Hopes for Open BetaFollow

With the closing of Beta 3 I was wondering what peoples hopes are for the Open Beta. I would say:

-More quests aside from just the main plot quests.
-More armor, and limitations on armor for different classes so that classes look like their class instead of everyone wearing anything.
-More weapons
-A search function added to the Market system.

Okay so what's everyone else want to see?

love this thread!
I was in closed beta and this is what I want to see fixed:
The aggro system
Make party more desirable (i know already mentioned in interview)
Fix the interface lag
Make the interface quicker to use, too much confirmations needed right now
The targeting is broken
Make mouse smoother
Make the game more optimized for nvidia cards

And please do not speed up combat, its just fine how it is now.

an NPC that gives out recipes for crafts would be pretty nice
More variety in guildleves
better UI, especially while crafting

In open beta, I am hoping to see SE realize what a mistake the fatigue system is, and change it to something reasonable or just remove it.

Also an element in the UI that shows all your previously made recipes, some sort of "Recipe Book" of sorts.

Good idea. +1

It would be even better if you could just click the recipe and it would start the synth as long as you have the needed materials on hand. I know I'm dreaming - but it would be nice.

But that would be waaaaay too much like WoW, and we could never have that. We enjoy using convoluted menus with extra steps that are entirely superfluous. [/sarcasm]

I'd like to see a little more of the storyline - which I imagine we will, given that there will be two new starting cities... though by all accounts, Gridania will be super busy and the other two will be mediocre. New San d'Oria for the win! ;)

So if this sounds like a stupid question I apologise...but having only just finished downloading the beta and obviously not being able to play it due to Phase 3 ending, may I aswell just uninstall it now? Or will the closed Beta just be additional files to install as opposed to brand new ones?

Sorry if this hasn't been worded particularly clearly, but it's 22:55am and I'm tired :(

The things they absolutely have to fix before open beta ends if they don't want this game to flop on launch are the interface (the menu lag, the software mouse, the poor targeting, the bugs, and more) and the player economy. A searchable bazaar system would be a good start on the latter, but even then I think they need something better than the ridiculous market wards. Maybe your retainer could be sent to buy things from the search menu.

The rest is mostly little tweaks that I'm less concerned about.

I'm not at all concerned about entering the Market Wards, just finding stuff. If they just give me a way to find the seller of the item I want, like telling me what Market Ward they are in at the very least, then I'm good.

I hope to be able to gain a better grasp of the atmosphere of FFXIV.

I'm looking forward to seeing the same uniqueness in FFXIV as I found in FFXI. Not the same game, I know, but that wondrous feeling should shine through in every fantasy SE creates.

I would like to see a more streamlined interface. There were way too many menus and prompts to jump through to do anything, especially when crafting. And it would be nice if the game remembers which abilities I had with each class so I'll be able to truly switch classes on the fly without having to re-set all my abilities either manually or with a macro.

And I hope the chocobos get better so the girl (forgot her name) will be willing to rent them out!

Things I'd like to see fixed:

- Menu lag, period. Selling 20 items to a shopkeep should not take 30 seconds per item because I'm waiting for a menu to load. Nevermind trying to scroll my 80+ items to find that recipe material... PAIN.

- Inventory sorting. Please, for the love of gods, move my rat-tails down with the rest of my bait.

- A *little* more hinting in the gathering classes would be nice, like what's depth used for besides moving off a completely mined out section (which is my assumption). Even just some old man with a pickaxe sayin' "Hey, son, if ya don hit somethin at all on your strike, change the height, 'ehhh?" or "Ya want clams son? Drop yer line deeper!". Also some hints in the fishing 'hooking' portion would be pleasant. It's somewhat made up for by constant multiple catches, though.

- The action bar not needing to be completely rebuilt every time I swap a class. **** painful if you get aggro'd while harvesting. This will be especially worse if we start doing in field repairs and you're running two bars of actions. While we're at it, an indicator saying what skills can go cross-class and what's affinitied to the main you're on at the time. And more menu lag issues fixed.

- Targetting friendlies. Do NOT make me untarget the mob to be able to one shot a cure spell off on my tank. That's **** annoying. While we're at it, stop un-targetting the moles when they dive, too.

- /emotes. The list is annoying to scroll through.

- The UI NOT moving to random positions when I set it a certain way. Especially if it keeps crashing like it does. I musta moved that target health meter 20+ times to get it out of the upper left corner.

- Fix replenish on Archer or explain to me when it's supposed to work and when it's not, right now I think it just reloads your pouch from inventory, which is not the description.

- Map waypoints and mini-map arrows. If I'm taking a group somewhere, or I find something interesting on my map, let me mark it so I can show the party and/or just not have to constantly re-map while in aggro territory. It's easy to get turned around sometimes.

- Crafting needs to make more sense in regards to how to deal with chaotic and unstable elements ******** up your qualities and durability. Specifically, the wait command needs to do something besides hurt you.

- While we're at it can get get a LITTLE consistency in crafting for doing stuff 10 ranks under me?

