I made a happy face when I saw the Email in my inbox. then a sad face when I clicked the link and said it was postponed lol.

Least this gives me a chance to DL the client. I was never in any of the beta phases and I didnt recieve a key for open beta. I know key issuing was postponed as well, But im kinda scared I won't be able to play this time either! Argh!

I've been waiting on FFXIV long enough to be really good at this waiting game.

This is from the site where we are supposed to get our keys for the Open Beta test http://entry.ffxiv.com/na/index.html

FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test Postponed

FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test, which is scheduled to begin at 19:00 (PDT) on Aug. 31, 2010, will be postponed due to a confirmation of critical bugs. New schedule will be released at a later date.

Along with the postponement of FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test, the issuing of registration code for FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test will be postponed as well. With the download of client software's installer, it will be suspended at 19:00 (PDT) on Aug. 31, 2010.

Does this last sentence make any sense? "With the download of client software's installer, it will be suspended at 19:00 (PDT) on Aug. 31, 2010." What exactly is "it" referring to? You can still download the installer from the site, that that isn't what "it " is referring to...

Actually, you're correct! What it means is that at 19:00 (I assume GMT) Today (8/31/10) the installer will become unavailable. This is also the same time the Beta was supposed to go live.

I'm assuming that they're trying their best to get the bug fixed before 19:00 that way they can re-open the beta on time. To that end they're allowing the installer to continue to be downloaded until the original hard deadline at 19:00. If they don't have the issue fixed by then, then the installer becomes unavailable and this becomes a "TBA" issue.

Due to these upgrades, current Square Enix account users will need to register their country of residence the first time they log in to the Square Enix Account Management System after the maintenance on Aug. 31, 2010.

I knew this was too good to be true!

Anyway, I guess waiting few more days or few more weeks for the full retail version won't be so bad.

I just hope they don't postpone the release date.

I have a theory... They bought there servers from Blizzard. Knowing how good they are at not crashing. Then late last night they realized they didn't feed the hamster. Poor hamster he will be missed.

I am sure I will get rated down for this. Just too much doom and gloom going around today. Maybe just maybe it might make some other person who is just as annoyed as we are a little less annoyed. We are all in this together folks look forward to seeing you all online soon I hope.

It looks like it is an issue with the registration services. I was actually looking at re-activating my account, and saw it was now down for maintenance. I am assuming they are working out some kinks for the permanent character moves, along with other bits (since none of this could be tested with the beta to this point, it's gotta be ripe with new bugs they didn't even imagine).

And lets face it, would you rather have 100k screaming gamers upset they couldn't log in, or that their information was lost?

It's been down for "maintenance" for some time now and I'm pretty sure it's not maintenance, that's just how they are making it inaccessible. Plus that's not really a huge problem since many people have already registered for beta and just need to enter, they could fix it while the game is being tested by those who are already in the beta.

In other words, I doubt it's that.

I don't think there are many things that could actually delay the beta because...well, it's a beta, it's supposed to be buggy. The only thing I can think of is some serious problem like a memory leak somewhere that opens the system to security issues.

The registration service always goes down for a few days around the 1st of the month for the new billing period. I suppose it still could be a conflict with their new internal system, registering OB codes, and their old monthly billing system. Who knows.

EVERYTHING. >.< First try just the last patch. Second time, everything and I do mean everything.

My hard drive is a raid array and since I had to power off to get the computer to respond it freaks and showed three errors on consistency check. So, I had three possibly corrupt files somewhere in the FFXIV trees. The downloader and patcher operate using multiple threads, so three I/O's were in progress when I hit the button and may have corrupted the writes ... or not. So, I decided to be sure, and went with "nuke it from orbit".

Yeah, I probably overreacted, but it works now.

October 23 is basically one month after the start of the CE, and with the one free month, that would presumably be when the first month's fee would come out. So presumably a complaint about open beta not starting on time and therefore not going to start a subscription on time (or possibly at all). (Or just a "turning the tables" sort of message for cathartic purposes or something. ;)

Maybe, maybe not, but this is SE and it seemed like there were always POL updates all the time, so... yeah, probably. XD The "critical issues" could be only server-side so it's possible there'll be no difference on the client side. (Okay, yeah, so that's unlikely.)

And in today's news the headquarters of the SQUARE ENIX company in Japan was overrun by many angry, rabid gamers. It was said a sudden postpone of SQUARE ENIX's upcoming open beta for their newest title, FINAL FANTASY XIV, caused fans of the popular series to attack the building. Foaming at the mouth these crazed fans assaulted security and stormed the headquarters of SQUARE ENIX. Mass chaos ensued as traffic was brought to a standstill and the gamers filed in with lit torches. No casualties have been reported and we have word that the developers and producers have been safely airlifted by moogles from the scene. FINAL FANTASY XIV producer Hiromichi Tanaka was seen boarding a black chocobo within seconds before raving fans reached the rooftop. SQUARE ENIX has requested back-up from the Red Wings.

Outside in the streets cries of frustration and confusion rang out. We managed to get a word from one local Japanese woman. Falling to one knee she plead to the heavens shouting out. With the help of a translator her message was: "Why, oh why did it have to be FINAL FANTASY XIV? Why couldn't it have been World of Warcraft, why?"

Blizzard offers its condolences to SQUARE ENIX.

Okay I am a bit confused here.

I got my code on June 7th and registered on June 8th.
Now it says I am not registered on the beta login site but in account services it says I am registered.

I just got my new CPU and was ready to play the open beta but does this mean
that I am no longer able to play once everything is sorted out and underway?

Okay I am a bit confused here.

I got my code on June 7th and registered on June 8th.
Now it says I am not registered on the beta login site but in account services it says I am registered.

I just got my new CPU and was ready to play the open beta but does this mean
that I am no longer able to play once everything is sorted out and underway?

1.) They will be giving out new beta codes to everyone who was in closed beta. Once you receive your code (Undetermined date when they'll be released, so don't ask.) just apply it to your account as you did before. Codes will be sent via email to the address registered on your SE account according to the admins here.

2.) I believe they said somewhere that the beta site/forums were going to be restricted this time around to those who weren't there at the start. That or just closed period. Likely to prevent confusion since it seems this time around all you gotta do is "apply" to the beta site via application then copy and paste your key to your account. There's no selection system this time, just first come, first serve.
