It would seem to me that if she enjoys the game and wanted to play that, it would be a better setting for a "first date/interview" scenario. Because even if it goes really bad, being /blacklisted just seems less intense then being blown off IRL.

Dude...no guts no glory. And if things work out you won't be starting one of these "My GF doesn't like me playing an MMO" threads that seem so popular today. DO EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEETTTTTTTTTTTTTTTT...

Edit: Seriously, an (I'm asuming) attractive woman that is excited...EXCITED...about FFXIV. What is there to think about? That's like walking down the street and getting knocked out by a flying bag of free money.

^This!

Pal don't waste you chance, gamer girls are better than desert flowers and they are not on the raise!

Being the happy slave husband of a gamer wife I can totally tell you that she may be the best thing that have happened to you.

I can see it now ...

In the name of God,
I, CloudSephirothNarutoAkatsuki, take thee, KittyGirl87
to be my virtually wedded wife
to have and to emote hug/hold from this day forward,
for the lulz or the pwned,
for richer or post-account-hacked broke
in curse status and fully buffed,
to love and to cherish,
Til KO do we part
This is my solemn vow

As a Gamestop employee I really never will understand the amount of hate some people generate towards the company as a whole.
My store has the correct dates for all three versions of the game currently announced as well as any other MMO, and our location doesn't even sell PC titles on a regular basis.

Because aside from the occasional friendly, knowledgeable employee, Gamestop is infested with moronic, pushy A-holes. This has been my experience, anyway.

Gamestop's can be hit or miss as far as employee's, I myself worked at a gamestop for 2 years and the people I worked with were awesome with both their knowledge and enthusiasm for gaming. Unfortunately as was mentioned earlier in this thread the profit margin on new video games and systems is so miniscule that the trade in value's really aren't worth it unless they're are good deals going on. Also what I haven't seen here is that the employee's are also graded on their ability to sell pre-orders and subscriptions to game informer for the edge card. So while it may be irritating to you for them to ask if you want to pre-order or get a new edge card, fact of the matter is they really dont have a choice.

haha, Close! That's my district, but I'm also only a 3rd key! I wonder if we'll get guides for FFXIV... We can't reserve them =(

dunno why anyone would actually spend money on a guide when...

1. you have the internet at your hands, usually most things within guide (most times more) are posted on multiple sites within a day or so of game release lol

B. guides have a tendency to get things way off (Brady Guide Beastmaster massive fail anyone?)

yea, i understand the mentality of having to collect em all, but dont see spending $20+ on a book that, after a few updates, will become all but useless imho.

Whoever it was trying to trade in a game at Gamestop and only was offered $3 for the trade should stop waiting so long to trade in games, or should stop trying to trade in crappy games.

I can easily take certain games in there and get $25-$30 trade-in value for them when used in conjunction with my extra 10% trade-in credit Edge card AND any trade-in deals they have running at the time. Several months ago I took in like 6 games that my family no longer played, all of them were relatively new (within 3-4 months old) and since I brought in 6 games to trade I got an extra 50% trade-in value PLUS my extra 10% card... which made me get +60% more trade-in credit... on three of the games I 'almost' made $40 each off of them. (the 6 games and 50% deal is no longer going on... =( )

Also, I took in a Wii game (I don't even remember what it was... Red Steel 2, maybe?) almost two weeks after it was released and they offered my $7... I knew they were going to resell it for $29+ but at that point I didn't care... I just didn't like the game so $7 is more than $0 and having the game sit on the shelf.

I routinely goto Gamestop twice a month (at least) and I NEVER get hasseled by the employees... they remember me and NEVER try to sell me crap that I don't ask for... The big plus(es) for preordering there for me are the DLCs/preorder bonuses and the ability to pay a little bit here and there instead of laying down $50-$80 all at once.

Oh, and since I might seem like I am an employee that works there... I do not work at Gamestop... I work at the other 'evil' place that was mentioned earlier.

I heard (I am not 100% sure this is true) that if you use the same Gamestop employee over and over to do business with it makes them look good to management and they will go out of their way to do things for you (like keep their eyes open for a used game you are looking for), also they get 'credits' for their game buying.... no clue if that is true or not, but I help out as many as I can...

