Hi all... I downloaded the ffxiv installer from the ffxiv website before it was taken down and I'm trying to run it on my system. As soon as it starts up I get an error saying the program has to close.

I've uninstalled, reinstalled the app, uninstalled and reinstalled DirectX, downloaded the lastest video drivers and reinstalled them no success. I'm running on Windows XP SP3 with an Nvidia GeForce 7950GT 512MB video card which I thought should run the game at least "ok".

What is strange is that I have another machine which is vastly less powerful with an ATI Radeon HD 3600 and it works.

Also, when I run the benchmark utility, all I get is sound with no video. Arggh...

Has anyone else had problems with the NVidia 7950GT?

Edit: I meant 7950GT not 9750GT.

Hmmm...I'm not great with cards so I'm not sure if that card is supported.

You might want to try updating windows and your motherboard - For a long time on the beta test site people were having this issue and that worked for some of them.

Hope you can get it to work!

I downloaded it the other day as well and it won't even install. It gets to the screen where its "Downloading version update files. Please wait." but nothing happens and then it eventually times out. Has this happened to anyone else?

I get this on my other machine where it does run. My nvidia 7950 machine just instantly gets the error after a black box opens.

Using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit. I restarted the installer and its working now. Its currently at 7.5% in the file download now. And you don't have to run it as the administrator account, just an account that is in the Administrator group. Most users should have their accounts in the administrators group by default.

You must be thinking of Windows 7 or Vista, you don't have to run as Admin in XP.

I would recommend keeping your current FFXIV directory(so you don't have to re-download all files), then re-downloading the installer, and choosing a different directory to install to.

Just to be sure, disable any anti virus/spyware software
