What you should be hoping is they don't run out of keys before you get home, lol

my friends went to sleep so they can wake up at 10 EST and get keys, and left me the fun task of staying up for another 5 hours (after staying up all night waiting for updates on the delay) to make sure we all get in the beta.

Are keys limited? They're opening the beta at 3am for people in the UK, I can't stay up until then :(

I heard from somewhere that SE wants a LOT of people to test in OB.

I highly doubt they're going to run out of keys anytime soon.

That leads me to believe that there is the potential for them to be limited. Not necessarily ultimately, but perhaps on a day-by-day basis?

Anyway, assuming the servers are actually up and capable of holding the masses tonight I plan on playing for a few hours, even though I have a 7-hour drive tomorrow. :\

Closed beta participants do get a free pass into open beta, right? I don't wanna try logging in at 10 only to discover they basically erased me from the beta list.

As far as we know right now, the answer is no.

Well, so far that is what it looks like. But knowing SE maybe you need to find a secret password hidden in the flash encoding on the official site or by decoding a cyptographic message hidden in currently known dat files.

In other words... yep. It sucks.

That said I just checked my login and it says that I'm "registered" for the open beta test...

Under "confirm account services" it says "Aug. 20, 2010 FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Test Registered"
Under "List of all Registered Services" it says "Account Basic Service Dec. 20, 2009" and no beta test...

I've tried to be positive but at this moment I freaking hate SE.

I can't be 100%, but I'm almost sure when the time comes to get the keys, all you would have to do is fill in some type of form with your email, and the key is sent almost instantly.

It's just a way for S-E to control how many people get into OB.

Some of that along with how they're stressing everyone needs to register their correct nation for their account. A lot of it's about setting up for the real thing later this month it seems. As usual though, more details would be really nice at this point...

Why is a question only SE can answer, but if you try to login to the beta now it gives a message that says "There are no valid service accounts. A valid service account is required to use this service." So that also has people wondering if it's only saying that because beta isn't open yet or if it means we need a new key.

Seems like open beta is a whole new service, however no one knows for sure...

I'm getting the same thing too, but it seems to me that we have to Add a Service Account under FFXIV in order to get in open beta.

Yeah, but the only problem there is that we need a registration key to active a new service account. And apparently people who applied for "beta / open beta" will be getting those keys...but does that mean past "closed" beta testers will receive "new" keys, as well? I guess we'll find out, but as the OP says, we have less than 5 hours; when is SE going to start handing out these keys (so we can find out whether we just got royally screwed or not)?

The customization isnt as customizable as you might want it to be. You can choose mouth widt, ear size, height, hair highlight, hair type, eye color, facial features, and voice tone.

I like it this way rather than taking forever trying to figure out the right nose bridge length and lip bustiness. Phew too much work for me ;p

nah for this stage it i dont think they really care what you have. now is mainly a server stress test type thing on their side that they are concerned about.

p.s. if you find a money exploit please report it. chances are if you found it that a few others probably did and we dont need people ruining the economy on day 1 lol

All this anticipation, I'm kind of expecting S-E to wait until 10 minutes before everything goes live to say "oh sorry, we delayed it further" and half of the forums to go into Uber Rage Mode.

Since the Beta doesn't technically start until about 10pm EDT, I'll likely just tinker with the character creator for a bit since I have to work in the morning. Course, I say this now and if I do get a key and make a character, I'll end up playing all night until it's time to go to work.

If you need a new key, they're not going to "hand" it to you at all. You'll go to http://entry.ffxiv.com/ when Open Beta starts like the email says to do, and you'll follow the directions.

How about testing their game for them? Generating excitement for their game while they sit back and make "The Making Of"s every week or so? :P Haven't we basically been doing what they wanted us to do?

Yeah, that ENTIRE week (was it even a week?) of being able to play in the same region was definitely a perfectly fair amount of time to be in a beta. You're completely right: no ZAM closed beta key winner here deserves any more time since we got to spend SOOO much time in Eorzea already. Yes, that's 100% fair. Sorry for keeping you waiting, I'll move aside so that you can get your week's worth of playtime -- wait, what's that? You get MORE than a week's worth of playtime? Oh...and you get to pick from 2 other regions? Really? Wow. OK. Whatever, man, that's totally fair. After all, we had our turn. An entire week's worth.

I think you'd be a bit better off complaining if you actually paid to be a beta tester or something.

Being a beta tester does not make you entitled to anything nor does it give you any benefits compared to the people who didn't get to beta test.

I'm a beta tester myself and I don't feel I have any right to complain about what's fair or not when it comes to this open beta. If they're not giving beta testers codes by default, then they're making the playing field even and giving everyone an equal chance.

Right. It just annoys me that someone would have the nerve to say "you had your turn" when our turn was drastically shorter than everyone else's. Placing us in that category just seems unfair, whether it's free or paid-for.

They were going by 30 day trial basis's If you'd ever looked mid-beta, it stated that your status would expire after 30 days. They probably just reset everything to avoid confusion when the free beta overlapped with the official release.

The new beta codes are probably only 22-day codes rather than 30. Presumabley for Alpha/Beta testers they will recognize our history and we'll be able to post on the forums as normal.

With the giveaway keys it's especially frustrating that they were postponed for so long we got less than a week. Then told to make sure we register the keys so we'd be all set for open beta. Then we find out that entire process may have been meaningless and we have to start fresh. It's not so much thinking we deserve it more than everyone else, but venting our frustrations because we were told otherwise until recently. I'm cool with having to do this process, but wish they hadn't told us all that other crap and then changed it...
