Are you using Microsoft Security Essentials for your AV? Are your definitions up to date?

Nah, im using kaspersky but its definitions are up to date. Honestly i thought the essentials was included with 7 as i just installed it and havent looked through everything yet. Hmm, I might just have to switch anti viruses

Thanks very much for all the help so far guys, especially PerrinofSylph, I've done everything said but still no luck...6.4 kb/s :(

We're in the UK on a crap ISP. Mine fluctuates between 5ish kbs and 400kbs, be patient. As long as you have remotes, the Port Forwarding is working.

I've had the updater going for a few hours now, and it's only at 2% >.<

I've tried using utorrent (which worked great for when I was updating for the closed beta) but this time around it didn't seem to make much difference. By what elf magic are people finishing the update in three hours? Share your secrets!

I refuse to use utorrent. I used the regular SE updater. Worked fine for me, other than MSE flagging that file as a virus.

I used the SE updater, port range forwarded as directed. Worked fine.

If you want to take port forwarding out of the equation, hook your computer directly up to your modem and bypass the router. That will take down your machines attached to the router, but you could try it right before bed when nobody is online.

My secret for getting the DL done in under 3 hours was....let it run & not change a thing. So I don't know about fixes & loopholes...

Yea I've been hooked straight to the modem since I started it. It's still slow as a one legged Taru.. I guess I'll just have to wait it out no matter how long it takes.

Opening ports seems to be doing nothing for me :(

I have forward the ports from my router, modem and firewall yet no dice on the remote connections. Download speed is ranging from 10kbps to 40kbps while uploads is at 70kbps. I have 56 local connections and sitting at 31.9% with 18+ hours to go.

I am not worried with how much I upload, the ISP that I am with doesn't count uploads as downloads.

Done. I sure love the FIOS. Looking back I can't imagine how I used to work with a 300baud cartridge on a C64. (<_<);;;

What time does the server go live? Sept 1st like in a few hours or Sept 1st tomorrow around noon? If it's 1 or 2am pacific I may just stay up a while.

I'm jealous of all you FiOS users :( TimeWarner is the only option around here, and it's godawful. Though they did just roll out 50mb/s wideband - I just don't know if I can justify upping my cable bill nearly 50 bucks to get it.

19:00 (PDT) Tuesday, August 31st
2:00 (GMT) Wednesday, September 1st

Some of us can't do that. My UK ISP anyway, the router is the modem :(

been going for 30 minutes, 0 remote connections, 7 local connections, 20kb/s UPload and 0.00 - 900 byes DOWNload.

Yes I have forwarded/opened all ports. Yes I have seen used all the guides, yes I have factory defaulted my router and resetup everything.

I freaking hate P2P it has never been anything other than a nuisance to me, at best I get half of my normal download speed (80-120 kb/s) and usually its below 10 kb/s. not to mention the internet slows to an absolute crawl despite the download not even moving so I cant do it until everyone's asleep. I really really wish more things gave a direct download option...

So.... after I allowed the "virus", I finished the install, went back and did a full scan on my computer and deleted the "virus", tried to run the beta again and still got to the maintenance page, so I hope it didn't need that file to run the game and it only needed it to install the update.

This may very well be the dumbest question ever asked but...

The new patch is accessed directly through the client right? As in, I don't have to go searching the Internet for it once I've finished downloading the client itself? (I'm assuming the patch isn't already included in the download I'm doing now, but I wouldn't be surprised if I was wrong. This is the first time I've touched the client period.)

Just open the FFXIV Beta client and the patcher will do it's thing automatically.
