I didn't see this anywhere, so I figured I'd open a new thread. Sorry if I missed it.
The Problem: After downloading from fileplanet, when I click on the downloader to start the client, it crashes. The screen doesn't even come up as the downloader, it comes up black. Then it says "FINAL FANTASY XIV Beta Version has stopped working". I tried running as administrator. I tried restarting. Please help me!

The computer specs:
Operating System: Windows Vista Home Premium, Service Pack 2
Video Driver: NVIDIA GeForce 6150SE nForce 430
Processor: 9550 Quad-Core Processor 2.2 GHz
Memory (RAM): 6.00 GB
System type: 64-bit Operations System

It may be that you dont have directx 9.0c which ffxiv runs on.

Try searching for directX SDK on microsofts site and download and install it. it'll install every version of directx. Try it after that.

Also tried updating DirectX. Forgot about that. I've basically been at it all day...

Have you tried opening the FFXIV config and playing around with those options or does that crash too?

Did you mean the "FFXIV Setup"? All that does is install and uninstall the beta launcher...

Hmm. It sounds like the DirectX error to be honest, go here for the DirectX runtime. DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer. If you get a Cryptographic Service error when it's installing, then use this one here DirectX End-User Runtimes (June 2010).

Now if the above doesn't update anything and you have already updated stuff, have you tried Running it as Administrator? Seems like the DX error to me from what you are describing, other than that it should work. Or even disable UAC altogether, reboot and retry. UAC is good for those new to computers but I've had it off since Vista and never had any kind of problems with viruses/malware/trojans/etc.

No there should be a FFXIV config file that was also installed with the installer/launcher. It allows you to change graphic settings and if you want it windowed/fullscreen.

Never going to run with that onboard video.

Yea, I know I'm nowhere near a computer genius... but that seems like it's your main problem. At the very least try maybe updating some drivers?

Hes just trying to run the updater at this point and its not working for him. The board may be a problem for the game itself, but theres always a slight possibility that it could run with everything low. Even if its a small chance.

Except there's not.

The rest of the system is decent but he's not going to run it with an onboard video card and its not worth trying to make it work unless you've got a new card on the way.

Yeah. It's for my buddy's computer that I sold to him. I told him that his video card was his bottle-neck. That computer can run starcraft II, and it's specs are higher than FFXIV's. He plans on upgrading, but I agree there is a chance to run it on low graphics. First things first though...the black screen and error message of death...

It's quite possible that it's just due to the graphics card. I don't think it's really worth working on anything else before replacing that. That card is about 4 years worth of models too low to run the game, and that's even before taking into account that it's an integrated card.
