OK, so I'm aware as of late that the posting of recorded video of FFXIV beta gameplay is forbidden. Gotcha. But once it's available I'd really like to start recording some of my adventures and starting a Youtube account with all of my good times from day 1 forward. I used the trial fraps once or twice while playing XI, but never bought it/used it much. To those that own it, do you think it was a good buy or are there better video recording services? Just wondering before I drop $37 (which I don't have thanks to the PC I had to buy for this smh). Fraps sounds like the most well known, but well known doesn't equal the best!

You're on Allah, just posting can be turned into an argument.

Worked well enough for me on FFXI, at least, though I didn't shop around much on video (trialed another app or two for screen capture and likes Fraps best, and later bought the full version for full-res video capture for events).

I never used fraps to record so not sure how good it is but waaay back when, I used fraps to take screenshots and camtasia to record for ffxi. It is a good recording program. I was happy with it. http://download.cnet.com/Camtasia-Studio/3000-13633_4-10665109.html

The link is a 30 day trial but... there are some...

I did have the retail version of fraps for FFXI but have since stopped my subscription only because I stopped playing FFXI over a year ago. From what I remember, as I posted video of FFXI on Youtube too (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLw6bicx_E4 :)) you still have to edit etc but the ability to take screenshots using Jpeg is much better and retail fraps allows better framerates I think? I'll have to double check next time I'm on. Since I'm only in beta and don't want to break NDA I haven't taken any video that I would use public, if I did when retail comes out I would go for Fraps retail :)

Hope this helps.

The restrictions that I recall were that you could only record at half-resolution for a max of 30 seconds at a time, and of course you'd have a watermark (as you'd expect for any trial version). Not sure about framerate limits (I don't remember any, but that doesn't mean there weren't :).

Buy it, don't pirate. Seriously, it's a one time payment for lifetime updates. Totally worth it, I use it all the time. The video comes out in raw format so you will need to encode it, windows movie maker works well for noobs like me, but then I purchased the DivX stuff and it works really well too. Not free though like movie maker.

I bought Fraps about 3 years ago. I really like it. It's simple, and you can update it for free for life. Totally worth it. Besides, buying it pays for the development, so when a new OS comes out, a new Fraps comes out for it.

First rule about t... is you don't speak about t... about it!!!

Anyway, second let me second the recommendation on camtasia, it's a good soft, a bit lighter than fraps, and with better support for 64 bits.
