Hermes' shoes HELP!!Follow

Ok so I went to Gamestop today and saw the FFXI Ultimate collection on sale for 9.99 so I got it. I don't really care if I wasted my money, I just wanted it for my collection. What I really wanted to know was if I can get the Hermes' shoes since I now have FFXI.
It says that all new characters created will have shoes when created, the accounts need to be linked and neither can be in the trial period. There isn't any end date so I'm guessing this offer will be all year, but I don't want to wait until the trial period is up for XI. Is there anyway to skip the trial period so I can pay bill for XI, link both accounts, get my shoes and then cancel XI? I was also thinking of playing XIV and creating an extra char. after trial period ends for XI, his will also work too right? If it does work and I get shoes can I transfer shoes to my main and delete the extra so I don't hav extra fees? Or will it be extra 3.00 for that month?

Lol I wouldn't suggest that. They get pretty ***** over there when anyone mentions Square-Enix's new baby.

I don't believe there's any way to end the trial period early so unless you had a previous account in FFXI you're stuck until those 30 days are over to get your shoes.

As for the second character, while it's true that he'll get the shoes provided the XI trial period is over, I really doubt that they'll be transferable between characters. IF Square-Enix's goal is to get people to pay for both FFXI and FFXIV it would hurt them to allow people to store a pair of Hermes just in case.

And if it works anything like it did in XI, once you buy that extra slot for a second character it'll cost you for the month, even if you delete it right after.

I'm not sure if this will help, but I started a thread not too long ago about the Hermes Shoes. Someone posted a link about how to link your FFXI account to your square-enix account. This way once your trial period is over you'll be able to get your hermes shoes. The link is somewhere in the thread. Hope this helps!

If I remember right, the trial period is skippable if you haven't activated the account yet. I thought the free trial was actually the buddy pass that let's you play for 30 days free, then you add your other code to open the full game. I thought if you don't use the buddy pass you start paying right away.

Unless they've changed it then, no, the buddy is separate from the actual key. The buddy pass is an account you can give it to a friend or something so they can try the game out without buying a retail copy right away. The retail key will come with a free month regardless of whether you started with a buddy pass or not.

OK, this is where I'm confused and surprisingly I haven't seen anyone mention this. It says neither account can be in its trial period. So that should also mean when I boot up FFXIV on the 22nd, I'm not eligible for these shoes either? I personally find that to be stupid. Unless I'm reading this wrong.

"* Please note that you will not be able to receive a special in-game item in the following cases:
- If you have created a character before linking your PlayOnline ID (It is, however, possible to receive the in-game item by deleting the characters you created, linking your PlayOnline ID, and then re-creating your characters).
- If, at the time of creating your FINAL FANTASY XIV character, the linked PlayOnline ID’s FINAL FANTASY XI Content IDs are invalid (the Content IDs have been cancelled and are thus not being billed).
- If the linked PlayOnline ID’s FINAL FANTASY XI is in the free trial period."

It doesn't say if your FFXIV account is in it's free trial just FFXI. And FFXI starts with 30 days free trial

Buddy passes are for you to give to a buddy of yours so they can try it out for 30 days for free.So in conclusion you'll have to wait a full 30 days AFTER you create and activate your content ID in FFXI ,then activate FFXIV and create a character to get the shoes.

Here is the way to link accounts that was taken from the other thread:

For whoever was unsure how to link their FFXI account to their SquareEnix Account... I literally just typed up instructions for my little sister an hour ago, so here they are.

1. Go to http://member.square-enix.com/na/
2. Click Member Login (top right corner) and put in your info (SE Account Name and pass, one-time password if you use it -- NOT your POL info)
3. When you're logged in click "Account Center" in the top right corner box (or click your portrait and then click the Account Center tab)
4. Click "SQUARE ENIX Account Management System" button on the left side
5. Put in your SE Account/Password again (Again, SE Account Name and pass, one-time password if you use it -- Again, NOT your POL info)
6. On the left side, under "Services and Options", click "Link Settings"

From there you can add a link to your FFXI account using your POL information. Hope that helps.

My question is once you do this will the actual "FFXI" show up in Services, or will it only be your POL name assocaited with your FFXI account?

I think I had to link my FFXI account to the SE site back in March when I bought the security keycode thing, but I am not 100% sure if this actually linked the FFXI account to what I need it to be linked with in order to receive the Hermes' Shoes.... anyone know?

Also, I don't see the $12.95 (to reactivate FFXI) to be a huge amount for me considering I'll get the shoes for FFXIV and be able to talk to some of my old LS beforehand to see which realm they are thinking about going to.... if they are playing FFXIV. I am waiting til the billing maintenance is over on Sept. 1st or 2nd so I don't get charged for two months though...

Just having the link there shouldn't cause FFXI to show up in services. I've had the link in place since they came out with the security token, but I didn't have anything listed under Services. Your account does have to be active to get the shoes though, you can't just have it linked but inactive.

And you should be fine if you did the security token, as it required you to have the link in order for it to work. (That's the only reason I ever made the link in the first place.)

I hope that helps.
