Or just not bothered with keys for those people. The people who already had beta access were known, they were flagged or had the service added to their account. It's a ridiculously simple database query to just continue all those people through into open beta with no need for additional shenanigans on their part or ours.

After that all they'd have to do is say "If you were in alpha or beta before, you're set to go on the 31st (became the 1st), if not you can apply for an open beta key on this day, a week beforehand and be ready to go on the 31st (1st)"

Would have been very very simple

Agreed.

I'm a little scared because I haven't received any emails from Square Enix about getting a new key. The last email I received was the one confirming that I registered the Final Fantasy XIV Beta Test service to my account. I've checked my spam and everything but I didn't see anything that would stop me from getting emails.

I know that it's a free beta test and everything but it's still a little frustrating and confusing. 20 days...

I was registered for phase 3. I just tried to log on with the beta launcher, and it gave me the "no accounts registered" error.

Seems like we need keys.

Yep.

I'm trying to get into the SE beta test site to see what "juicy info" SE has just released in hopes that it'll elaborate on when the CBers will get their keys, but the **** "Sign In" button doesn't want to load.

Updated seemed more appropriate than an edit.

Just got my key email. As I applied to the Open Beta before I saw this, I couldn't say from where the email came. Can anyone who was in before OB but didn't apply confirm they got an email?

I got in at Beta Phase 1 and haven't received an email.

Edit: I just applied manually for my code and got an email within seconds.

Ironically once they get things stabilized and fires put out those of us that were in beta will be quite peeved to find out that we all will be the last to get in.

At this point I wont put it past SE. I am still hoping against hope that seeing the account history that still shows beta access registered means we can just log on.

I checked the beta application page and, I might be slow on this, but I didn't see that message there. I'm assuming it still holds true though. I got a key via Fileplanet and haven't gotten an email, but I also can't even log into the Square Enix account management page right now, so I'm not doubting there's some trouble.

Guess this is a great time to use that WoW subscription I've been neglecting.

It would seem they removed the message about previous testers getting an email. It has been replaced only with:

Yup, at first I was spamming the pages and then I read about closed beta testers getting an email "soon", so I stop to let everyone who wasn't a closed beta tester get their key.

Now, I learn I was taken for a ride and now I can't get in at all.

I mean, is this for real?

Hard to say but...if they wanted to inform previous testers and those who registered codes as requested by SE's deadline. By removing the message from the application site now... well that doesn't do well for that. Really won't know for sure until your finally able to log into the management system. Or get through the system via the application page.

So the timeline of events to date:

- Beta 3 testers are issued keys after several delays.
- Testers are told that for some arbitrary reason, their keys will no longer be valid in the open beta.
- Testers are told that they will be automatically issued new keys for open beta.
- Testers are told that, whoops, they will not actually be issued new keys and must sign up again with everyone else.
- After the site has launched and crashed, testers are told that, hey, actually they will be issued new keys! So you really didn't need to crash our site.
- The previous statement is withdrawn. Yes, testers do, after all, have to sign up for new keys. Please resume crashing our site.

Did I miss anything?

Why didn't SE say that beta testers were all ready in the OB? That would of made getting a key a little easier maybe and a lot less confusion. But hay it's SE they love to confuse their costumers. I did get an E-mail from SE saying my Beta Key was at the end of the rainbow.... **** i should of listened to them. I thought they were joking.......

The biggest kick is that I hopped onto my account checked my service status for the beta and saw it was canceled August 31.

Why do I have the feeling that they intended to have the previous beta people in for the open beta, but someone accidentally cancelled all the accounts, and that was the cause of the delay yesterday. They couldn't recover, so they sent all SE accounts an e-mail to register, but they forgot to update their prepackaged opening day application page.

See SE, I'm trying to cover your back with a reasonable story. I know that you probably know if you're coming or going by now >.>

Problem with this is that beta access would still be a known value. Even if someone borked the user accounts, by canceling their access, their service history still shows it there (as yours does, and as I assume mine would if I could log in). It'd be a slightly more complex database command to reinstate beta access for those people than it would be to just continue them from closed to open beta in the first place

I'm so frigging confused. I was in closed beta and never got an email. I saw someone say there was a resend email button but where is it? Is it on the open application process or in the square enix account management site? I'm at the place to input my key but I dont have it yet lol. And people are saying that applications are suspended. So does that mean as a closed beta participant I cant get to the resend button to get the key?

I enjoyed playing the closed beta and I think I'd enjoy the overall experience of FFXIV once it's all nice and polished, but if this is any indication that SE will continue to conduct business in the exact same ****-poor manner they did with FFFXI then I don't think I'll be buying a copy when Live rolls around. I dealt with five years of bad customer service when I played FFXI and I don't intend to repeat it with FFXIV even if it's a good game.

FFXIV was already on loose ground for me because of what I saw in closed beta...this whole thing, misleading us and then closing the application process is severely distressing. I had planned to give SE one last try but if I can't get into the beta tonight because of this I wont even bother...SE will be dead to me. And THAT I know.

Honestly, this whole experience literally could not have been worse.
