Like most of you i am comming from FFXI i was thinking about the things i didnt do last time that i can
do this time that might make me a better player. First thing is i am going to try to be more helpfull this time round
o often found myself selfish and was always in it for myself. This time i want to be a different person, somone people in my ls can count on.
Next thing i want to do is play a support class first like a brd or whatever, a job/class that is always needed, getting thoes random /tells for exp. force 'my self to go annon. And last ENJOY and try to not take the damm game so seriously. If i can learn one thing from my first mmo and just chill a little and enjoy things,.

How about you?

If I had that time again I'd spend it not playing FFXI at all.

My plan to not take the game so seriously and have it feel like a job is exactly why I haven't joined an LS altogether. My idea of enjoying the game will be to take full advantage of my a.d.d. playstyle. Though I can be quite helpful at times, I'm also not 100% reliable. Better I avoid signing up to join a group that may have even the smallest of expectations of me besides being social.

While I have some small early plans, I rather have the rest of the game kind of just "happen" to me, meeting strangers, joining /shouts for quests/parties, talking shop with a fisher who's fishing at that secluded spot I thought only I knew about(after threatening him to vacate the premises of course)

I guess my 'plan' is to not have much of a plan at all...
And have fun 1st & foremost...

I plan on not having this happen again....
Sunday and Thursday: Dynamis
Monday and Friday: Salvage
Tuesday and wendsday: Sky farming/gods
Saturday: Try to get lost xp back, and catch up on storyline mission/quests.

Gonna treat this like a game. That's all it is. Also in FFXI I did as many as NM's as possible to see what I could solo. Even things that seemed impossible. My favorite was waiting for shouts for AF and soloing them for people :D

I'm going to spend all my time on one main class (not just to get to endgame, but to really experience all the story/missions in succession) and one income class. Once that's done I can mess around all I want.

In other MMO's, they have Raids. Where groups of players go and kick the snot out of stuff. Please understand, that the Final Fantasy universe is more like Soviet Russia, than other MMO's. Stuff will kick the snot out of you! Therefore, we refer to endgame "raids" as events, because they really are events. Look up AV for a better understanding of this concept. :)

Heh, reminded of a quotable a friend of mine once said: "Remember, at any time, somewhere in this game is a rabbit that will beat the ever loving **** out of you... and do it smiling."

I haven't seen a rabbit yet. I'm still skeered.

If I had my time again for FFXI I would have finished the Chains of Promethia quest line, and started about a month earlier on my ranger. I had a guy about the exact same level as me playing ranger on my server. He was a ****** that used basic bolts and had the DD of a white mage, and I could steal hate off a benediction. He gave us a BAD rep in the after sub-job leveling pool for a long time.

I also would have explored more with my BST. That was so much fun, going into zones only 75s treaded alone... to level. :)

I'm going to 'try' to do this too.

I got tired of THF at just before level 58 then became a NIN; bad mistake. Yes my THF was able to farm things, but not as well as a level 70 would have been. So most of my time I was farming gil for tools and gear, then I would party with the JP at night.

Then I never made it to endgame once my free time was gone.

This may sound odd but I want to take the game a little more seriously. When I played XI I played just to play. I loved to explore and see new places and things. The only time I ever got into doing missions and such was if I needed them to get someplace new. The only reason I joined a Dynamis LS was to get gear so I would have a better chance of survival when I wandered somewhere or tried to solo some NM. I'm not going to pull a 180 because where's the fun in that, but I would like to get more into missions and end gamey type stuff.

You honestly had such a bad time in XI you'd wish it never happened at all?

My first time around I was helpful and assisted the little guys with their quests, this time I am going to be in it for myself and make sure I get mine.

Just kidding.

I'm going to CRAFT time around... Man how I wish I would've leveled a craft from jump street in FFXI. Jeez... My FFXI account is still active. I started FFXI at 15. I'm 22 now. Does that mean I'll be 29 when I step back from FFXIV? I can't fathom... lol

I kind of fall into a similar boat as bsphil. If I had my time back, I can't say I wouldn't have played FFXI at all, but I would have had 1 main job, and that would have been it. By the time Abyssea came out, I had 8 level 75 jobs, and all of my "friends" were breathing down my throat to run them up to 80 quick for endgame, or what I'd like to call "get everyone else stuff" events. I got a couple of them to 80 before I just got sick of it all, put the game on the shelf and walked away. I played for something like 6 1/2 years, and the content was just getting stale for me, but so far in all my MMO experience, FFXI to this point is by far and large the most fun I've ever had in general.

All good things must come to an end, of course.

Edit: and my FFXI account is still active, until I get me some movement feet in FFXIV!
Edit 2: and this time around, I'm gonna craft from the start, and hopefully have never have to worry about gil

This time I will start the game when it comes out! I started XI after it had been out for years. All of my friends would reminisce about how fun/hard everything was before there were wiki's, or before helpful addition X, Y, or Z was put in. Not to mention in every party, while I'm just getting the hang of my class and first learning the area and its camps, everyone else has 5 level 75 jobs and this is just "same old, same old" for them.

It'll be fun to actually be there when everything is still new and mysterious, and everyone is still learning.