I would prefer to walk in someplace and get my game (new or used), and not have to wait for UPS/FedEX to deliver it to my door from Amazon or eBay... if I have to drive 30 miles to a Gamestop that has a used game I want I will do it before fighting over an auction online... plus when you have in-store credit at Gamestop it is hard to spend money someplace else.

I use to do eBay A LOT, but it just became more of a hassle than anything else for games. Every now and then I still look at eBay for various things, but usually the games sell for too high. BUT... if I had older games that I KNEW I could get a lot of money for I wouldn't think twice about throwing them on eBay before taking them to Gamestop.

Perfect example of Gamestop negotiation:
Me: *walks into Gamestop intending to trade in a game that is currently priced in their store for $50 new & $45 used* Hey, I'd like to trade in this game for store credit.
Employee: All right! Let me bring up our trade-in value... Aha! I'll give you 3 bucks in store credit and...*fishes around in pocket* a nickel.
Me: :|
Employee: Or I could give you a dollar in cash?
Me: ...yeah, **** you.

See, this is where the kids tend to get their panties in a wad (and for the record, 3 dollars is an extreme exaggeration).

First off, Gamestop is basically a pawn shop that specializes in video games. Maybe, instead of QQ'ing about it's policies, you stop, have a cola and a snack, go to your local governmental body, and ask them about your state's pawn laws.

It's not Gamestop that requires you to be 18+ to receive Cash, it's your state.

When Gamestop does do a *CASH* trade, 9 times out of 10, it's usually someone coming in with a duffel bag of scratched up PS2 games, looking for top dollar for all of his priceless games.

Next, Gamestop only makes money on USED games (Again, visit your local pawn shop to learn what retail vs buyback means). Ever wonder why companies offer preorder bonuses or package that nice little extra slip in the game? It's to get you to buy the game at 65.39 so they can take 99% of the profit, that's not Gamestop's doing.

I worked at Gamestop, and we had customers that were awesome, sometimes we'd even give our regulars benefits, such as coming in and doing a midnight release without being paid for it on games that didn't have midnight releases.

I do agree that gamestop does have some major ******** who know nothing about games at some locations. And I know Gamestop does have it's flaws (I HATED gutting new copies of games).

But to completely slander based on ignorance, is fail.

I remember I bought a coworker's PS2 and some game off him for like $20 (pretty sure he was in dire need of the money to pay off his dealer). I was really into the Nintendo primarily at the time, so I didn't pay attention to PS1&2 games and didn't know what the game was. I decided to go to Gamestop and trade it in... which ended up poorly at the time. First off, they said they'd only give me like $5 for the game in good condition. They also said that there were a few scratches on the disc, which brought the price they'd pay to a negative amount. Yep, it would have cost me $2 to sell the game to them haha. So I went home and played that game instead, since I was stuck with it.

Yeah, the game was Metal Gear Solid 2, which I had never heard of at the time. Now that I have MGS1-4 and love the series, I guess I owe playing that game to Gamestop Smiley: lol

I figured, haha. The manager at the mall in Leominster is a girl, and to be frank gamer girls are rare, so I figured there was a pretty decent chance you'd be close, being in MA and all. I'm not in town ATM coz I'm hanging out elsewhere doing the college thing, but Leominster is me hometown and all.

ANYWAYS....Kachi, eBay is great for used games and all, but I really hate waiting for packages....granted this is an extreme case, but I recently waited over a month for a used game I wanted to get here from an eBay seller in Japan. I'm more of a 'I want it now' type of guy....and if you want to argue morality on it, you're buying used whether from a dude on eBay or Gamestop, so it's basically the same outcome.

EDIT: Also noticed....Gunslinger above me is completely right. Up in MA when Gamestop receives a used game they don't have to wait for a few days to resell it. However, down here in Florida the state recently put some law into effect that requires pawn shops/trades/Gamestops/whatever to wait a few days before reselling any 'new' used items, probably to curb theft and make it easier for police to track stolen merchandise. So trade in policies do have to differ between areas because of various regional laws.

Of course, the actual trade in values on the other hand....that travesty is all on Gamestop corporate =P Same with employees who don't know their ****, I was told by a manager one time that they are required to value professionalism and whatnot over actual product knowledge in their hirings
