don't be suprised ifFollow

Hi All,

So this might be a little pessamistic, but I personally would not be suprised if in December/January SE gave a Press release stating that the planned release of FFXIV for PS3 has been canned and will never happen.

Now before I get Karma bombed to small particles of dust by all the rabid PS3 owners, I too am a PS3 owner and I don't have a PC (I have a mac but a mac can't run FFXIV either). So why would I say such mean things considering I am only going to be able to play FFXIV on PS3.... well If I remember correctly FFXI was initially developed for PS2 and then later ported to PC. Ever since NA release of FFXI all I ever heard was the SE could do this that or the other due to PS2 limitations. This time around FFXIV is/was being developed for both PC and PS3 and already we have the PS3 limitations card being played..... I just think that SE is trying to release a MMO thats going to be as cutting edge as possible upon release for PC (their main market) and if PS3 can't keep up then to bad so sad for them/me. I am an avid PS3 user and I also love MMO's and I have noticed that develoers of MMO's genuinely intend to bring their product to the console market but when all is said and done it doesn't happen because the tech in the PS3 is static wheras the tech in a PC can be upgraded to be cutting edge and what developer wants to release an MMO with a hopeful 5+ year life span with tech constaints that are already 3 - 4 years old already?

Anyway I hope I am wrong and this were delaying FFXIV release for PS3 until March 2011 isn't the prelude to canacelation.

one thing you're not accounting for is that NA players are PC players and JP players (their most loyal, plentyful, hardcore base) is made up of PS3 players. From what I understand, JPs that play on the PC mostly hang out in internet cafes to play FF. Those guys are no doubt waiting for the PS3 version so they can port their character over to it when the PS3 version releases. On the flip side, SE is also pretty loyal to their JP fan base as well. I don't see them scrapping the PS3 simply because they know they are going to get their majority of JP subscribers from the ps3.

I wouldnt bet a nickel on anything that has to do with SE but i just dont see this happening. A possibility yes, but they will get stuff worked out.

I will be playing at PC release and will be buying a copy for the ps3 as well when/if it comes out. But in all reality as bummed as i would be if it were somehow to get canceled i would kind of breathe a sigh of relief. Because SE could NEVER then say "Sorry PS3 limitations".

Don't get me wrong i want it to come out on PS3 just as bad as some of you that will only be able to play on the console but there just wouldn't be an excuse in making the game better.

Not saying it couldn't happen, but if it did, I think it would be the absolute last resort of SE. PC and PS3 versions were, originally, going to launch simaltaneously. So SE has been planning on PS3 players being part of their demographic from the very beginning. I don't see them just cutting off half their fanbase. If it got cancelled, something would have had to gone REALLY wrong.

I highly doubt they're just going to scrap it.

after working on it for about 4 years & spending all the money they have spent to make it come to both pc & ps3 they would have scraped it long ago if it was not going to happen! i would say i will be released or would have canceled it by now.

Highly unlikely and I'd go so far as to say never happen.
In the worst case scenario they'd release it looking like FFXI but I think they're trying to work it to an acceptable decent standard before they settle for any sort of compromise.

This.

The JP playerbase is far too important, I'm actually suprised they will be releasing the PC version first. There is no way they would can console versions, any othe rcompany yes but not SE. Even if they have to make it look crap they will still release it.

The PC version is actually in their eyes the least important version of the 2.

Solve your problem easy. Sell your PS3 and sell your mac. Get something that can actually be upgraded unlike the mac. Mac's are set to the standards that they feel is fit for you. Which could mean that they give you a bunch of software and programs and capabilities that you won't ever use. You can't upgrade them. They are a piece of crap but that's just my opinion and don't let it derail the thread. I'd seriously say just sell it all and get a PC that is upgradable.

Considering that S-E has put a rather substantial amount of time/money/resources into developing the game. Add into that they also put a rather high requirement for PC gamers to play with the fact that it's supposed to be more casual player friendly (i.e. more than likely will be ps3 owners or people with lower end PC rigs). I HIGHLY doubt they scrap the game on PS3. At the very most, they will delay it further while tweaking it.

First few months of PC launch will basically be pay to play beta testing. Anyone that joined an MMO first day will understand what I mean by that too.

*edit* People also are completely overreacting about the texture issue for the ps3 anyways. It created a hurdle, and S-E will figure out a way to get it working on the PS3. Will PS3 version be lower quality than a high end rig running it full spec on 1080p? Duh. But it won't be looking like a psx game either. Consoles tend to be cheaper than most computer rigs for a reason.

They're not. No way would SE just snub that huge of a percentage of their Japanese playerbase.

I was thinking that a cancellation of the PS3 version might be on the horizon too. After watching the newest trailer, and seeing the PS3 release mentioned at the end, I feel a little bit better.

no, they wont scrap the ps3 version.

come **** or high water they will bring it. they will dumb down the PC version even more if they got to, just to maintain compatibility with what ever they do come up with in the ps3 launch.

its sad that this game is already being held back by the playstion even before its released. Like ff11, and even more so this time, dont expect any modernization with the interface/UI/*** as the years go on.

Actually I heard they WERE going to scrap the PS3 version. . they found a more powerful console that's easier to program for and not quite as expensive!

It's called "Commodore 64. . . . . "

Sony can't crush anyone. Hardware companies need 3rd party support, especially big game companies like Square. If a big 3rd party developer like Square switches everything to Wii & XBox, it will directly affect Sony's hardware sales.

I don't see SE saying "Sorry potential PS3 players. Sucks to be you."
I don't think that it's impossible for something like that to happen of course, I just think that it would be very unlikely and a very poor financial decision, at least IMHO.

This post made me very sad as I'm one of the PPL waiting for the PS3 version so i can play. I highly highly doubt it will get canceled, maybe pushed back some more (even tho I'm hoping for a breakthru and a earlier release on PS3) but I rly hope not. I know the PS3 hardware is old but I'm sure the game will look nice and crispy on the PS3 no matter what.

Never happen. Sony is too busy nerfing hardware features and destroying it's customer base to pay attention to software concerns.

The new casuals who love ff series but didnt go on ffxi that they are marketing the game to, are mostly ps3 users, na and jp, so i doubt they wont release, if anything that is thier most important people.

Don't think SE can't play the PS3 not supporting card people. Same way they dropped the bomb on us at E3 about the PS3 being delayed they can just as easily, say no longer supporting the PS3. Thing about it is how long are they going to play dumb, if they want to make this move when will they announce it? How will the customers respond to it? Is it better to do it before launch of the PC version or after? Should they wait about a month before the PS3 release date to say ummm...sorry no PS3 release will be made due to limitations.

actualy there would be a greater chance of them canning the pc version before the PS3 version. I dont see either happening you also goto take into account that the game is designed (menus, combat, ect) around console gaming heck even the controls work best with a controller atm. And the fact that our asian friend rather play on consoles.
