FYI I have figured out what "Buffer" is. It is exactly the same thing as FFXI's offscreen rendering. If you set it to "Resolution" it renders game graphics at same resolution as the window. If you set it to "double" it's the same as old "supersampling" trick in FFXI. If it's set to less than the window size then the game graphics will be rendered at a lower resolution than the window - just like FFXI.
The only difference is that in FFXIV it is based on the game window size instead of being independantly set.
So in addition to real MSAA support you can also do FFXI's supersampling trick on top of that - on some hypothetical future computer that is.
