So a question to the beta players.

Is there a certain Race to fit a certain class?
Any no no's?

Cheers for the help

no there isn't. All races can play all classes equally. So play whatever class you want with whatever race you desire :)

As of beta 3, all races begin with 15 points in every stat. No race has any edge over another.

Beards, however, increase STR by 5.

Completely true however one thing I noticed....and its only personal preference this...was that when you pick the larger Races (Elezen and Roegadyn) when fighting, sometimes the mobs are more obscured by your character model, especially the smaller ones, which can make things a little harder to target, even if you have your camera completely zoomed out.

But nothing to discriminate them apart from personal taste.

I know this is only a small thing but I thought I'd mention it as some people may consider this more important than others.

I kinda like racial stats to be honest. It adds more character to... well the character in my opinion. Ah well, I am probably the only one. :3

Not at all. Thats why I created this thread hoping there would be differences... it makes creating a character really pointless from a gaming aspect. Its just looks =\

I actually like the race differences in 11 aswell. I mean sure I love how you can adjust your stats in this one to your taste but I wouldn't of minded if they did in 14 what they did in 11.

Yeah, I like how you can add points too (be nice if I knew what they did) but I like racial stats as well. Take the Elzeen for example, talking about how they have super keen ears and eyesight... why not a little bonus for bowed weapons or something?

Im not trying to open a can of worms, I just like racial stuff that makes the characters a little more unique in the sense of picking a race.

I personally hated racial stats. In ffxi, I chose a hume because I wanted a character like myself. Little did I know that since I was focusing on almost SOLELY melee classes, a hume was not really the best choice. That's why I'm kinda glad ffxiv doesn't do racial differences so far... even though this time I'm playing a Rogaedyn lol.

Honestly, I'm glad there are no racial stat benefits this time around... I'd hate feeling like I was permanently inferior in any way just because I created my character to look the way that was most appealing to me. I think that lore and appearance should be enough to distinguish the races as individual without it determining your proficiencies. But maybe that's just me!

Yeah this was making me rethink choosing Roegadyn... it is also harder to navigate tight corners and stuff... the big hunking oaf. In the next phase of beta I am going to try Hyur because although I loved my Roegadyn things like this were annoying and it felt slower when moving (even though it isn't)

You can still make an elvaan who's super good at melee and sucks at magic, just dump all your points into STR AGI and VIT.

I didn't mess around with this much myself, but did you make your roegadyn the tallest version or shortest? And did it seem to even matter much?

They didn't have short and tall options as far as I know.

I made a short hyur and it was much nicer to move around with.

Yeah there was a height option in there with 5 values from shortest to average to tallest...somethin' like that

yeah there was with the other races I rolled but I didn't notice that option when I rolled roegadyn. I may have been just too excited to pay much attention

Very understandable, I may mess with it in the open beta, but I'm thinking the shortest roegadyn will still be massive and the tallest lalafell will still be tiny...

They had height options for rogaedyn. I know because I chose the tallest height. Figured a dude holding a giant great axe should be pretty tall. >.>

Oh, and I had zero problems navigating or targeting with the height. I was using a controller and I'm so used to the camera controls from ffxi its like second nature.

-So no RSE gear this time around?-

I'm going along with this line of thought. Just because there are no racial STATS doesn't mean that there wont be race specific equipment (RSE) which will probably be based of the character descriptions.

Do certain classes run faster? I swear I was being left in the dust by a Taru the other day.

No, if you see someone running faster than you it either has to do with lag or illusion. In FFXI, if you played a Taru you looked like you were running faster than you did if you played an Elvaan simply because you had shorter legs and had to take more strides to cover the same distance in the same time as an Elvaan.

Or they are using an ability. The DoL classes have an ability that increases run speed to get to new mining/botany locations. I think there are a couple DoW/DoM classes that have a movement speed ability also.

Or you never put away your weapon and are still in active mode, that slows ya down quite a bit...I lost the race to some mob spawns because of that. The flee bonus to the dowse ability for fisher and whatever it's called on the others is pretty awesome. And yea, tarus/lalfells always look like they're faster to me...

Also, with shorter characters the camera is closer to the ground, which increases the feeling of speed.