- Levequest exchanges needs more information provided at exchange time. Ittle bittle icons I can't see doesn't help me figure out which ones are 'different'.

- Retainer Market Ward - Start to finish. The booths are a nice touch but what happens when all 40 in a city are bought out? You're in the mob. Maybe force retainers to sell certain items in certain wards (IE: Ward 1: Repair request and armor sales, Ward2: Crafting supplies, Ward3: Leather goods, Ward4: Weapons, etc?)

- If I get one more bone chip mining for some damned copper ore....

- Regiments: 2 things. One, give us a damned HINT what these things do, because it ain't damage, and two, make the initiation non-lag-biased. The queue is an AWESOME improvement over the old timing system, but it needs a LOT more give on the 2x click or it needs to be single click initiated.

- Hate control. There is absolutely no reason a mob should think the mage doing spirit bolts for 23 damage is the primary enemy when the marauder doing 50+ and a TP for 150+ is hitting at the same rate and being utterly ignored, especially when I haven't cured or nuked.

- Increase the archer's range. XI had more distance and it felt more like being an archer then XIV does. Right now there's not enough range to react with a voke/taunt.

- Sell a crappy shield in the shops somewhere for gladiators. Not even having a level 1 shield available for newbies is just damned silly.

There, that about covers my initial reaction to a lot of Beta and what I'd like to see fixed (that's reasonable) in the next 7-10 days. :)

My wishlist, in no particular order:

- Less UI lag
- Searchable Retainers (or an AH would be nice)
- Skills saved when changing jobs so you don't have to manually reassign them or make a macro
- Stronger emphasis on grouping
- Easier to LFP/LFM
- Adjust mobs like Dodos so they aren't insanely overpowered

- I'd like to see crafting streamlined with less menus.
- I'd like less interface lag
- I'd like a workable mouse
- I'd like THE ARROW KEYS ON THE KEYBOARD TO CONTROL THE CAMERA (I personally cannot stand the "i,j,k,l" scheme)
- I'd like upgrades to the linkshell so i could tell who is online and what job and level they currently are
- I'd like less people to make pale characters, it's like walking around surrounded by albino people (not a game issue, just a personal preference =p)
- I'd like a worldwide search function for players/classes (ie: /sea all blm, or /sea all 20-25... a la FFXI)
- I'd like upgrades to the economic functions of the game (auction house, or a workable item search function)
- I'd like a way to be able to craft and find recipes aside from trying to find them online
- I'd like 'hate' to work properly when engaged with mobs
- I'd like to be able to type out my emotes like... /cheer or /wave, instead of having to use a laggy interface menu
- I would like a /sit function (why does my character have to stand 24 hours a day?)
- I would like F1 thru F6 (or higher) to select members of my active party
- I would like a bacon cheeseburger

I think that's all for now! =)

As far as I read, all the current beta testers will automatically be in it. Anyone else I believe they are having another application process.

Also, to add to the thread. Brady Guide people, DO NOT base your guide off of the Open Beta! In Final Fantasy XI War/Whm was a big no. In Final Fantasy XIV... it's okay!

Sadly this is unlikely to happen. Unless it changes in retail you can use the exact same given or surname as anyone else. So if there was...

Sephiroth Iskool
Sephiroth Iheartu
Sephiroth Omgwtfbbq
Sephiroth Tehchozenone
Sephiroth Joonuub

All the above would be allowed. Works in reverse too:

Thebaconz Sephiroth
Onewingdangl Sephiroth
Bigsword Sephiroth
Killaerith Sephiroth
Nooriginality Sephiroth

Would still be allowed. Essentially you could have an entire world of characters named Sephiroth and as long as one letter is different in each one's surname then it would be allowed. All we're likely to see is a sort of "nickname" system like I think someone mentioned around here somewhere.

Anyway, what I'd like to see in the beta is more custom options. Looking at the FFXIV website it looks as if you should be able to change the color of your undergarments. In fact in character creation their colors vary depending on race (Miqo'te have white for Sun, dark grey for Moon.) yet when in-game your garments appear a different color than what's available by race.

Quite a few things... But when I think about my biggest annoyances...

- Tab should not select yourself. Also, the order in which tab selects is just... I dunno, there doesn't seem to be any logic behind it. It was often faster to just click on someone with the laggy cursor than tab through to people.
- More weapons from NPCs. No one crafted weapons on the server I chose... I saw a level 7 wand, a sword, and shields. That was it.
- Damage difference between enemies fixed a little... Enemies in the same level range should not be THIS different in difficulty/strength.
- Naturally, some way to search bazaars. On a related note, fix the retainers. >.> I didn't see ONE, and as far as I had read, people were having trouble with them.
- More options when creating your character. This is my thing. More!
- More quests.
- Better keyboard shortcuts, or better customize options. Or both. Whatever. This includes the shortcut for responding to /tells! Typing out some of these names every time is ridiculous... No wonder people weren't that social. :x
- And of course, fix the mouse and UI response time.

Yeah, that's what I was talking about.

