Does it all seem overly complicated or am I just doing it wrong? The controls, the menu, the interaction, everything just seems so awkward. I hate how the curser lags slightly when the mouse is used too. I just died and it took me a minute to figure out how to revive myself. I had my stats lowered, but nothing to tell me when this would wear off. Locating the leves seems like a massive pain too. An icon to identify the locations of new ones would be nice. And then when you do find a place to accept them; menu upon menu of different options. Having to go in to loads of different menu's to select different options to be told that none are available just seems like a really poor design.

It seems stupid to not be able to drag and drop abilities to the action bars.

I'm not trying to complain or ***** about the game, I just don't know if I'm doing something wrong. Playing just seems to be frustrating me. Maybe I just need to get used to it.

I agree with most of your gripes. Although, locating levequests has been easy for me--it highlights where to go on the map.

Edit: Holy sh*t the poison is ridiculous. I just lost 250 hp and died just from poison. :(
Edit2: for the record, it was a chiglet.

The UI as it stands now is sluggish and absolutely atrocious, definately made for use with a controller.

That would be a bad choice to make something "just for" I know 11 also had the controller advantage, but come on getting the UI polished out isn't an impossible task.
I know it's beta but with this mouse lag it seems like it's not even ready for alpha :o

The mouse lag is caused by Square only implementing a software mouse. The only real way to fix it (Aside from implementing a hardware mouse) is to lower settings. All I turned off was ambient occlusion and my mouse lag went away.

Compared to what we had in previous beta's and alpha's? It's downright amazing and faster than the speed of light.

The UI seems fine to me, though I am using a gamepad. I'm just trying to figure out what I'm supposed to do. I'm past the intro stuff and now in the guild and not sure where to go or what to do. I made a linkshell and am now just walking around talking to NPCs. What are those leve things? Am I supposed to start with those? Also, how do you chat? In FFXI it was easy to figure out, just start typing, lol. That doesn't seem to work in this game. Thanks

Thanks for the input everyone. Have a question about the leves... So you have to go in to the town and find them, and then venture to the camp that begins it? Is that always the way it works? Also, I appear to have filled my allotment. It says 8/8 even though two of them failed due to being logged out. When can I take on more?

this is seriously annoying me. I just bought a conjurer's arm and tried out that class for a bit. I now want to change back to thaumaturge and it wont let me. It constantly says the action can't be preformed. Of course it doesn't give me a reason. That would be too logical :/

The UI is killing me. I know people hated the menu's in UI, but I loved the system there, the keyboard controls were very fluid for me... everything done with the right hand, left handed spells, no mouse. loved it.

The keyboard controls seem like a mash up of western/asian preferences and it's really annoying. I tried to reasign my camera controls to the arrow keys but it won;t let me. Am I missing something? Has anyone else been able to reasign them to arrow keys? the camera being k,i,j,l is not easy to get to at all.

I tried to get intot he beta site to search but I can;t ><

from reading stuff earlier there is a cooldown of how often you can switch your classes not sure on the time or anything though at this current moment. And as of right now levee's have a 48 hour turn in time to pick up new ones. Also from what i hear the ui and stuff is actually server side to help stop 3rd party programs from running. Iunno what SE is doing but they are def doing it wrong. :( which saddens me greatly.

I managed to change my class evenutally. I must have had my weapon out, so thanks for the tip. I thought it only mattered if I was in combat.

I wandered in to the Gladiators guild and got unwillingly pulled in to an event and ended up having to fight one of them in an arena on a 5 min timer. I got his health down to 0 but he didn't die and just kept attacking me. When the timer finally reached 0, I got told that I lost. That was really annoying.

The UI has been an issue since alpha started - I'm really surprised they haven't made a greater effort to fix it. Testers were pointing out on a daily basis how bad the menu lag (dunno if that's still there - can't get a key yet), the mouse lag, and the ui lag in general was. Not to mention how convoluted the menus are. I understand that SE wants to protect their game and not have to deal with addons such as the windower, but keeping all that stuff server side is HORRIBLE. Especially with all the congestion that's going to happen on server side until they get everything sorted out in terms of server loads, activity stress, etc.

Open the main menu (press - on the numpad)
Select Journal
Look a your main Quest (different for every starting town)
Read, follow the hints. It's pretty well explained.

Visit the first camp and use your free guildleve

Go back to town continue the main quest line until it's finished. You will get a lot of money and get to know the area. I can not stress enough how important it is to finish this quests.

The quest continues once you reach Rank 10.

I'm having trouble changing my keyboard settings. The camera movement is a bit off... Any idea?

I found where to change it but it won't let me do so.

^Rate up, they're not always the most exciting thing to do, but it's a good tutorial to make use of to learn the basics & get that starter gil. A lot of the simple questions repeatedly flooding the forums could be avoided by doing that initial quest...

So the UI is a lot faster than CB3? I found it to be really slow sometimes especially setting the actions to the action bar. I was really hoping that the UI would work better in OB. So how does it compare? I can't get a code for open beta because all I get is "Applications for the FINAL FANTASY XIV Open Beta Test have been temporarily suspended."

CB3 was a huge improvement on CB2, so I would not be worried about how the controls are now. They have become more and more impressive as each wave comes through. I am sure it will be near perfect by release.
