I don't know. I hear it's going to be the same as FF XI. However, i use a prepaid credit card for ALL online purchasing. I got mine through Netspend. It works with Final Fantasy, and it's a safer alternative to using a bank card on the internet. I think it costs like 20 bucks to get one.

I will be severely disappointed if FFXIV does not have an option to pay by paypal.

I'd prepare for being severly dissappointed then. I highly doubt SE will have paypal as a payment option.

Wish there was something like Netspend for Europe.

Google prepaid credit cards, and maybe you will find one that is. At least try before you give up. :)

I'm curious to find out which Netspend card you folks are using, because mine certainly is not VbV, and it's brand new as of January after using the service for five years now. It's why I don't play XI anymore as well, since my old card expired and once that happens, you're not able to enter the new information in PlayOnline due to it not being supported by VbV. I'm guessing that you've been able to use your cards due to their expiration dates, but once those cards expire, you'll have to either call PlayOnline, or find a different card.

If you know otherwise, I'd love to hear it.

The rumor is that SE will be dropping the absolute DISASTER known as VBV/MC securecard for FFXIV.

If that miracle of uncommonly good sense happens, any pre-paid credit card SHOULD work with the game.

Someone at one point even linked an overseas website that was selling pre-paid game time cards. . though whether or not this comes to pass remains to be seen.

Just because your card doesn't support vbv, doesn't mean you can't use it. All it means is you would actually need to call up and have a Square-Enix support rep add the card manually. The process took all of 5 minutes when I switched FFXI billing over to my Chase card.

I'm severely hoping that they drop VBV/MC secure card. I bought the FFXI collection a month ago for 10 bucks (cheaper than buying WotG and newer content that i missed after I quit during ToAU), and I STILL can't create an account because their secure card system is so borked.

Plus, I would think that S-E will definitely go the prepaid card method if they are trying to be open to more casual players. I would think it'd be in the same area as PSN's cards that are set at certain increments.

There's another really hot topic going around right now about SE dropping a very bad and much hated idea in the interest of their player base. I won't say what it is, because I'm really mentally . . .fatigued. . . about it, but it's just another shining example of how SE doesn't listen to their fanbase.

Even when the ideas are no brainer common sense good ones :)

According to the SE account management site https://secure.square-enix.com/account/app/svc/newsdetail?newsid=567296314ea762adf003d8c945ec02f2bb337cba they're "adding a variety of payment features and more."

Awesome find! This should be good news for everyone. I hope they get it right this time!

Maybe they realize that getting Cletus off facebook and onto their game is going to require slightly easier payment methods ;)

I wonder if they'll offer "free" gametime in trade for extensive "customer surveys". .

I played all my ffxi time for the past few years on a greendotonline mastercard. Works fine, only kink in the deal is that now on ffxi you need one of those secure cards or w/e from the manufacturer, ive no clue how to do that. But if you just go on ps2 you can get around that part when putting the card in.

Will ffxiv require the secure cards or w/e, no idea. Hopefully not cause i dig my prepaid card, and there isn't a ps2 to get around the problem this time.

meh missed the post that already had the s-e member info about variety of changes. But it gets my hopes up a little bit that they will accept non-VbV and Mastercard Securecard payments.
