It doesn't look like a gunblade to me, and please, we don't need more encouragement for people to name their characters Squallcloudlockheart.

I wonder if anyone will make a Linkshell called "Radiant Glory"? And if anyone will make a rival/nemesis LS "Heinous Oblivion"? "Sign of Surcease" would also be a cool LS name which would puzzle a lot of people I'm sure.

I can't help thinking about Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure with some of those lines...especially "Heinous Oblivion"

I'm sorry (I'm 94% sure that I'll receive a rate down) but I can't stand singing in video games. The music is this trailer is OK, but the lyrics... ugh.

I hope SE doesn't take a cue from FF13 and put lyrics over the chocobo song again; forget surplus xp, messing with the chocobo song is a deal breaker.

I have to admit though, that judge type character with that 'gunblade' is pretty cool. I hope there are a lot of major battles on airships!

Come on SE, this is 2010 - pre-rendered CGI doesn't count, especially when you're using it for basically all the really interesting and exciting parts, and some of the cinematography was really bad anyway. And the combat gameplay footage itself was unimpressive.

People who have never played an MMO are going to cancel their account when they find out that leveling is actually whack-a-mob and not exploding airships and giant dragons that shoot lighting.

MMO players know what to expect but the demographic they are targeting doesn;t and they are going to get ****** off when they find out that they have been lied to.

It's not always bad but it's usually bad.

Nier actually got it right by using a made-up art language that just sounds good but doesn't actually mean anything.

(yes Nier was that game with the hermaphrodite chick that Square Enix released earlier this year)

Except a lot of the people at least know what final fantasy is all about already. It's not like when Mass Effect came out and some people probably thought it looked kinda like Halo and bought it. I think I remember seeing forums with people ******** about that. But Final Fantasy is well known. My friend's who never play Final Fantasy know it as "Those games you love where you don't really control your character??" It really shouldn't fool that many people. Never know these days though...

On the music, it wasn't my cup of tea, but I think it served its artistic purpose. A slow-starting emotional intro showing the peaceful world of Eorza, people walking & going about their business for the 1st half, and then wham! Time for WAR! Perhaps art is wasted on your average consumer, but I thought it was pretty good...

I agree though I'd rather have opera house 'singing' like in FF6 than anything else really. I wish I was joking.

Here's my criteria for lyrics: They have to either be vague, non-existent or very good. The last one is reserved for very good lyricists. Something that most musicians can't pull off anyway. All the money in the world or even the best singer in the world can't fix shoddy lyrics.

You mean Final Fantasy fans? you're not giving them enough credit. sleep easy though, they'll be just fine figuring this out on their own...not one trailer since the turn of the century has done anything different than what SE did with this one...I just see some spotlight hogs who are running out of options here.

I agree with no singing in games in general. But there have been a few exceptions for me in the past. I loved Eyes On Me in VIII.

Yes but you see in FFXIV they have magic triggers that respond to one's thoughts without having to physically touch the trigger. That or a wizard did it >.>

The song definitely makes much more sense in this trailer than it did in the opening Limsa scene, imo. Giant Leviathan-looking thing jumps over a ship... let's say "Walk free" a few times... yeah, that's fitting.

Aside from the song (which I don't think is THAT bad) the trailer itself makes me interested to see where the story is heading. Should be intriguing!

I'm very sad that the little bit of the Ul'dah area they showed looked like frikking tahrongi canyon :*(

WoW has been really successful and I don't think people who didn't play MMORPGs before that or were just Warcraft players thought the battle would be the way it is there and it worked out.

Also I liked the song at the beginning, at first I didn't really like the first half(as I posted before) but when I watched it a second time to show my wife I thought it was really good. Whoever is singing sounds really good too. Also I loved that they had Leona Lewis singing the song at the end of FFXIII, it went with the scene really well and it sounded great.

Nice attempt at figuring out the lyrics, though you did have a few minor mistakes. Been looking around for someone to have figure out the lyrics to no avail so...here's my shot at it but I figured I'd attempt to do the whole song and not just what was used in the trailer. Lyrics I couldn't make out at all have *?* in their place and any line I'm not sure on are commented next to in (). I only focused on the main vocalist as it's hard to make out what the background choir is singing (and I believe they are singing english Magnesium).

[Male Vocals]
I Close my eyes
Tell us why must we suffer
Release your hands
For for your *?* *?* *?*
My *?* *?*
Tell us where must we wander
How can we carry on
if the end shortly on us (line really hard to make out)

[Lead Vocalist]
To all of my children
In whom life flows abundant
To all of my children
To whom death hath passed his judgment
The soul yearns for honor
And the flesh the here-after
Look to those who walked before
To lead those who walk after

Shining is the lands light of justice
Ever flows the lands well purpose
Walk free
Walk free
Walk Free
Believe
The lands alive
So believe

Feel, Pray, Teach, Hear
Feel, Thank, Teach, Speak
Speak, Tell, Tell, Hope
Hope, Wish, Wish, Run
Roam, Roam, Run, Live
Sleep, Sleep, Sleep on

Now open your eyes
while our plight is repeated
Still death to our cries
Lost in hope we lie defeated
Our souls have been torn
And our bodies forsaken
Bearing sins of the past
For our future is taken

War born of strife
These trials sway us not
Words without sound
These lies betray our thoughts
Not by a plague of doubt and sheep horns (line really hard to make out, most likely not right lol)
Judgment binds all
we hold to a memory of scorn
Tell us why given life
We are meant to die
Help us in our cries

Witness suffer *?* reason
Follow suffer *?* listen
whisper shoulder *?* *?*
Answer
Answer
Answer together

Thy life is riddle
To bear rapture and sorrow
To listen to suffer
To entrust until tomorrow
In one fleeting moment
From the land doth life flow
Yet in one fleeting moment
For the new year doth glow (line probably not right)
In the same fleeting moment
Thou must live die and know

After listening to the male voices some more, I believe the line is "For your mere grand asunder." and I'm starting to lean towards "My legs won't hide". During the female vocal part the second Praise is certainly incorrect could possibly be "thank". The last two words that we've yet to figure out are probably going to be **** near impossible to make out and we'll have to sadly wait until the album is released at the end of September. Smiley: frown

*Edit*
Notice another possible mistake on both our parts. "Still deaf to our cries" makes a little more sense in context than death >.<

Oooh, thanks for clearing that up. I just heard deep slow male voices and hearkened back to FFVIII's Liberi Fatali. And I also was focussing on the female's words. I'll have to listen to the full song sometime and see what I can hear ^__^

Wow! Excellent trailer, it really does get you excited for the game. Even the very end with the classic FF theme playing as the dates are on-screen.

Judges? Gunblades? Could SE be tapping into it's history for things in the game?
I always thought that they missed the boat in FFXI by not naming things with a nod to past titles. How many Dark Knights would have wet themselves to use a Buster Blade? Would it have been impossible to name Heavan's Tower, Balamb Garden? Little things like that.

I think "for your mere grand asunder" is closer (asunder sounds good) but still doesn't seem right, the rest of the language in the song is cleaner...
"My legs won't hide" is what I FIRST thought but I wasn't sure it made sense...
Your probably right about the second praise, i think I just saw a pattern and ran with it.
And lastly I 100% agree to "Still deaf to our cries" that's *perfect*
