Beta slow download...kill me!Follow

I know I know phase 3 has ended, but I'm still supposed to download the Beta client right?! I've been here for about 7 hours now, and it's at 0.1% with an average download speed of 6.8Kb/s Remote Connections:55 and Local Connections: 4 (not that I know that any of that means)...I got so sick of waiting I attempted the whole Utorrent approach (whilst still running the official download client). Anyway, I've downloaded all of the torrents and they are now 'patch files' but that hasn't changed anything...what do I do now with the torrents? AND/OR how can I make the official client faster! Sorry for the unoriginal topic...:(

To make your client go faster, basically you need to do 2 things (if you're running win7, 3 for winxp)

1. Open the correct port for the downloader, here are the steps for it:
  • Run the FFXIV Config file (it should reside in your Program Files(x86) > Square Enix > FFXIV Beta folder), click on General, make sure the UPnP is Enable (default is Auto) and remember the port number right below it (usually 55296)
  • Log into your router and go to port forwarding (different router has different term to call this, so if you don't know how to do it on yours, post the brand name and model of your router), open this port to your computer (make sure you get your ip right)

2. Open the DMZ port (you may try the first step first, if it's still kinda slow, do this one, if the speed is acceptable after doing the first step, then skip this step), you can do it by going into your router, look under the Wireless section and under DMZ tab. Point it to your ip. It's not very safe to keep this open all the time. You should turn it off once you're done downloading.

For winxp, you'll have to turn on the UPnP function, I don't have any instruction on this, but you can easily google it.

I'll get my brother to check out the router/port situation tomorrow. Thanks. So is the general consensus that we will all need a brand new client for the open beta? Or is it a case of simply no one knows?

If you're still having issues, try the port forwarding suggestions in this thread. I found a video on youtube to explain how to do this for my specific router, and the whole client took me maybe 4-5 hours late last night.

Hope it helps.

I don't know about this. I think we can still use our client, but probably need to download an update.

I might suggest that part of the reason might be because there are no peers sharing files. . .because the beta's offline?

I was worried about that too when I started my download last night, but it was pretty fast after I did the port forwarding. I didn't seem to have any problems finding peers (maxed out at about 50). After about 20-30 min, I never went below 100kb/s, and for most of it, I was OVER 9000!!! ...er, I mean over 200.

Well I did initially use the utorrent approach, I downloaded the torrents and then hit a wall...I didn't know what to do with them!..So in the end I just used the official client..and after messing around with the port forwarding I'm now at 58.5%! Running at about 170Kb/s, not perfect but a billion times better than it was, thanks for all the help guys.

I also have a terrible download speed... most of the time it's 0kbps, and it will occasionally spike over 600 but then quickly fall down to >10 and then 0. I've gotten up to 80.8% in 24 hours and it's been stuck there for a long time.

So, I tried going into the ffxiv config but - when I open that, I just get a popup alert in japanese, click OK and that's it. There's nothing to configure, I don't know what port it's using. WTF

Any suggestions?

I was able to download the entire beta since they made it available. I received my beta key last night, played for a little while and then went to bed.

I woke up with my internet unavailable and quickly resolved that to find that all my port forwarding information had been deleted. I didn't think anything of it until I tried playing FFXIV this morning for a little bit before work, only to find that they had released another version update.

I started it up without any port forwarding and my 3rd party firewall still up. It quickly shot up to 200kb/s and put me at 47% before the download speed fell to 0% again. I decided to open up the ports again after that.

But now I have a new problem that I haven't seen anyone talk about. My local and remote connections are opening up and they keep climbing the longer I keep the downloader open. But I have 0b/s for upload and download speeds!

Can anyone help? I don't know what is going wrong.

Edit: I should add that when it downloaded to 47%, I had 0 remote and local connections.