The first time you "/t Sephiroth", it will ask you which one you mean. Then once you tell it "I meant Sephiroth Iheartu", you can assign that person a nickname, say *******************

Then from that point on, "/t ************* would be sent to Sephiroth Iheartu.

That's how Tanaka and his cute translator chick were explaining it anyway.

Just some I can think of:

- Customizable controls: (if they don't set up the keyboard style how I liked in FFXI, then at least let me do it)

- Better Mouse support: personally I prefer to use the keyboard almost exclusively, but I have a couple buds interested in trying this game and I know they both will want to use the mouse primarily.

- A recipe list for crafting: at least save what we have created to a list so we're not jumping on the net with a list always open to craft. Even better if they allow you to create the item from the recipe list so long as you have the materials, but like someone else said, probably wishful thinking.

- Dropping off higher ledges: La noscea (spelling?) is a huge, vast and detail enviroment. There are a lot of times where it would be nice to be able to drop off some of the ledges that aren't too terribly high off the ground, I don't expect falling from 50 foot drops, but it would be nice if we could get a bit more height on dropping off ledges.

- UI/Menu lag: I almost didn't put this since they have said this is something they are working on, but I would like to see this being even less of a problem or gone altogether come OB.

- Search options for market wards: Either search parameters for market wards or organize them based on the products being sold would greatly help finding what you need. The thrill of hunting through people's bazaars gets old quickly, lol especially coupled with the menu lag.

- Another DoM class: Considering there was an arcanist guild in limsa lominsa and from the .dat mining that was done a while back on BG, its very safe to assume there will be an arcanist class at some point in the game. And while i'd like to see more classes in general, (musketeer comes to mind as well) I think that considering there are currently only 2 DoM classes adding in the arcanist before release would give DoM a little bit more options playing a caster based class, doubt i'll see it but hey its a wishlist isn't it? XD

Overall I want to say I still HIGHLY enjoy playing this, I had a ton of fun for what little time on beta I had. There are some things that definitely could use some polish and a couple ideas that draw a general wtf, but overall the positives to me outweigh the negatives and i'm still just as eager as I have been to play the full retail.

I'd like THE ARROW KEYS ON THE KEYBOARD TO CONTROL THE CAMERA (I personally cannot stand the "i,j,k,l" scheme)

Yes, very important. Why control movement with two hands when you can easily do it with one. This was driving crazy during beta play.

You and me both, so long as it either goes the FFXI route or more ideally allow you to fully customize the controls then its a non issue though, and something I don't really see as being that troublesome for them to do.

Sorry I didn't read through the thread, so I'm not sure if someone mentioned these already, but here's my list:

DoM:
- A better way, or more ways to regen MP. I don't see why it can't be regen just like HP.

- Easier to switch between targets, either switching to another mob or other party members.

DoW:
- Easier targeting system as mentioned above.

- Fix the bug or lag on action bar, sometimes when the skill showed it's at 00:00 cool down but the skill still wouldn't be available to use.

- A way to save abilities/skills on the action bar besides setting up a macro for each class.

- Make the character be able to keep running while toggle between Passive and Active mode.

DoL:
I'd only tried miner and botanist, so I'm not gonna talk about fishing.

- When I started mining, there're two parts in the mini game. First I could select how deep I wanted to dig, then second was how much power I wanted to use. Personally, I didn't feel any difference for selecting different value for the first meter. I was thinking the deeper you dig, you may get different items but it's harder to succeed. However, I was getting copper ores, worms, sea sand and items no matter how deep I dig. So I hope they can make something different.

DoH:
- In the material menu, add a new button so that when a player clicks on it, it'll show all the items the player has successfully made before, so if he wants to make the same thing again, he can just select that item and the system will fill in the materials for him.

- Have an in-game manual or something that explains the status of the crystal after each round.

General:
- Add a "sort" function to our inventory bag, both auto sort and manual sort are needed. In the beta, if I want to change my weapon, I had to open up my gear interface, move my cursor (I was playing with PS3 gamepad), select my main hand, then go through my inventory one by one to look for another weapon/tool to equip.

- Simplify the buy and sell process. I remembered when I was selling something, I had to select the item, then the next window popped up asking how many of the item I wanted to sell, but the cursor was at the "Sell" button, so I had to move the cursor up to the number, then press O (my confirm button), then I could only use up and down arrow to change the number (it would be nice if I could use "left" to indicate minimum, "right" to indicate maximum), then press O again, and then move my cursor back to the "Sell" button, and I had to press O two more times to finally sell my item.

That's all I can think of for now.

As everything I'd want has already been stated very well:

I'd like for Open Beta to be as close to the planned Retail Relase (features/bugfix wise) as possible. I'd like for us to get a true sampling of how things will be. Or at least something very close to this. I realize some things are going to change from OB -> Release.

The first time you "/t Sephiroth", it will ask you which one you mean. Then once you tell it "I meant Sephiroth Iheartu", you can assign that person a nickname, say "Dipsh*t"

Guild Wars had this, except with no nicknames. It would just give you a drop down list when you typed the first name.

This would be great, and I think it will at least be closer. However, the point of beta is not for us to "sample" the game.
