So i plan on hooking my computer up to my 55in Samsung LED TV. I was worried about running it on high settings due to my benchmark score. Then i realized that my couch is 11 feet away from my TV, and from what ive read at 11 feet with a 55in. tv i wont be able to tell the difference between 1080 and 720. Please confirm

You need a pretty beastly GPU to run on a 55inch. I would go for a 2gb or a couple 1gb in sli/xfire.

You're going to have trouble reading text as well.

These are just predictions however.

Correct, running on 720 will look just fine.

Thats what I'm doing on my tv and it looks great.

1080p has 2.25x as many pixels as 720p. I don't know how you wouldn't be able to see a difference, 11' isn't THAT far for a 55" TV.

What? 1080p is 1080p no matter the size of the TV. The output is just at 1920x1080, the screen size has absolutely zero to do with how much power the GPU requires.

^ Tis true. The TV does the upsizing part to display what it received from the computer.

Actually, it does'nt matter what gpu you have. If your card supports 1080p, a monitor is a monitor....so..yeah.

As far as reading text, it will be hard to read text from 11' feet away on any resolution. I have my pc hooked to a 55" LED but I sit dangerously close anyway :P

The reason why playing on a 55" tv is the same as playing on a 24" monitor is the fact that both have the same amount of pixels. TVs have larger pixels than monitors because monitors are meant to be seen up close while tvs are meant to be seen from a distance. The amount of information being transfered between the computer and tv/monitor is the same as long as the resolutions are the same and most people these days buy 1080p for both monitors and tvs so that is usually the case.

Wonder if there will be an option to increase font size in FFXIV. That will be my only concern really playing it on my TV

Most people cant tell the difference between image quality between 720 and 1080. I can't, even when standing very close to the screen. The best way to figure this out is to test for yourself. As far as regular PC computing is concerned if you are running at 1080 your desktop will have more space compared to 720 resolution.

If I ever decide to play on PC I'll be running on low because I don't see the big deal about 1080.

I used to play FFXI on the higher resolution on my 32" TV on the couch, couch was fairly close to the TV... it was IMPOSSIBLE to read the text.

I run mine on a 53" Sharp LCD and sit bout 12' away and can read text on FFXI and WoW just fine. Watching FFXIV vids on youtube with some of them at 720 I still can read the text. I do believe you can adjust your font size also so if your having trouble seeing it you might try that. I believe my font size on WoW is 14 the default setting. I don't think you will have much trouble seeing anything.
