Just had a crazy thought about the job system. Creating some unique classes is going to be alot of fun. For example a VALKYRIE class seems fun. Now from reading other posts when you lvl a mage you can choose to put points twards a cerin element. Lets take a lancer and max out lightning add a few white mage spells like esuna and poisona and you have a really cool hybrid class.

Along the same thought process you could you could create a HELLKNIGHT... a maurader with maxed fire... or even fire spikes doing fire damage when attacked. I want to hear some cool ideas...

That's dangerous thinking right there jtully, best to stay inside the walls and not wonder what's out there = P

But yeah I see tons of cool possibilities, adding to your elemental theme, some of the DoW weaponskills do certain elemental damage as well so you can add the ones that fit your scheme.

With the mages, you could go a holy/evil path with the spell setup...dia/banish/cure vs. scourge/bio/sacrifice...someone mentioned there might be something about the 6 elements where 3 are light, 3 are dark, so that's option to add to that if it's ever figured out & confirmed...

Unfortunately the class system the way it is and the fact that different spells have different potency with different mobs (or in other words, having just lighting type abilities would be very limiting on the types of mobs you could fight) means that this sort of combination would be pretty useless most of the time.

Seems every melee class has some sort of enmity raising skill which might breed some neat tanking opportunities for all of them.

I'm not sure if Lancer has an elemental attack, but I do know that Gladiator has a fire and Marauder has a wind attack. Can't wait to try out some of this stuff.

Pugilist has an earth attack, Seismic Shock. I haven't found one for Lancer or Archer yet.

For a fun character I will make one that will exactly match the skillset of Id from Xenogears. In FFXI, the closest was MNK/BLM but that...didn't really work out as intended. LOL

Aside from having fun and enjoying the game in different ways
Lots of RP potential there as well

And if your setup is bad for a particular fight, that's when you find your buddy with the perfect setup for that fight...encouraging teamwork...

I believe that stats for the elements are for Elemental Resistances and not so much as an affinty for the element. But then again we don't know to much about it.

The info @ the aetheryte said that it increases resistance and attack power with that element...

Hmmm but you can only have a few elemental type abilities on at any one time especially at lower levels... like I ended up putting a lot of points in lightning because I really only had enough AP to equip one nuke and since I was using shock spikes, loading up on lightning and equipping that nuke made sense. Also since you can't change skills/weapons in combat and there will be elemental themed weapons... people may actually benefit from specialization. Yeah, you won't be extra strong against things that have a resist on that element... so I would think about doing combos fire/ice or whatever so you at least are never totally gimped.

I guess what I am saying is people don't have to be maxed for every single situation... and in fact, they can't be. So your choice is to create a character that is balanced with all elements or to create a character that is specialized which will generally perform better than a balanced elemental affinity and sometimes perform worse. Since balanced is sort of boring I'm going to be specializing... and yeah you can restat but we all know that is a pain so it would only be worthwhile if you know ahead of time that you are going to be fighting a boss that resists your main element and switch up accordingly.

I'm probably going to be a storm mage (lightning and water affinity).

something fire. it seemed the majority of big attacks in 11 had a hand in the fire element. I.E. bomb toss ruining your day.
