FFXIV beta crashes on startup (Resolved, TY)Follow

Is anyone else having an issue with the program where on startup it crashes with the normal Win7 message of 'This program has stopped working and Windows is trying to find a solution to your problem'? I've tried running the program as administrator, fiddling with the compatibility settings, and even tried unplugging my second monitor.

Here are my specs

Acer laptop
Win7 64-bit, Home Premium I think.
Intel Core i3 2.66 Ghz
4 GB of DDR3 RAM
ATI Mobility Radeon 5650 HD with I think 1 GB of Vram.
I'm also attempting to use an Xbox 360 controller and have a HDTV hooked up through HDMI, a USB mouse, and a 320 GB external HDD. Yea, this may not be relevant but if it turns out to be a freak accident type of problem, ya never know.

If anyone out there has similar issues we can pool our resources and try to find a solution. I'm going to try to update DX9 and my ATI drivers but I'm not sure if that'll help since I just played some other fairly recent games with no issues.

EDIT: So updating DX and ATI drivers didn't work. Anyone else have some suggestions?

So nothing comes up at all before it crashes?

Have you tried running the ffxiv config utility and dropping some settings?

Was it working prior to the end of Beta Phase 3?

Did you download it from a torrent that may be corrupt/have viruses or did you use the ffxiv installer?

right-click and try "Run as Administrator"

Have you tried it with the xbox 360 controller unplugged?

I'm running the game on the m11x Alienware laptop and if I don't switch over to the NVIDIA card the game will not run. I'm not sure how the Acer's graphics cards work, but maybe it's the same problem because your laptop's specs seem fine.

Anything in your event logs? You can open them by searching for event viewer in your start menu search thingymabob. Have a look through Application, see if you can see if there is an event posted at time of crash.

I was having the same problem on my Acer laptop. I noticed that I had a few non essential windows updates that hadn't been installed, one of which was Microsoft framework, once I installed them it worked fine. Although I am finding the speeds of the client to be terribly slow even with my ports forwarded =(.

I haven't been in beta before, so this is my first time trying the game.

I just checked the event viewer and the issue seems to be with my ATI drivers/card, which is weird coz I just updated too.

Well fingers crossed for you mate! Funnily enough the error message you've posted is the exact one I was getting so hopefully doing all the updates and inparticular the microsoft framework one will sort you out too.

0xc0000005 is an access violation code, which is generally when a process tries to access memory that doesn't belong to it. Not that I know what you could do about that, but I get the same crash when trying to launch the beta client on my secondary PC (that has a 7600GT that was at least able to run the benchmark without crashing, albeit with only images and text rendered, no 3D XD).

Checking my own laptop (with a woefully-underpowered HD 2600), I can start the client fine, so it doesn't seem to be an issue of power, particularly. I know my laptop says the video card has access to about 1.5GB of RAM in dxdiag, shot in the dark but what does dxdiag say for yours (Start > dxdiag > Display tab)? Can't think it would be less than the required amount, but I'm sure stranger things have happened.

I just managed to get it working, haha. I thought the version number for the atiumdag.dll looked weird because I just updated to version 10.1 earlier....or so I thought. Looking at the ATI dev site with a chart of what version DLL came with what patch, it appears my atiumdag.dll was from Catalyst drivers 10.8. Apparently when I installed the software earlier it neglected to actually update my drivers along with it!

So I redownloaded the driver package, it installed fine now. I can finally boot without crashing, but now the download has no connections, haha. At least it got working, though....and for anyone else who has this issue apparently FFXIV beta and 10.1 ATI drivers don't mix, so yea. Thanks everyone for the help and suggestions, yo!

EDIT: Accidentally said 10.8 instead of 10.1....it's late =P

Egondelania msvcrt.dll is a C++ file, you might try updating your C++ to at least version 9.0 but this is just based on the info you provided. hope this works for you.

and as for Downloading the patches, the easiest way is to go into the folder that has your patches, (in win7 its in your
(user logon name)/documents/my games/final fantasy XIV beta version/downloads/ffxiv-beta/d96437e6/metainfo)
then use the torrent files and open them with UTorrent (only utorrent not azerus/vuse) (the ones you want right now are the two that have 09.02.2000 and 09.02.2001) then when they are finished downloading put them in
user logon name)/documents/my games/final fantasy XIV beta version/downloads/ffxiv-beta/d96437e6/patch
folder and start the game back up. this will skip the game trying to download them, and UTorrent will download them MUCH faster.

