Hi! First post, but I've been stalking from the sidelines for a week or two now. (:
Question. As we are all familiar with RPG's and such that re-use monster models that vary in color and slight differences (and slightly different name too).. I am curious whether or not this is present in FFXIV and how often would you say you've seen them so far in the game?
I definitely am expecting to see some if I ever get to play beta or retail.. but it's not a biggie to me unless I see it too often.

Yes they are reused with different colours and minor changes; however, there is supposedly a wide variety of different monsters, so it shouldn't be as bad as it was in FFXI.

Not gonna lie, there are several re-used monster models. Some have a different color, or a few little differences.

Raging Ram = Lost Wether
Vulture = Buzzard = Carrion Crow
Qiqirin Scrambler = Qiqirin Mercenary
Wharf Rat = Plains Rat
2 or three jellyfish
crabs that come in red and green
Nix = Toxic Toad = V-something
and so on...

However, there were lots of different monsters in the beta, so even though models are reused there is still plenty of variety!

...And anyone well versed in FF lore, is not surprised to see anything they've seen previously before. Final Fantasy games have always been "unrelated" to previous entries in the series, yet still retain many familiar themes/characters/monsters. I've seen Goobues on my first day in the game, and right away I wanted to toss a sneak, before I realized I was in a new game. Am I mad to see the same Monster I've been farming for 5 years in my new game? No, not really. There will be alot of new stuff to be seen in XIV, enough to outweigh the old.

Personally, I can't wait to see how they work in "Cid" into XIV. (FFVII Cid for the win!)

I don't care for the new Eft. the FFXI ones are awesome, new ones look jsut like the salamanders and they are ugly.

Yeah, there are at least 4 different colored crabs i have seen, might be more. Red, Blue, Green, Yellow/Brown

Gobbues are my favourite so far, the detail is just stunning. You can see all the wrinkles in the skin and the tree sapplings on their heads are casting shadows :O, they also got all sorts of moss growing on them. Really amazing artwork.

All the beastmen and humanoids also look fantastic. Qiqirin are exactly the same as in FFXI just high resolution and more detail.

I really hope some Mandragoras make there way to XIV. I like when they say "Uh OH!" when you miss them.

Knowing the developers working on the game, most likely.
