Hi,

Ive been reading through and have seem to come to the conclusion, it doesnt matter which race you choose in FFXIV as you all start with 15 of each base stat (stn, dex, vil, ear, fire and so on) unlike FFXI where each different race would have different stats.

Does each race start with different HP/MP? or are any better at 1 job then the next. eg FFXI Taru better but not limited to a mage role.

From the offical FFXIV website
Quote:
Together with the longbow sentries of the Elezen military, the shortbow hunters among the Miqo’te are widely regarded as the most skilled with a bow.

For a ranger, the Elezen or Miqo'te are a better choice?

Sorry if this seems like a stupid question, but im trying to look over everything before the release on the 22nd.

Thanks.

I'm pretty sure that's just lore and has nothing to do with a character's proficiency in-game.

Am I the only one saddened by this? Personally I feel like SE is going WAY out of their way to try to please everyone and address every complaint this time around. But even in WoW, only certain races could be certain classes. So idk why they feel like they HAVE to make everything equal for EVERYONE.

I just don't think it's right that a big giant Rogaedyn could ever be on par as a fighter with a small Lalafell. Like, customize it. It made things a little more difficult in XI when a taru wanted to play a melee or a Galka play a mage, yea this is true, but where each race EXCELLED... they EXCELLED! I'm honestly not happy with the system, but I guess it won't cause any harm if everyone's equal either.

Thing is, the beta didn't include stat differences for races, but will the actual game mirror that? I know I've seen it posted that all races were made equal FOR THE BETA, but will that be the case for actual release? I really can't fathom them having this whole 12 god system in their game without it having some effect on class/race. I don't know, I guess we'll have to see what happens at release, but I think it is a safe bet to assume that there will be at least 1 distinguishable factor on what race/god you chose at launch. It feels like it wouldn't be a ff game without that.

I wouldn't be surprised if SE changed these sorts of 'balanced' things in open beta or even release.

However I thought I read something official (or at least by a designer or someone) that SE purposely didn't want to punish people for choosing a race.

I personally would like to see some race stat discrepancies, Miqote should be quicker, Roegadyn should be stronger...

The starting stats are the same in Beta, each stat starts at 15. They -might- be a bit different by retail, but I don't really see the point in that since at each level up YOU decided which stats to increase anyway. If each stat had a pre-determined increase for each level up like in XI, then there would be a difference in the long run.

If I recall correctly, SE has mentioned a few times in a few different interviews that they don't want the races stats to be so divisive as they were in XI. Based on that, I'm guessing with release there WILL be a different in the stats (ie. Rogaedyn and Elezen will have more str etc.), but they won't be huge and they won't limit people's classes as much as things like HP and MP did in XI. (Not that this stopped people... one of the best blms I knew in XI was a galka).

That might also suggest, based on some of the flavor text on the official FFXIV site, that Hellsguard Roegadyn may have a little more MP than Seawolves because they're more inclined to use magic. Perhaps Sunseeker Miqo'te will also get a stat bonus during daytime, where Keepers of the Moon will get a bonus at night.

In any case, it will be interesting to see how things fall together, with choices like deity and birthday. I'm sure some min-maxer will take the time to find optimum combinations for everbody.

SE doesn't want people to choose races for their stats, so everyone's gonna start off on equal footing. They want people to play what they like.

As far as gods go, its likely it'll just affect the calender, its basically a zodiac system. could affect elements and jobs though.