If anyone could help me, it would be much appreciated.

I'm trying to run the beta client on my hp laptop I just purchased not even two weeks ago.

I went through and updated all the drivers as well as restarted and reinstalled the client several times.

Every time I try to run the shortcut on my desktop, it crashes only seconds later saying Final Fantasy XIV has stopped working and that windows 7 is trying to find out why, but it never does find out.

I've tried messing with the configuration settings, but it's always the same.

If it helps to know at all, I've had difficulties with other downloaded games from Steam, but I purchased Dragonage: Origins at a store and run it on my laptop with ease on the highest quality setting and resolution, so it's not that I do not think my computer cannot handle this game.

Here is the last event log information:

Necromancer, you have the same problem I did, update your video drivers.

Oni, your system more than meets the requirements, I'd say. I notice your display says /./DISPLAY1, does this mean you're running dual monitors? This game hates dual monitors for some reason, unplug/disable your secondary monitor if you have one, otherwise I'm not sure.

Eldae, it might be your GPU, you're using Intel integrated chipsets, they're not exactly known for quality. Although they must be getting better if you can run DA:O maxed out...Might be a driver issue, there's a guy in another thread with an Intel GPU having issues as well.

Everyone else....sorry, but I have no idea, haha.

I have this problem too, often when I start the client it says "checking version", then it hangs up and crashes after a minute or two.

However, I found a weird solution to this.

First, I have Firefox opened, then I click the "Final Fantasy XIV Beta Version".
Now it will do that "checking version" thing and probably crash after a while.

However, if I click on my Firefox window while the thing is running, and then minimize Firefox again, somehow the FFXIV client starts working and goes to the login screen.

I just keep clicking firefox and minimizing it if it doesn't work initially.

I have no idea how this happens, but it somehow works for me... dunno if it will work for others though.

When I try to run the beta program to start download the patches for the game I get the ever annoying "ffxivboot.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." error. Error Signature
"AppName: ffxivboot.exe
AppVer: 0.9.1.0
ModName: ffxivboot.exe

When I go into my event viewer, the description of the error is "Faulting application ffxivboot.exe, version 0.9.1.0, faulting module ffxivboot.exe, version 0.9.1.0, fault address 0x0002f670."

Any suggestions? I've done everything I can think of and everything I've seen suggested on just about every forum. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

JUST updated my ATI drivers to 10.8
Running a MacBook Pro with Windows 7 x32 (the one JUST before the processors supported x64)
FYI, also not a patchable issue. I tried copying over the installed files from my desktop to see if a patch fixed this issue. No such luck, same error.

I'm having this issue as well.... I have tried to start the game on 3 different computers, I downloaded it from fileplanet so I'm not sure if that had anything to do with it, I JUST got a new computer today to, and it still didn't work!!! Asus G73JH, I'm not gonna post the spec but I know for a fact that it isn't the Gray Screen of Death cause' I don't believe that the GSOD come with a message saying FFXIV Beta Launcher has stopped working, windows is seraching or a solution... anyway here is the error message info: Log Name: Application

Kyza, you gotta update your ATI drivers.

Raptor, assuming you're crashing in the middle of gameplay and not while trying to patch, try running in a window at your monitor's native resolution.Even after I updated drivers I kept crashing if I tried any less of a window size or full screen. This game is buggy and picky as ****

Nope, crashing while patching.

I'm running the game on the m11x Alienware laptop and if I don't switch over to the NVIDIA card the game will not run. I'm not sure how the Acer's graphics cards work, but maybe it's the same problem because your laptop's specs seem fine.

