I thought it was going to be an open world but in reality...it's just a bunch of boxes with an opening so you can get to the other box.
"sigh"

Could anyone elaborate on this? The screenshots make the world look pretty expansive.

I think if you went exploring you wouldn't feel the same way. The barriers you see are usually water or cliffs or impassible mountains.

There's actually a lot of layers to various areas as well so there's more there than meets the eye.

Lol...yes its exactly like FFXIII, everyone is running in a straight line along the same stretch of land...good luck ever leveling up with all the competition..... *end*...*gasp*...*sarcasm*...the world is huge and awesome - Ul'Dah and outside (what i've experienced, haven't seen Grandia yet) is AMAZING, much better than LL imo.

Not worse? its a million times better than WoW...just play it when you can and you'll see for yourself, TC is wrong and I think almost all of this board will agree with me.

Uh are you sure you're playing FFXIV? Or are you still stuck in the city where there are buildings left and right.. like a city is supposed to be... which would actually be considered a maze of sorts... lol. Some people are never happy.

I'm not saying it's horrible but yet that's exactly how it is. To be fair though FFXI was the exact same way. Although it's an unfair comparison cause i think every other game is like that too...

Doesn't sound so bad, then. I was happy with the size of the zones in WoW, so if it doesn't feel more constricted than that (outside of the cities, obviously) I won't complain.

Nothing maze-like about this game I have no clue what you're talking about.

I don't mind it...people here have been given the ability to deny opinions without having to voice it.

I still get that closed in feeling in this game. It just feels narrow compared to FFXI.

I know what the OP is saying. Probably talking about the forest map, which once you start exploring, you realize is extremely grid-like, made of small square rooms connected by paths. It's very matrixed in its layout, which was a strange choice for an organic area.

But my little friend rest assured not all zones are this way. Before /logout last night I decided to walk as far out as i can before getting killed. The next zone is like M.Mountains in FFXI, and is more like the large open areas you'd see there.

Also although the forest feels very constrictive, its actually a staggeringly big zone so at least it's in reality still a huge zone, with many places to find solitude while exping. I found following the road all along the zone, i was always faced with the same blue level monsters. So it seems that straying from the road is how you find harder prey, rather than straying from town. There's actually many monsters to go around, more than I thought when i was thinking it was set up like FFXI.

Rating you back up because your opinion is accurate on at least the forest zone outside WindurstXIV

That actually makes me feel a bit better about the world. I just expected something more after seeing Limsa Lominsa's borders..

I would argue that it's 47, but I've been watching too much Star Trek: TNG. They sneak the number 47 into nearly every episode. One of their producers even said that 47 is 42, corrected for inflation.
