Right well seeing as open Beta is tonight, I figured I'd try and see how this whole 'xbox controller meets PC' thing works...and as of yet I still can't figure out why it won't work!? I'm testing it out on Just Cause 2, but my Windows 7 doesn't seem to pick it up...I plugged it in via the USB port and it automatically downloaded the right drivers etc, but it doesn't seem to work..is anyone experienced in the area? You'd really be helping this n00b out :)

So apparently the microsoft play and charge kit won't work on a pc..it only charges..never mind, back to mouse and keyboard i guess!

I do because I have the wireless receiver and since I used xbox controller to play xi it only seemed natural to use it again for ffxiv.

Check the configuration folder in your game files. About all I can offer ya.

I was using a cheapo Madcatz version for the beta and it worked just fine. Plug n play, no issues, also Win7...Could it be that game doesn't want to recognize it?

Its not going to work if you are using a wireless controller with charge and play kit.

It will work if it is a wired controller.

Am I right that the charge and play kit won't work? I need to either buy a wired controller or a wireless part for the pc?

Oh ok we posted at the same time, thank you :)

Yeah, it could be the game. Some times games are finicky when it comes to controllers. I would open up "Final Fantasy Beta Version Config" (if you have it d/l'ed already as many do) and test the controller there since we know FFXIV supports the xbox controller. (there is a gamepad section where you can map the buttons and test the controller - just like in ffxi)

Yup! You will either have to buy an (Official, I tried a 3rd party, didn't work) wired controller, or get the wireless adapter for PC. I went with a wired, but personally kinda wished I went with wireless for personal reasons. Not sure which option is cheaper TBH.

You might have to config your Xbox360 controller in your system settings (maybe). You do however need to tell the game to use the controller as an input. It's usually found under the game settings. In FFXIV you need to configure it outside of game using the beta config.exe founs in your start menu.

I'm an avid gamepad supporter for FFXIV as you can navigate everything sans window placement and UI resizing with it. (that was the case of alpha1-beta3)

SE has the option to map your emote list to a single button press, but now you can emote with the /em command. So I myself prefer to map something more useful to the available buttons besides an emote list.

Yeah just get the wired version for pc or buy the wireless receiver if you can find one.

The wireless receiver is usb plug it in and it installs its drivers then you just turn on your controller and sync it to the receiver like you would to the xbox system and then go to ffxiv config folder and start mapping buttons. Enjoy.

You can buy the usb wireless adapter on amazon, but Microsoft officially stopped selling them cause they were power hogs and cost just as much as a wired controller.

Yes, you need either the PC USB receiver or a wired controller.

I use this program to map all the buttons to the keyboard keys.

http://xpadder.com/

I'm wondering suddenly if this is a third party software that is restricted under the terms of use. Anyone know?

PROTIP: You can map the controller using the FFXIV beta config.
