I know it's been discussed a little before, but rather than necro bump a year old thread I figured i would just start a new one. I still haven't seen or read anything about any card games or mini games being implemented. I would really enjoy having something like triple triad or tetra master or even like a board game of some sort that doesn't require logging out to play. I'm not suggesting those EXACT games, but something similar. Something that is quick to play, easy to learn, and has some strategy to it. Need something to do while waiting for a couple party members? Play some cards.

Also the collection factor would be fun if you could trade/sell cards between players. Maybe a vendor that sold random packs of cards. I have played TCG's before and half the fun was the opening of new packs to see what goodies you got, and trying to complete collections.

However I would not want any kind of game (card game or whatever) to be a necessary to player's progression in the game. If you don't want to play or collect it will in no way affect your progression. I just think it would be another fun and addictive feature in the game, and a great way to kill a couple minutes of downtime. Not to mention a little sub-economy in cards via trading and collecting would be kinda cool.

There's a thread about this in the Feedback forum. I don't have much to add that I haven't already added there, but in short I think it's a good idea and I've been advocating it for years.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

FFXI added a mini-game like that based on COR rolls. It can be played in every major town at game tables, usually in pubs. The problem is, no one ever plays it.

I enjoyed playing Tetra Master in IX, however not so much in XI, It could be a solid game if they added it or something similar. Mini-games that have no influence on actual progression are fun, kinda like (dare i speak of it?) the darkmoon fair in WoW where you use remote control battle tanks to shoot each other, or the holiday event minigames similar to it.

I'm all for it. I think most people are for it, or at least, not against it. I often wonder why SE doesn't give it to us. Maybe it's much harder to implement than we think?
Would have been a great way to kill time LFP'ing in XI for sure.

P.S. My vote would be for tetra master, or an equivalent. Random mobs could drop random cards, and NM's could have rare low drop rate bad *** cards. There's so much they could do with it.

I liked triple triad in VIII...hated that same music over & over again, but other than that it was fun...a lot of that might have been because of the good stuff I got from it with the refining abilities. If there was a card game in XIV I might be interested though...

Well the "Trade" button will finally have some use yet! :D

Card game would be great. It's the perfect PvP outlet for people who don't like killing each other (like me.)

I could see the cards being drops if they don't take another items place in the pool. There would be some mad people if they got a card instead of their rare drop if they didnt play.

I'd like to see fun minigames as well, but I'm also sort of glad they're not in the initial launch. The minigames can come later, and not including them allows the developers to focus on more important issues, at least at launch.

In the meantime, just go pay $1 a month to play Tetra Master via PlayOnline. If it's still around, that is. I sure as **** never knew anyone who played it...

Yeah, it would be nice if they added tetra master like in IX. You get a card every once in a while and get to challenge others to games and win their cards...kinda like pogs when I was a kid (which I had always wanted to play but never could).

The reason no one ever played it was because it was a seperate game. I guarantee that it would have been more popular if you could just play with people without having to log out. It would have been a great way to kill a few spare minutes here and there.

See, the thing is I probably would play that $1 extra a month if it was implemented in-game. Thats what killed the popularity of the XI one, the fact that it was implemented outside of the game.

I've fond memories of Ultima Online playing chess against my guild mates in our Large Tower guild hall (we were too small and, well frankly, not good enough to afford a proper castle :P) during our downtime or for half hour before/after guild meetings. Man, I really miss that game...

I really liked the Triple Triad from FFVIII, not so much Tetra from FFIX and FFXI.

Make it ingame, upstairs room in one pub in major city and some towns.

Make an independent drop roll of 1% for every mob killed to drop the respective card. If your looking for an Ice Elemental card, then go farm Ice Elementals kind of thing.

Some type of card game would be nice.

I know a lot of people would prefer it having nothing to do with anything else in the game, but if it doesn't, I don't see a lot of people playing it. Having it affect certain other aspects of the game will encourage more people to play it. For example, apart from the cards being only used in card games, they could also be used as consumables to increase stats. Rare cards could temporarily give you +20 to all stats, and the buff stacks with food and drinks. People could either "trade" cards to get the ones they want and get rid of the ones they don't want, or play the card game with someone, and win, to get what they want without losing anything.

Do you want an integrated minigame in FFXIV?
No I DON'T want this added to the game and mucking up town/culture/monster drops :0 (0.0%)
Yes I want a card game but I can't/don't want to pay extra for it :13 (50.0%)
Yes I want a card game and I'd pay an extra $1 a month as long as it was in-game :5 (19.2%)
Yes I want a card game and I'd pay an extra $3 (if that's what it takes) a month as long as it was in-game :5 (19.2%)
I completely don't care either way.:3 (11.5%)

Depending on how fleshed out the game is, I'd pay $3 a month. Not for something like Triple Triad, but for something like Wizards of the Coast's games (Magic, Pokemon, etc), I totally would. People spend that much on a pack of a dozen cards, and I'd be all about a Final Fantasy trading card game.

Tanaka was actually asked about this in an interview I just saw. The reply was that they are focusing on fundamental parts of the game like the battle system or crafting system right now. :(

I would even pay an extra ($1-3) for a in game card game if it was well fleshed out. As long as it was part of the main game.

Why the sad face?

Main game should come first, mini-game should come later.

Let's get fighting and crafting all spiffy, before we start adding mini-games.

I'd LOVE for them to add this, but not at the detriment of the main game. However I think it will come... they probably noticed that the only time Tetra Master got used in XI was during maintenance, and couldn't/wouldn't find a way to make it playable in game.

Hopefully this will change.

And on the flipside I wouldn't want them to just rush something like this into the main game either, because if it is broken or boring no one is going to play it anyways. I'd rather have a nice polished game implemented in a content update down the road, than a piece of junk rushed to get into the game at launch.

Holy crap, Square needs to implement a full-on casino in one of the cities. Have some new minigames, and even a few "real" casino games like roulette, slots, and blackjack would be cool. Even if the odds were similar to casino odds they could lower market taxes!

Thanks for fixing my poll~
I'd pay up to $3 more a month, And while i want a more polished version (which implies waiting) I don't want to wait! I did hear that Ul'dah has casinos, but I don't know if there's actually games to play there, or if they are just NPC establishments...

Even casino's wouldn't be perfect, because they would require you to be there to participate in the games. I would much prefer to be able to have a quick match anywhere, anytime. The casino would be great as long as you could still play cards everywhere else as well as the casino. The casino could just have other mini games and what not ala the gold saucer. And it would be a great place to meet new opponents and find people to trade with.

How cool would it be if a few times a day there was a chocobo race we could watch and bet on? Any wanting participants could just go to the right private zone (like hawkers alley;) There the NPC would receive bets until the turn of the hour or whatever and then we'd all see a cut scene race. (And collect our winning automatically afterward)

XI had some great mini-games. Pankration, chocobo racing, chocobo breeding, Maze Mongers, chocobo digging, etc etc.

The issue was that they were ALL IN DIFFERENT ZONES.

If you're killing time waiting for shouts/bazaaring, the last thing you want to be doing is sitting in the far east corner of the Colosseum where no one else has been since 2006.

If this game has good global chat channels and a much better search function (that people use), then expect mini-games to be very popular.

Personally, I think Sphere Break would be fun. It was one of the better parts of X-2... and because of how that game went down, it was pushed aside in favour of more popular FF minigames such as Blitzball, Triple Triad, mpking Vaan for being a whiny ****** and so on.
