to go for something totally different this time...how will my FFXI freinds recognise me! :)

I think the race that makes me laugh the most is probably the lala's, but I'm still bordering on going manthra - although the whole - mistaken for a girl thing does bother me somewhat, fantasy or no. People sometimes treat you differently when they think you a girl - don't know why :P

Yeah Roegadyn are pretty scarce so you will be way less likely to end up being anyone's twin.