I have a feeling that this might solve my problem with the game crashing.
My laptop is running with the Intel i5 520M, and it causes the game not to run.
I also have a nVidia GeForce gt 325M graphics card with 1gb VRAM (would this be capable of running the game?)

Is there any way to be sure that the graphics card is being changed appropriately to suit the games demands? or is there a way i can make the laptop always use the Nvidia graphics card?

edit: FIXED IT!!!! turns out that I just had to go to the nvidia control panel feature, and set the .exe files to use the high power graphics card :D

Uhh....isn't the Intel i5 your processor, not the graphics card?Since you have an nVidia would that not be your default display adapter considering laptops generally don't come with two GPUs, or am I missing something here?

Experiencing the same issue with the setup installer crashing.
I'm running a Dell XPS M1710 and have attempted a fresh install with Dell's most recent drivers (2008). I also did an uninstall and tried it with Nvidia's latest drivers, this also failed.

I even went to the NBF Mobileforce forums, which tend to have some of the most up to date custom drivers for my graphics card and it failed as well.

I am really looking forward to playing this game if possible and of course getting some time into Open Beta. Any help would be appreciated.

EDIT: I also made sure that my DirectX was up to date.

Found out some info earlier today that might help someone else (didn't work for me). I was poking around my drivers for my vid card and noticed that I'm running a driver from 2009 - even though I updated to the latest set (10.8 for ATI). Turns out, ATI, being the retarded company they are, decided that anything past a certain (recent) point is a legacy driver, and they're not going to A) Include it in their patch file, or B) Archive the patch file, or C) Tell you that driver package you're installing isn't even for your installed video card.

THANKS ATI!

Yet another reason to NEVER get ATI (I was given my MacBook Pro, so I can't complain too much, but I didn't have a choice in the matter). I did a search, found a set that has my drivers (X1600), and installed it. Didn't update the drivers. Manually selected which driver I wanted to use. Tried 2 out of the 3-4. Still crashing.

For those who want to look into a similar path, www.guru3d.com keeps an up-to-date archive, and even Beta versions of drivers. I found mine from a simple Google search though, but meh. Either way, check your actual installed version timestamp, ATI might be ******** you over too.

(No, I'm totally not bitter, thanks for asking)

See if any of this information helps. Start from the bottom and work your way up if you like. One had wrong drivers and the other user I think had wrong folder permissions.

*Edit

Another thing that I would be exploring is other dated "archived" drivers. I have seen games that are picky and you have to downgrade the drivers instead of upgrade.

I @#%^ing found the problem for those of you having the game crashing at startup with the Fault module : msvcrt.dll

It's because of nvidia Optimus, FFXIV just started with the integrated Intel chip which couldn't lead anywhere good. And the supposed automatic switch to the real graphic card didn't occure, so crash.

The workaround I found is to open the nvidia Control Pannel (from a right click on desktop for example)
In 3D Settings -> Adjust image settings -> choose the middle option "Use the advanced 3D image settings"
then in 3D Settings -> Manage 3D settings -> Global Settings tab -> Choose "high-performance NVIDIA proc instead" of "Auto-select" for Preferred graphic processor

Then have another fresh start and cross your fingers, when the Square Enix logo popped up I just couldn't beleive it.

Anyway a massive amount of people are having this problem I don't know if it will solve everyone's but I beleive if your faulting module is msvcrt.dll in Event Viewer and you have nVidia card it must be it.

PS: if you have Optimus Test Tool from nVidia which shows you when your nvidia GPU turns on, you'll see that it just doesnt turn on when ffxiv is starting if you have auto-select enabled, and crashes, after making the update it immediatly turns on and the game runs smoothly

Hey I downloaded the 10.9 catalyst drivers and its still not working. I dont even know if it even upgraded becos it doesnt show the catalyst version instead it shows the catalyst control center version.
The version is 2010.0122.858.16002
Is this the latest? Both the benchmark and the beta client crash on start up before anything. My specs are
i7 Q720@1.6Ghz (2.7 at turbo)
Ati Radeon 5650 1GB DDR3
4GB RAM
I got DirectX 11 and when i let windows search for updates on the drivers it says they are up to date.

HALP!
