Server names up - where will you play?Follow

So the email sent out by SE today said that in order to keep your name from beta for final retail release you must role a character on the same server.

As a result, it looks safe to assume that the server names used in beta will be the final server names (or at least it will be apparent which one maps to which).

As a result, which server are you all going to play on?

Going strictly on coolness of character, everyone should choose Kefka imho...I mean, there's really no comparison. Speaking of which, a lot of the Zam folk from the US Midwest are looking at Kefka, they got a thread goin' http://ffxiv.zam.com/forum.html?game=268&mid=1282928697155831852&page=1

It's probably gonna get awfully crowded on Kefka really quickly, one of my other options is following the RP crowd on the server they settle down on.

I think it's cool that they're doing this, but with their new naming system for XIV, chances of running into dupe names are much, much smaller than in XI.
Unless of course you're going for something really unoriginal like Cloud Strife or whatever.

Undecided where I'll be atm. Waiting on a few others for this decision.

Wow Kefka looking like its gonna be jam packed, I would love a heavily populated server but Zam crowd and about 5 LSs planning on starting there (pretty big LSs) not to mention RocsLocks LS which has about 159 some applicants and god knows how many unaccounted for...Its safe to say Kefka is the hot spot right now, everyone wants in...I think i'll start there as well and maybe roll with a gathering/crafting class, grab hold of the market (or try to) and then move onto combat roles when the noob zones empty out a bit.

They haven't released the open beta server names yet. But we will find out today. You can't assume they will be the same as closed beta.

Because it's true. Although I think the odds are better than average that we will see the same names at launch. I just hope they have more servers than what phase 3 had, and I'm staying as far away as I can from Sephiroth and Shadowlord Smiley: smile

Is everyone statying away from Sephiroth simply because it's what all the new MMO players are going to run to the only name they recognize?

I often wonder if that's true anymore. FF7 was like 13 years ago, would any new MMO'ers even be old enough to remember that.
Assuming a new MMO'er is 16-20 years old now... they would have ben 3-7 years old in 1997. Probably weren't playing FFVII at the time

Ultimecia.
I liked FFVIII, I like the name, and I prefer servers that aren't quite so popular.

I was auto rolled on Sephiroth, back in Ye Olde Days before you could pick your own Beta server. There was nothing wrong with that server whatsoever. In fact, I found people to be more friendly and willing to party than I did during Beta 3 on Ultimecia. (excluding the ZAM folks I run around with).

Thinking Garland (I'm really shocked that so few people have mentionned that server. You young people are making me feel old for picking FF1's villain.), but may keep an eye out to see where the bulk of 'Zam people go and go there. It's always fun to actually meet and play with the people you exchange theorycrafting.

The majority of the people I knew playing the beta ended up on the Sephiroth server, and they met a lot of very friendly people on there, so it seems like we're going to Sephiroth. I was concerned about the same things that I know are keeping most of you away from the server, but I have a feeling it really won't be that bad!

Honestly, I wanted to choose a server with a medium population, as my linkshell and I were on the Valefor server in FFXI. It was nice and cosy. Sephiroth will definitely be a high population server!

They may have just changed their IPs for the servers when Beta 3 closed(I'm assuming third party sites use the ip to figure status, uptime). Also, I believe that site is fan made and not an official SE server status site.

On pretty much any game forum that isn't exclusively FF fans, the overwhelming majority seem to believe that VIII and IX are the worst - but these are the same people who think VII, XII, and XIII are the "BEST EVER".

I'm gonna blaspheme a bit here, but I personally don't hate any of the FF's. In fact, I liked X-2. /hide in a corner for the barrage of rate-downs.

While I can't really say I enjoyed IX's story, I also didn't hate X-2. The battle system was probably the best incarnation of the ATB the series had seen.

I also enjoyed X-2. I don't share some of you people's love for 8, which is the only FF I have ever given away to a friend (because I knew I'd never play it again) (Loved the characters and story, but hated the fighting). However, I haven't even purchased 7, which puts it at my least liked FF to date, I suppose. (Loved the fighting, hated most of the characters and didn't care for the story)

Can't really comment on 12 and 13, though, as I haven't played either enough to really give an informed opinion. They came out after FF11, explaining why I haven't given them many hours of playtime.

I'm likely going to Kefka. Besides the original FF game, FF6 was my first game that I owned (back when it was FF3 on the SNES). It is also one of the few games in the series that I can go back and play without getting tired or can pick up months later and remember exactly where I need to go. Sadly, I no longer own the original SNES cart (had the box, map, instruction booklet, etc in mint condition) since someone thought it was a good idea to break in and steal it and a bunch of other games that had value to them. Plus, Kefka is one of the only villains to actually succeed in destroying the world...that makes him pretty awesome in my books.

Note: it's been a while since I've played the rest of the games in the series so I may be incorrect in the "only villain to destroy the world". Though I am currently playing through FFV at the moment.

Golbez for the win. Best boss ever, and I still think FF2/4 is the best. I might even name a character after the ninja from that game... Edge? Now there's a ninja who could melee, throw AND nuke his way to victory. Although his throwing ability was.... broken :O

Similar main characters, even up to their name, both great stories. I think people view VII as bad simply because of the fanboys obsessed with Cloud & Sephiroth so it's easy to make fun of, but no doubt it was an awesome game. Take away the OMGCLOUD OMGSEPHIROTH RULZ stuff and I bet a lot of people think materia > gf, mp pool > draw system. Really that draw system was odd because it made you not want to use your magic to lose the stat buffs. It took me long enough to fill up with 100 of that spell I don't wanna do that crap again! However, one can admit VII was good without also saying VIII was bad...it's not a either/or.

Besides, VI makes that discussion meaningless = P

Speaking of which, how about SE creates a little filter where if anyone on the Kefka server shouts "WTF is Kefka?" they are picked up & dumped into the Sephiroth server and never heard from again?

Then I'll share in the damage. XD I don't care what people say about X-2, I thought it was awesome... It's one of my favorites.
I wouldn't say I hate any of them, either. I'm not a big fan of IX, and XII was lacking in the story department for me (But had lots to keep me occupied otherwise). XIII... Eh. Decent, but I took the $40 trade-in after I platinum'd it. ****, you can usually find it for less than that now.

Hopefully there will be a way to see what ping you have with each server so I can just pick the best one. Not too concerned about the name and I don't know anyone else that is gonna be playing so that is the only deciding factor for me.
